Ion pair reagents
Ion Pair Chromatography has been developed to
allow the separation of complex mixtures of polar and
ionic molecules, which often are not well separated
by ion exchange chromatography. The selectivity is
determined by the mobile phase: the organic eluent
is supplemented with a specific ion-pairing reagent.
The IPC reagents are large ionic molecules having a
charge opposite to the targeted analyte, as well as
a hydrophobic region to interact with the stationary
phase. The counter-ion combines with the ions of the
eluent, becoming ion pairs in the stationary phase.
The purity of the mobile phase and therefore the
accuracy of the results depend on the quality of the
additive. The specifications of our ion pair reagents
are in line with the requirements of Reverse-phase
HPLC:

Ion pairs are then separated on Reverse-phase HPLC
columns.

A complete solution for degassing the mobile phases
The degassing is an essential step in the preparation of mobile phases as it avoids tampering the sample and the
stationary phase by oxidation. The presence of gas bubbles may also affect the proper functioning of the sensor and
thus greatly increase the baseline.

The DURAN® filtering apparatus is made of highquality borosilicate glass. Aside from glass, the
medium only comes into chemical contact with PTFE.

Universal filter HPLC SPARTAN® for HPLC
For filtration of aqueous and organic samples in HPLC, CARLO
ERBA Reagents offers the SPARTAN®, the most versatile syringe
filter from Whatman for almost all HPLC samples.
The hydrophilic membrane with very low protein
binding is made of regenerated cellulose (RC) to
ensure the chemical stability and the absence of
parasites extractable components. The filter body
is in HPLC grade polypropylene to ensure the best
possible results.
SPARTAN® is avalaible in two diameters: 30 mm
providing a large filter surface for sample volumes
> 5 ml and 13 mm for samples < 5 ml:
