Au cours de la dernière décennie,
le pianiste canadien André
Laplante a confirmé qu’il était l’un
des grands virtuoses romantiques
de la scène actuelle. Il a retenu
l’attention internationale après
avoir remporté des prix aux
Concours internationaux de
Genève et Sydney ainsi que la
médaille d’argent du Concours
international Tchaïkovski à
Moscou. Les critiques l’ont
comparé à Ashkenazy, Horowitz
et Rudolf Serkin, le rangeant dans
le cercle restreint des pianistes
virtuoses qui n’hésitent pas à
prendre des risques.

Artiste prolifique au disque, André
Laplante a enregistré pour Analketa
des albums consacrés à Liszt (Félix
1995), Ravel et Rachmaninov, de
même qu’un disque remarqué dédié
à Brahms (Félix 1996). Il a aussi
enregistré pour CBC et Melodia.
Son enregistrement du Concerto
no 1 de Tchaïkovski avec Yoav
Talmi et l’Orchestre symphonique
de Québec a été nominé en 2001
pour un Félix. En 1999, M. Laplante
recevait deux Prix Opus. Il En 2010
son enregistrement des Années
de Pèlerinage de Liszt s’est mérité
le Prix Félix pour le meilleur
album solo classique de l’année.
Il enseigne au Conservatoire de
musique de Montréal.
En 2005, M. Laplante a été
nommé officier de l’Ordre du
Canada. Son interprétation du
Concerto pour piano no 2 de
Jacques Hétu sous étiquette
CBC Records lui a valu le Juno
2004 du meilleur enregistrement
orchestral, de même qu’un
Western Canadian Music Award.
On a pu récemment entendre
