U
ne jeune française d’origine africaine présente son fiancé blanc à ses
parents et se heurte au racisme familial. En Auvergne, deux lesbiennes
utilisent le hollandais du camping du coin pour faire un enfant. En Irlande, une
petite fille fait sa première communion... toute seule. A New York, une jeune
artiste bi-sexuelle apprend qu’elle a le cancer du sein et qu’elle est enceinte en
même temps. Au Mexique, une femme se confronte a son pire démon : elle-même.
En Tunisie, trois amies font une soirée « pyjama » en regardant « Orange mécanique »…

is confronted with inherent racism. In the South of France, two lesbians are using a
Dutch tourist in order to make a child. In Ireland, a little girl is having her first communion…
alone. In New York, a young bisexual artist gets both the news of her breast cancer
and her pregnancy. In Mexico, a woman is confronted with her worst enemy : herself.

L
e projet « WOMEN, a collection of short stories of our times » se présente
comme un film-concept à la fois indépendant et international, sur une idée
originale de Karine Allenbach, jeune productrice et réalisatrice française.
Composé de 10 court-métrages du monde entier sélectionnés avec soin autour
d’un thème commun : la femme contemporaine, le film dans son format long
entend raconter l’histoire de cette femme d’aujourd’hui au travers de situations
souvent inédites prises dans des contextes culturels complètement différents,
mais balayant des thèmes universels : l’enfance, le mariage, l’amour, la maternité,
le sexe, la folie, la mort, la religion etc…
Ces femmes sont parfois filmées par des hommes, parfois par des femmes, c’est
égal, leur point commun étant d’être des personnages originaux, loin des caricatures et des rôles féminins souvent formatés au cinéma.
Plus qu’un « catalogue thématique », le film se présente comme un « collage »
au sens artistique du terme, dont l’ordre et la chronologie font partie du concept,
proche du « film choral »•, très en vogue actuellement. Loin de la commande aux
réalisateurs « stars », c’est le producteur qui est venu ici assembler le matériel film
créé spontanément par des réalisateurs émergents de tous pays, en projet global
et narratif, ce qui est totalement nouveau.
En un mot, nous pouvons définir ce projet comme « un voyage à la fois culturel
émotionnel et philosophique », amorçant l’idée d’autres programmes longs composés de la même manière, nous permettant dans le même temps d’amener à voir
le meilleur du court-métrage indépendant en pleine effervescence internationale
aujourd’hui dans un vrai contexte de cinéma
grand public, qualitatif et reconnu.

THE PROJECT
(english version)
T
he project « WOMEN, a collection of short
stories of our times » is an independent and
international film-concept based on an original idea
from Karine Allenbach, a young French producer
and director.
The film will be composed of about 10 short movies
from all over the world, each one chosen with great
care and through a common theme : the contemporary woman. The objective is to tell a story of
this « modern woman », through short stories in
uncommon situations and taken in very different cultural contexts,
but relating to very universal subjects : childhood, marriage, love,
maternity, sex, madness, death, religion etc…
Those women may be filmed by men or by women, this is not important, their
common thread is that all of them are original and modern characters, far from
caricatures and the commonly understood feminine roles thet we’re so used to
seeing in movies.
More than a « thematic catalog », the movie itself shall be composed as a
« collage » in the artistic sense, in which chronology and links between stories will
be entirely part of the concept, like in a « film choral »•, which is a modern and
very modish « style» of cinema. It is not at all a movie made on commission by
« star-directors » on an imposed theme. Here the producer is assembling
previoudly made movies from emerging directors from all over the world, in a
global and narrative project that is completely new.
In a few words, we could define this project as a « cultural, emotionnal and philosophical journey». We could then imagine other films being made the same way,
with other concepts, inspired directly by the emerging movies. By doing this, we
can bring the best of independent cinema creation growing now from all over
the world in short movies to a real true popular cinema context, and its essential
quality recognition.

ée d’un père malien et d’une mère séné-gambienne, Aïssa
Maïga a passé son enfance à Dakar avant de s’installer
à Paris. Elle devient très vite une actrice remarquée du cinéma français, rencontrant des réalisateurs prestigieux comme
Michael Haneke, Claude Berri, Alain Tanner. Elle s’est fait vraiment connaître grâce à son rôle dans Les Poupées russes de
Cédric Klapisch, dans lequel elle joue la petite amie de Romain
Duris. Après avoir joué dans le recueil de court-métrages internationaux sur la capitale française Paris, je t’aime, elle a été
présélectionnée dans la catégorie Meilleur Espoir du Cinéma
Français aux Césars 2006 pour son
rôle dans le film Bamako (Cannes, New
York, Paris and Toronto film festivals),
Aïssa Maïga a été récemment classée
parmi les cinq plus belles actrices de
l’histoire du cinéma.
Elle prépare aujourd’hui son premier
film en tant que réalisatrice : Il faut
quitter Bamako, sur un scénario de sa
propre plume.

mother with origins in Senegal and
Gambia, Aïssa Maïga spent her early
years in Dakar before settling down
in Paris. She quickly became an outstanding actress of French cinema, working with prestigious directors such as Michael Haneke,
Claude Berri, Alain Tanner. She discovered fame through her role
in Les Poupées russes from French director Cédric Klapisch, in
which she plays the part of the young French star Romain Duris’s
grilfriend. After a role in the short movies international collection
Paris, je t’aime, she was nominated in the Best young actress
category for the french Cesars 2006 for her part as the
leading actress in the movie Bamako (Cannes, New York, Paris and
Toronto films festivals). Aïssa Maïga was recently rated as one of
the most beautiful actresses in the history of cinema.
She is currently working on her first movie as a director : Il faut
quitter Bamako, from a script she wrote personnaly.

