C’est à l’occasion de l’exposition “Plates for
Soulmates” à la galerie belge Valerie Traan que la
designer londonienne Andere Monjo et le chef
pâtissier belge Lionel Bethaz imaginent, en tandem, ce service de table comestible. L’eau et la
farine sont les seuls ingrédients de ces assiettes,
couverts et torchons à déguster sur place !
For the “Plates for Soulmates” exhibition at the
Valerie Traan gallery in Belgium, London designer Andere Monjo and Belgian pastry chef
Lionel Bethaz created, in unison, edible tableware.
Water and flour are the only ingredients used for
the dishes, cutlery and towels that can be devoured on the spot !

Après cinq années passées à étudier l’ethnologie, le
duo de designers The Home Project – constitué du
Portugais Álbio Nascimento et de l’Allemande
Kathi Stertzig – donne à sa collection “Lugar de
Estar” une esthétique ancrée dans les traditions
locales et artisanales. En développant ce qu’ils nomment les artefacts d’origine, ils mettent en lumière
le savoir-faire des artisans du sud du Portugal :
travail de la terre cuite, tissage de lin naturel, broderie, récolte et façonnage du liège. Des objets du
quotidien, sincères et justes, qui nous rappellent que
l’essentiel est là, au cœur de nos origines.
Latin roots
After studying ethnology for the past five years, the
duo of designers from The Home Project — Álbio
Nascimento from Portugal and Kathi Stertzig from
Germany — decided to impart aesthetics of local
craft traditions to their “Lugar de Estar” collection.
By developing what they call artefacts of origin,
they highlight the savoir-faire of the artisans of
southern Portugal : terracotta, natural linen weaving, embroidery, and cork harvesting and shaping.
Authentic and everyday objects which remind us
that the most important things can be found at the
heart of our origins.
