THE WEEK OF CHRISTIAN UNITY
Since the Vatican Council closed over 40 years ago, the
Church has celebrated a week of Christian Unity from
January 18th to 25th. This week is dedicated to prayer that all
those who believe in Jesus be ONE. It saddens the heart
of Christ that Christians are divided. Jesus founded ONE
CHURCH. He prayed, before He died: ``Father, may they
be one, as You are in Me and I am in You. I pray that
they may be one in Us, that the world may believe that
You sent Me.'' [John 17.21]
Christianity includes all those who believe in Jesus Christ
as God-become-man and as Savior of the world. The three
main branches of Christianity are the Roman Catholic
Church; the Orthodox Churches; and Protestantism. The
Orthodox Churches split from the Catholic in 1053 AD.
Protestantism usually sets its dates from Martin Luther in
1525. Each of the other churches have a founding date, a
time when they split from the Catholic Church or another
Protestant church.
The Roman Catholic Church does not want her children to
leave to go to other churches. Nor do we say that all
churches are equal - they are not. But there is a reality that
there are many sincere Christians - who are baptized as we
are, who believe the same Scriptures that we do, who
acknowledge Jesus Christ as God and Savior as we do.
These are brothers and sisters in Christ - let us pray that we
may be united in faith, in witness, in Church.
The word Ecumenism comes from a Greek word that
means house. The word is designed to address the fact that
all who believe in Jesus belong to the same household. It is a
word used to describe an attitude - an attitude of trust and
love and concern, to replace suspicion and rivalry and cold
war. Ecumenism is not trying to convert - it is focusing on
what unites us: Jesus the Christ.
In his letter, Novo Millennio Ineunte, the Pope John Paul
II had this to say about the ``ecumenical dimension'': I had
also asked for special attention to be given in the program of
the Jubilee Year to the ecumenical aspect.
What occasion could be more suitable for encouraging
progress on the path towards full communion than the
shared celebration of the birth of Christ? Much work was
done with this in mind, and one of the highlights was the ecumenical meeting in Saint Paul's Basilica on 18 January 2000,
when for the first time in history a Holy Door was opened
jointly by the Successor of Peter, the Anglican Primate and a
Metropolitan of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, in the presence of representatives of Churches and
Ecclesial Communities from all over the world. ... The
ecumenical journey is certainly still difficult, and will perhaps
be long, but we are encouraged by the hope that comes from
being led by the presence of the Risen One and the
inexhaustible power of His Spirit, always capable of new
surprises.
The week of Christian Unity is designed to end on January
25 - the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. St. Paul is an
important figure in Ecumenism and Christian Unity - not all
Christians share our faith in the Sacraments; not all believe in
Mary as we do; not all believe in the priesthood and the Pope
as we do. But all who are Christians believe in the Bible as
the Word of God. St. Paul, Preacher of God's Word - help us
to become ONE.
Pope Francis is a Pope known for his ecumenical
gestures. As Cardinal of Buenos Aires, he was extremely
active in ecumenical activities. In his two years as Pope, he
has sent a Video to a Pentecostal assembly in the United
States and has prayed with the Patriarch of the Greek
Orthodox Church in Istanbul, Turkey.
The 2nd Vatican Council, Document On Ecumenism, says:
"Concern for the restoration of unity belongs to the whole
Church, faithful and clergy alike. It extends to everyone,
according to the potential of each, whether it be exercised in
daily Christian living or in theological and historical studies.
This very concern already indicates to some extent the bond
of brotherhood existing among all Christians, and it leads to
that full and perfect unity which God lovingly desires."

