Dairy Cattle Genetics Research and
Development (DairyGen) Council
- Call for Nominations for 2015 The DairyGen Council is an industry committee that is appointed by and reports to the
Canadian Dairy Network (CDN) Board of Directors. Its responsibilities include the
establishment of research and development priorities in the area of dairy cattle genetics, the
review of proposals submitted for industry funding and allocation of industry research
support monies totalling over $450,000 annually.
DairyGen members are appointed to 3-year terms and there is no maximum number of
terms which an individual may serve. At the end of this year, the current terms for Dr.
Robert Moore (Industry), Dr. Jean-Paul Laforest (Research), Dr. Graham Plastow
(Research) and Jack Rodenburg (At Large) are completed. Nominations for these four
positions will be considered by the CDN Board for new terms starting January 2016. The
main criteria for participation on DairyGen include a keen interest in research priorities and
initiatives as well as a reasonable understanding of Canadian genetic evaluations.
DairyGen normally meets twice a year in March and October.

Conseil de recherche et développement en matière
de génétique des bovins laitiers (DairyGen)
- Appel de mise en candidature pour 2014 Le conseil DairyGen est nommé par et se rapporte au Conseil d’administration du Réseau
laitier canadien (CDN) et agit à titre de comité au sein de l’industrie. Ses responsabilités
incluent l’établissement des priorités de recherches et de développement dans le secteur
de la génétique de bovins laitiers, d’étudier les projets de recherche soumis pour demande
de financement par l’industrie et l’affectation des fonds de recherche de l’industrie à partir
d’un budget annuel de 450 000$.
Les membres de DairyGen sont élus pour des termes de trois ans et aucune limite n’est
imposée au nombre de termes auxquels une personne peut s’acquitter. Les termes de Dr
Robert Moore (industrie), Dr Jean-Paul Laforest (recherche), Dr Flavio Schenkel (recherche)
et Jack Rodenburg (général) se terminent cette année. Les mises en candidature seront
considérées par le Conseil d’administration du CDN pour le prochain terme commençant en
janvier 2016. Un intérêt approfondi des priorités de recherche, de l’initiative en plus d’une
connaissance raisonnable des évaluations génétiques canadiennes sont des critères
principaux exigés pour participer au sein du conseil DairyGen. Ce comité se rencontre
typiquement deux fois par année au mois de mars et octobre.
