Natural Beauty Make Up Trends Cosmetic Valley
C R E AT I V E s o lu tion is to look at nature. Man can observe that Nature is by definition sustainable. It creates with little, doesn’t pollute, recycles: why not imitate it? Reproduce this intelligence? BioMimétisme, an inspired trend started by the American biologist Janine Benyus, studies the functioning of nature to find solutions in creating materials. T hr o u gh th e v e r y co n c r ete examples exhibited at BBL AB, MATERIO will describe several of these solutions. • INFORMATION & INSPIRATION looks to where the sun rises to share “the flip side of green made in Asia.” Through products selected by Florence Bernardin Brec, NATURAL BEAUTY MAKE UP TRENDS, PLACE AU MAQUILLAGE “ VERT ”. • IN F O R M AT I O N & IN S P I R AT I O N regarde du côté où le soleil se lève pour partager « l’envers du vert made in Asia ». Sandie Jaidane: With the “flip side of green” theme, we wanted to be successful at bringing about the perfect synthesis between Nature and Science, or how to offer “ethical cosmetics” that are ever more effective and innovative. Of course cosmetics should be “green” and respectful of the environment, but it mustn’t renounce technology and effectiveness. Following the trend for green ingredients, there is now a much wider current showing up for eco-design and sustainable development, which integrates analysis of life cycle, carbon footprint, environment, and energy savings. Biotechnology and chemistry are among the industrial means of getting there. BBMAG: What themes have the partners worked on? Sandie Jaidane: Solabia will highlight its expertise in biotechnologies, plant extraction and green chemistry. Greentech will focus on natural and organic cosmetics oils, with a formulation workshop. Natur’Alps, a young formulation company, will present work on colorful organic formulas and their vision of organic cosmetics of the future through innovative textures. Stéarinerie Dubois will show that it is also possible to do “green” products without plants. Other players, like MateriO, Mintel, Info & Inspiration and Inspiration Libre, will come and provide their expertise and analyses to BBL AB. COSMED est passé de 200 à 600 adhérents en 5 ans, soit 17000 emplois directs et un chiffre d’affaires de 3,5 milliards d’euros, et prévoit d’atteindre 1000 entreprises adhérentes dans les 3 prochaines années. we will discover an approach very much in use in Japan, the eco-pack, in service to the consumer, as well as the “nonpack” and the new frugality or the “hyper-pack,” which can provide inspiration: new dimensions are taking shape. Natural Beauty Makeup Trends This space will present the latest innovations in terms of “green makeup.” Till now the poor parent of natural cosmetics, makeup has developed incredibly over the past few years With nearly 600 companies from the beauty world and six major French universities, this complex of skills constitutes an exceptional reservoir of expertise in the different perfumery/cosmetics professions: ingredients and raw materials, research and formulation, plastic injection, packaging, tests, PLV, logistics. COSMED as a Trade Organization It is surely as a trade organization representing several of its members that COSMED will again be present this year at CREATIVE BEYOND BEAUTY Paris 2011. “ The association’s change of status to a trade organization will situate COSMED as an active and essential player in the cosmetics sector. We will have very strong exposure among institutions,” announces Stéphanie Petitjean, managing director. COSMED went from 200 to 600 members in 5 years, or 17,000 direct jobs and a turnover of 3.5 billion euros. It forecasts 1000 member companies in the next 3 years. BY K. M. 07-2011 BEYOND BEAUTY MAG 27
