This short poem contains many examples of the ‘on’ and ‘ien’ sounds. You may also like to revise the letter string ‘e a u’ which sounds ‘eau’ and which was introduced in Phonics Episode 1 before attempting this poem. Listen to the poem first of all with the text in front of you (either on screen or .pdf transcript). Here’s the first verse. When you listen to this note how many times you hear the ‘ien’ letter string. Activity 2 Now here’s the second verse. This time focus on the letter string ‘e a u’ and the ‘eau’ sound. Activity 3 Are you ready now for verse 3? Let’s up the challenge a bit. When you listen this time, how many times do you hear the letter string ‘ien’ and also ‘on’?
