Components characteristics The central processing unit is based on a microprocessor ARM 9 (Full 32 bits architecture), clocked at 200 MHz and a secure 32 bits microprocessor performing algorithms functions and keys storage. Main characteristics: Multitask Operating System - Linux Operating System and applications are located in the resident memory (FLASH EPROM). FLASH EPROM technology allows Operating System reloading, without having to open the terminal, especially for the downloading. b. Communication Interfaces MagIC3 R-8 terminals benefit from an Ethernet 10/100 base T port. • Ethernet 10/100 base T port allows MagIC3 R-8 to be used in a Local Area Network or be connected to Internet (ADSL). MagIC3 R-series terminals integrate TCP/IP protocol in standard, and SSL v3 for an enhanced security over public networks. c. Display It is a LCD backlighted display of 128 x 64 pixels (excluding the icon bar). The backlight is performed thanks to a LED network with a uniform level of lighting (instead of a lateral lighting). In standard, the display is used by software managing 4 lines of 16 characters to give the best visibility to the final user. The display contrast is configurable from the MENU. The icon bar has been designed to allow a navigation similar to Mobile Phone. It includes systems information allowing merchants or technical assistance to perform easily & quickly a first diagnostic of the terminal status (Pinpad connected, Ethernet network status, PSTN communication in progress, USB peripheral connected, Under Processing…). ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Copyright Gemalto – 2007 Ce document ne peut être communiqué à des tiers sans autorisation écrite d'une personne habilitée de Gemalto. Keyboard Characteristics: Main keyboard with 15 alphanumerical keys and 3 functional keys (Validate, Modify, Cancel). Complementary keyboard including 3 injected keys indelible to activate the menu and scroll the different options on the display. Liquid and dust proof Confidential code encrypting in compliance with PCI PED norm. Optional: Master Key Session (algorithm DUKPT). Keys marking are conceived to resist to abrasion and wear during the product life. Keyboards are protected against splash, in order to protect internal electronic components. MagIC3 R-series keyboards are conform to the European norm EBS 100 v3. e. Smart Card reader The smart card reader manages ISO position and is ISO 7816 -1-2-3-4 norms compliant. It also manages smart cards with asynchronous interface (B0’, EMV), and synchronous interface (EE2K, EE4K, T2G, EUROCHIP, etc...) of 3 & 5 volts. f. Magstripe reader The magstripe reader can read any types of magstripe cards conform to the ISO norm and ANSI X 4.16 norm. The standard configuration reads ISO 1/2 magstripe (ISO 2&3 and 1&2&3 in option). The card reading is bidirectional. The length of the swipe guide is important for a better position and stability of the card while swiping, to obtain a good reading quality. g. SAM connectors MagIC3 R-series terminals support up to 4 accessible SIM readers (small size). The SIM readers accept T=0 and T=1 protocols and can be interfaced only with asynchronous cards. Note: If a second smart card reader is required, the number of accessible SAM readers is reduced to 3. h. 2nd Smart Card reader MagIC3 R-series terminals can be equipped with a second smart card reader as an option, located under the 1st smart card reader of the terminal ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Copyright Gemalto – 2007 Ce document ne peut être communiqué à des tiers sans autorisation écrite d'une personne habilitée de Gemalto. Tamper Responsive and Tamper Evident The MagIC3 R-series terminals are « tamper responsive ». This solution enables maximum security. In case of fraud tentative, the MagIC3 R-series terminal erases all sensible data (keys) and prevent from any other transaction. b. Software Authentication The MagIC3 R-series terminals, in standard, integrates software authentication feature. This security prevent from non-approved software to be loaded on the terminal. This security is implemented during the manufacturing of the terminal enabling security to be kept at maximum level during the terminal’s transport. c. SSL v3: Servers and Terminal Mutual Authentication The SSL v3 feature available on MagIC3 R-series reinforces the security of data exchange with the servers. The encrypted exchanges and the mutual authentication (server – terminal) warrant data integrity but also the origin of the exchange. 5. Peripherals MagIC3 R-series terminals includes different communication means to allow easy integration into any kind of environment. a. "USB Host" Port MagIC3 R-5 and MagIC3R-8 respectively integrate 1 and 2 USB Host ports allowing to pilot different peripherals. Adding of a new peripherals on MagIC3 R-series terminals is simple, the pilots can be easily installed thanks to the Linux Operating System. The USB port can also be used to locally load software onto the terminal. 1 Mb software can be downloaded almost immediately. b. "USB Slave" Port MagIC3 R-8 includes one USB Slave port enabling the terminal to be used as a peripheral (the master is the Electronic Cash Register or the PC, …). c. RS 232 Port MagIC3 R-series include also one RS-232 port (115kbps) to continue to use existing peripherals such as cash registers, external modems, … ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Copyright Gemalto – 2007 Ce document ne peut être communiqué à des tiers sans autorisation écrite d'une personne habilitée de Gemalto. Local downloading tool Local software downloading tools on MagIC3 R-series terminals is simply performed using a USB key or a USB cable connected to a PC. The complete loading of software configuration is done in several seconds. Any USB key can be used. Security is managed with authentication mechanism. The application to be downloaded is encrypted and authenticated by the terminal’s key before downloading is accepted. 7. Environment MagIC3 R-series terminals are entirely conform to European environmental norms such as RoHS (Risk of Hazardous Substances). 8. Evolution / Future MagIC3 R-series has been designed to be easily adapted and pioneer technological evolutions. Thanks to its Linux platform and the numerous USB ports, it becomes easy to install new peripherals such as check readers, new ECR and be future-proof… ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Copyright Gemalto – 2007 Ce document ne peut être communiqué à des tiers sans autorisation écrite d'une personne habilitée de Gemalto.
