Year 7 French ELA A SpringTerm Learning Objective: to consolidate your understanding of the present tense; to revise sports and leisure, weather and use of connectives. Learning Outcome: a piece of work that will be assessed against Year 7 Milestones for speaking and activities to develop comprehension of new language and grammatical structures. Guidelines for completion We have divided this ELA into five sections, one for each week. You need to decide how to divide up your time. Do not feel that you can only do Week 1’s work in week 1; you can start Week 2’s work in week 1 for example. Preparation time and guidance will be given in lesson time for the more difficult and lengthier tasks. To help you be an effective self-manager we suggest you take the time to read through the ELA before you attempt any of it to work out what is required of you each week so you can plan your time effectively. Week 1 Be independent – make sure your notes in your files on the present tense of regular –er verbs are clear. If they are not make sure you copy the following down neatly on to file paper: Most verbs have an infinitive which ends in –er Example: adorer (to adore), collectionner (to collect), voyager (to travel) The –er verb ending changes according to the subject pronoun (I, you, he, they etc): j’adore I love tu adores you love il/elle adore he/she loves nous adorons we love vous adorez you love ils/elles adorent they love Read them through and then if you have any questions, look at www.languagesonline.org.uk. This should answer your questions, if not you need to come and find your teacher to ask for help. Based on what you have read, conjugate these verbs appropriately. Don’t forget to write in the pronoun as I have done for you for number 1. The week after next you will have to do a short oral presentation in class. You can prepare it in advance but you can’t just read your notes – you have to take time to learn it! Be a good team worker and get someone to help you learn your presentation! Keep revisiting it throughout the week and over the weekend. What you need to do? Prepare a short presentation about your hobbies and the sports you do. Explain also what different activities you do depending on the weather. Year 7 Milestones Listen and respond to a variety of forms of spoken French to obtain key facts Transcribe words and short sentences heard with increasing accuracy Read from a range of materials, including some literary texts, showing understanding of the purpose and important ideas Understand new grammatical concepts and apply them with some success within the existing context. Adapt some existing structures. Learn, understand and use new vocabulary and structures within context, though not always accurately. Decipher some unfamiliar vocabulary using context or cognates. Have a fair working knowledge of present tense, including the most common irregular verbs and be able to identify future tense. Translate to and from the FL and convey meaning, even if some inaccuracies Identify and correct some of own mistakes with some prompting from others or teacher. Produce a short paragraph, for different purposes and audience Ask and answer several questions to convey meaning and give a short presentation. Speak coherently, with increasingly accurate pronunciation Give and justify as well as understand a simple opinion. Spelling is often approximate but meaning is understood.
