Raglan Mine’s senior management team is in solid support of this initiative, convinced that the TAMATUMANI project will foster Nunavik’s economic prosperity, promote cultural understanding and harmony and favour openness between partners. Its dedication puts the tools of success in the hands of all workers. A different organizational culture. One of the distinguishing features of the TAMATUMANI project is that it makes available to Inuit candidates a number of entry-level positions within Xstrata Nickel – Raglan Mine or as employees of contractors involved in the mine’s operations. Beyond academic credentials, the selection process takes into account strong interest and a high level of motivation to work on a mining site. Learning from others. The entire workforce plays a role in the success of the TAMATUMANI project. Courses and extracurricular activities aim at fostering, at every level, a work environment where different backgrounds and cultures are valued and everyone’s contri bution is appreciated. Effectively integrating a rich diversity of talents for the greater individual and collective good is a priority and this is evident at every stage – from recruitment, to training, ongoing support and advancement. In addition to providing technical training, the project introduces the notion of essential skills to facilitate the acquisition of technical knowledge. Dispensed by a dedicated team of specialists in the field of education, this program aims at developing or strengthening on the job training to enhance technical apprenticeship. Additional training modules, designed to ease the transition towards employment in an industrial setting, further facilitates the integration of Inuit candidates. Some sessions focus on the expectations of employers such as Raglan and its contractors. The advantages offered to new Inuit employees within the TAMATUMANI project also include personalized career plans. Employees already working with Xstrata Nickel - Raglan Mine will also benefit from individual progression plans. We need your talent! Production demands in the coming years will have a direct impact on employment at Raglan. Human resources are critical to the mine’s long-term success, given the correlation between anticipated growth and workforce needs. This has motivated the senior management team and its partners to invest significantly in people, talent and skills. The Kativik Regional Government and Kativik School Board worked together, in partnership with Xstrata Nickel – Raglan Mine, to articulate the vision and content of the TAMATUMANI project. The initiative receives financial support from Human Resources and Social Development Canada’s ASEP program (Aboriginal Skills and Employment Partnership), as well as from Emploi Québec. job openings and a choice of occupations at Xstrata Nickel – Raglan Mine and its contractors The Tamatumani project offers employment opportunities to Inuit citizens covered by the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement who wish to pursue a career in mining and other related jobs at the Raglan site. A home away from home – Support to the Inuit worker and family. The jobsite is ‘home’ when working in a remote location such as Raglan Mine. While this is trying for all employees, integration into a group having a different culture and language can be challenging for some Inuit workers.
