COWW Development
• Developed a Moodle software platform
• Case writing workshop
– Clinically relevant and interesting cases with a
focus on tacit knowledge
• Weekly schedule
– Different faculty assigned weekly moderators
– Residents assigned to be a “1st editor”
– Expectations of participation clearly laid out
• Friday morning teleconference sessions
hosted in Sudbury
re · vise

reconsider and alter (something) in the light
of further evidence
Lessons learned
• 500 word limit
• Increased number of co-moderators
– Increased level of discussion
– Graduated responsibility
• Created a discussion board
• Cases and guiding questions focused
specifically on judgment and conflicts
• Confidentiality agreement
Conclusion
• The COWW has been successful in creating
an online distributed community engaged
learning environment
• After revision a culture of safe and
collaborative online learning has been
established
• Tacit knowledge can be transmitted through
a virtual learning environment
• A formal process of evaluation and revision
was key to the success of this educational
initiative