LA SEMAINE DE L'UNITÉ CHRÉTIENNE
Dès la clôture du Deuxième Concile Vatican, il y a plus que
40 ans, l'Église a célébré une Semaine d'Unité Chrétienne dès
le 18 janvier au 25. Cette semaine est séparée à la prière que
tous ceux qui croient en Jésus soient UN.
Le Cœur de Jésus est triste que les Chrétiens sont divisés.
Jésus n'a établie que UNE SEULE ÉGLISE. Il a prié, la nuit
avant de mourir: ``Père, qu'ils soient un, comme Tu es en Moi
et Moi en Toi. Je prie qu'ils soient un en nous, que le
monde croie que Tu M'as envoyé.'' [Jean 17.21]
La Chrétienté inclut tous ceux qui croient en Jésus-Christ
comme Dieu-fait-homme et comme Sauveur du monde. Les
trois branches principales de la Chrétienté sont l'Église
Catholique Romaine; les Églises Orthodoxes; et le
Protestantisme. Les Église Orthodoxes sont parties
de l'Église Catholique en 1053 ap. JC.
Le
Protestantisme met ses dates ordinairement depuis
Martin Luther en 1525. Chacune des autres églises
ont une date de fondation depuis lors elles sont
séparées ou de l'Église Catholique ou d'une autre
église Protestante.
L'Église Catholique Romaine ne veut pas que ses enfants
sortent pour aller à d'autres églises. Et nous ne disons pas que
toutes les églises sont le même - cela n'est pas vrai. Mais
aussitôt, il y a une réalité mondiale qu'il y a beaucoup de
Chrétiens sincères - qui sont baptisés, qui lisent les mêmes
Écritures que nous lisons, et qui reconnaissent Jésus-Christ
comme Dieu et Sauveur comme nous. Ceux-ci sont frères et
sœurs en Christ - prions cette semaine que nous soyons unis en
foi, en témoignage, en une seule Église.
La parole Œcuménisme vient d'un mot grec qui veut dire
maison. Elle est un mot façonné pour parler au fait que tous
ceux qui croient en Jésus appartiennent à la même maison. Elle
est un mot utilisé pour décrire une attitude - une attitude de
confiance, d'amour et de soin, pour remplacer la suspicion, la
rivalité et la guerre froide. L'Œcuménisme ne sert que quand les
membres des églises sont sûrs de leur foi et possèdent un désir
fraternel de prier et travailler ensemble. L'Œcuménisme n'est
pas l'effort de se convertir l'un à l'autre, sinon il est la
concentration sur celui qui nous unit: Jésus le Christ.

mandé que, dans le programme de l'Année jubilaire, on réserve
une attention particulière à la dimension œcuménique. Y a-t-il
une meilleure occasion, pour encourager la marche vers la
pleine communion, que la célébration commune de la naissance
du Christ? Beaucoup d'efforts ont été accomplis à cette fin, et il
reste le souvenir lumineux de la rencontre œcuménique dans la
Basilique Saint-Paul, le 18 janvier 2000, quand, pour la première
fois dans l'histoire, une Porte sainte a été ouverte conjointement
par le Successeur de Pierre, par le Primat de la Communion
anglicane et par un Métropolite du Patriarcat œcuménique de
Constantinople, en présence de représentants d'Églises et de
Communautés ecclésiales du monde entier... Certes, le chemin
œcuménique reste ardu, peut-être long, mais ce qui
nous anime, c'est l'espérance d'être guidés par la
présence du Ressuscité et par la force inépuisable de
Son Esprit, capable de surprises toujours nouvelles.
La semaine de l'Unité Chrétienne est désignée de
conclure le 25 janvier - la Fête de la Conversion de
St. Paul. St. Paul est une personne importante en
parlant de l'Œcuménisme et de l'Unité Chrétienne.
Tous les Chrétiens ne partagent pas notre foi dans les Sacrements; et tous ne croient pas en la Vierge Marie comme nousmêmes; tous ne croient pas dans le sacerdoce et le Pape
comme nous. Mais tous, oui, tous ceux qui sommes Chrétiens
croient dans la Bible comme la Parole de Dieu. St. Paul, le Prédicateur et Auteur de la Parole de Dieu, aide-nous à devenir UN.
Pape François est un Pape connu pour ses geste
œcuméniques. Comme Cardinal de Buenos Aires, il était très
actif dans les activités œcuméniques. Pendant ses deux ans
comme Pape, il a envoyé un Vidéo à une assemblée
Pentecôtiste aux États-Unis, et il a prié avec le Patriarche de
l'Église Grecque-Orthodoxe à Istanbul, Turquie.

dit: "Le souci de parvenir à l'union concerne l'Église tout entière,
fidèles autant que pasteurs, et touche chacun selon ses possibilités, aussi bien dans la vie chrétienne quotidienne que dans
les recherches théologiques et historiques. Un souci de cette
sorte manifeste, d'une certaine façon, la liaison fraternelle qui
existe déjà entre les Chrétiens et conduit à une unité pleine et
parfaite, selon la bienveillance de Dieu."