O
riginaire de Clermont-Ferrand et influencé très tôt par
un oncle passionné par la vidéo, Renaud Ducoing crée
en 1990 une association régionale de cinéastes techniciens
amateurs : ANDESITE PRODUCTION qui lui permet de réaliser
ses premiers films. Aujourd’hui il en est déjà à son quinzième
court-métrage, avec un nombre croissant de prix impressionnant dans tous les festivals amateurs régionaux de France,
dont le dernier Cas de force majeure (Showtime production)
était lauréat au festival du film d’Angoulême. Comédie
noire, subtils personnages féminins pris en plein doute, film
de genre policier sur fond de campagne française… Renaud
Ducoing campe petit à petit un univers très personnel, à la fois
sombre et coloré, entre Bertrand Blier et François Ozon.
Cinéaste le plus talentueux de la FFCV, médaillé d’or par
l’ Association CINEVIF pour son court-métrage Amoureuses
en 2007, il prépare actuellement son premier long-métrage,
Mauvais Garçons, en phase d’écriture chez Ursa Minor Films.

enaud Ducoing was born in Clermont-Ferrand (center of France) and spent his early years under the influence of an uncle
fond of video. In 1990 he founded ANDESITE PRODUCTION, a local
association with a number of other passionnate filmmakers and
began making his first short films. Today, he has already written
and directed 15 short movies, with a number of awards won in
many regional film festivals in France. His last one, Cas de force
majeure (Showtime production), was the laureate at the film
festival of Angoulême. Dark comedy, subtle and doubtful
feminine characters, film noir atmosphere filmed in the French
countryside setting… Renaud Ducoing is creating a very personnal and creative world, equally dark and colored, calling to mind
original French and famous directors such as Bertrand Blier and
François Ozon.
He was called the « most talented young filmmaker » by the
largest French independant video movies association (FFCV),
won the gold medal by CINEVIF regional association in 2007 for
his short movie Amoureuses, and he is currently writing his first
feature, Mauvais Garçons (Ursa Minor Films).

eulement âgé de 25 ans, Edgar Revilla Rodriguez a fait le tour du
monde (Seoul Film Festival, Bridge Fest Vancouver, Haydenfilms
USA et…) avec son court-métrage Encounters tourné en pellicule
35mm et entièrement auto-financé. Lauréat de la Special Recognition au Boston Film Festival en 2007, il est à l’image de cette
génération montante de réalisateurs d’Amérique latine très en vogue à
Hollywood, marchant dans les traces du mexicain Alejandro Gonzales Innaritu (Babel, Cannes 2007).
Il prépare actuellement son premier long-métrage: Instantes

efore the age of 25, Edgar Revilla Rodriguez has gone around the
world (Seoul Film Festival, Bridge Fest Vancouver, Haydenfilms
USA etc…) with his short movie Encounters which he processed in
35 mm film and self-financed the entire project. Laureate of the Special

He is currently working on his first feature project : Instantes.

iplômée de l’ESEC, Ecole Supérieure d’Etudes Cinematographiques de Paris en 1991, Karine Allenbach a commencé à
travailler dès l’âge de 19 ans comme assistante pour le
cinéma, puis comme monteuse sur les premiers films en
France utilisant le logiciel de montage virtuel AVID.
De 1993 à 2004 elle a monté et parfois co-réalisé plus
d’une trentaine d’œuvres audiovisuelles, en cinéma,
documentaire, reportage, télévision, publicité, et travaillé
pour la plupart des magazines et agences de presses les
plus connus des chaînes hertziennes (M6, CANAL+, Arte,
France 2, Sunset Presse…)
Elle mène également depuis plusieurs années une carrière
artistique personnelle comme peintre et artiste numérique.
Mais son univers reste fortement ancré dans ses racines
cinématographiques.
En 2005 Karine Allenbach a crée sa société de production :
URSA MINOR FILMS.
Elle est membre du SPI, syndicat des producteurs indépendants.

raduated from the French film school ESEC (Ecole Supérieure d’Etudes Cinematographiques) in Paris in 1991, Karine
Allenbach began working at 19 years old as an assistanteditor for the cinema, then as an editor for the first features in
France using AVID, virtual editing system.
From 1993 till 2004, she has been editing movies for the
cinema but also editing and/or directing many broadcast
programs and documentaries for among the most famous
French TV channels and press agencies (M6, CANAL+, Arte,
France 2, Sunset Presse).
In addition to her career as an editor, she has led a more
personnal career as a painter and numeric arts performer.
Nevertheless, her work as an artist remains clearly linked to
her cinematographic background.
In 2005 she founded her own production company :
URSA MINOR FILMS, in Paris, where she lives.
She’s a member of the SPI (French Independent Film
Producers’ Guild).

rsa minor films est une société de production de films,
basée à Paris et fondée en 2005 par Karine Allenbach, qui
a d’abord été chef-monteuse pour le cinéma et la télévision
pendant 15 ans.
Que ce soit par la production, la co-production, la post-production ou la distribution, Ursa minor films se veut résolument
tournée vers un cinéma audacieux, composé de talents qu’elle
s’emploie à découvrir, accompagner et promouvoir.
Un cinéma de qualité, engagé dans la modernité, ouvert à
l’international et tourné vers la rencontre essentielle avec le
public.
