Abstract
High performance / high temperature polymers such as polyimides, polyesters,
polyetherketones and polyethersulfones represent some important commercial polymers.
These classes of polymers have excellent thermal, electrical and mechanical properties and
are currently applied in many areas such as aerospace, microelectronics, automotive and gas
separation industries as high-temperature coatings, structural adhesives, matrix resins,
interlayer dielectrics, wire insulation, semi permeable membranes etc. This has resulted into
wide interest in fundamental and applied research on high performance/ high temperature
polymers. In recent years, much of the focus in the area of high performance/high
temperature polymers is on tailoring polymer structure to give a specific set of properties.
The present seminar will highlight our research efforts aimed at synthesizing a series
of difunctional monomers such as diamines, bisphenols, diacids, diisocyanates etc. containing
special structural features and utilization of these monomers for the synthesis of processable
high performance / high temperature polymers such as polyimides, polyamides,
polyamideimides, polyesters, polyetherketones, polyethersulfones, etc.