LA SEMANA DE LA UNIDAD CRISTIANA
Desde que se cerró el Concilio Vaticano hace más de 40
años, la Iglesia ha celebrado una Semana de Unidad Cristiana
del 18 al 25 de enero. Esta semana se dedica a oración que
todos los que creen en Jesús sean UNO.
Entristece el corazón de Cristo que los cristianos son
divididos. Jesús estableció UNA SOLA IGLESIA. La noche
antes de morir, Él oró: "Padre, que sean uno, como Tú estás
en Mí y Yo en Ti. Que sean tan completamente uno, que el
mundo sepa que Tú Me has enviado [Juan 17.21].
El Cristianismo incluye a todos los que creen en Jesucristo
como Dios-hecho-hombre y como Salvador del mundo. Los tres
ramos principales del Cristianismo son la Iglesia Católica
Romana; las Iglesias Ortodoxas; y el Protestantismo.
Las Iglesias Ortodoxas salieron de la Católica en 1053
AD. El Protestantismo pone sus feches desde Martín
Luthero en 1525. Cada una de las otras iglesias
ponen una fecha de fundación desde cuando se fueron
de la Iglesia Católica, o de otra iglesia Protestante.
La Iglesia Católica Romana no quiere que sus hijos
salgan a otras iglesias. Tampoco no decimos que
todas las iglesias son lo mismo - no lo son. Pero hay
una realidad que hay muchos Cristianos sinceros - que
son bautizados como nosotros, que creen en las mismas
Escrituras que nosotros, que reconocen a Jesús como Dios y
Salvador como nosotros. Éstos son hermanos y hermanas en
Cristo - oremos esta semana que seamos unidos en fe, en
testimonio, en Iglesia.
La palabra Ecumenismo viene de una palabra griega que
quiere decir casa. Es una palabra formada para hablar del
hecho que todos los que creen en Jesús pertenecen a la misma
casa. Es una palabra utilizada para describir una actitud - una
actitud de confianza, de amor y de cuidado, para remplazar las
sospechas, la rivalidad y la guerra fría. El ecumenismo sólo
puede ayudar cuando los miembros de las iglesias están
seguros de su fe y tienen un deseo fraternal de orar y trabajar
juntos. El ecumenismo no es tratar de convertirse el uno al otro
- es concentrarse en lo que nos une: Jesús el Cristo.

particular atención a la dimensión ecuménica. ¿Qué ocasión
más propicia para animar el camino hacia la plena comunión
que la celebración común del nacimiento de Cristo? Se han
llevado a cabo muchos esfuerzos para este objetivo, y entre
ellos destaca el encuentro ecuménico en la Basílica de San
Pablo el 18 de enero de 2000, cuando por primera vez en la
historia una Puerta Santa fue abierta conjuntamente por el
Sucesor de Pedro, por el Primado Anglicano y por un
Metropolitano del Patriarcado Ecuménico de Constantinopla, en
presencia de representantes de Iglesias y Comunidades
eclesiales del todo el mundo...El camino ecuménico es
ciertamente laborioso, quizás largo, pero nos anima la
esperanza de estar guiados por la presencia de Cristo
resucitado y por la fuerza inagotable de su Espíritu,
capaz de sorpresas siempre nuevas.
La semana de Unidad Cristiana es planificada para
que se termine el 25 de enero - la Fiesta de la
Conversión de San Pablo. Al hablar del Ecumenismo
y la Unidad Cristiana, San Pablo es una persona
importante - no todos los cristianos comparten nuestra
fe en los Sacramentos; y no todos creen en la Virgen
María como nosotros; y tampoco no todos creen en el
sacerdocio y en el Papa como nosotros. Pero todos creemos
en la Biblia como la Palabra de Dios. San Pablo - gran
Predicador y Escritor de la Palabra de Dios, ayúdanos para que
seamos UNO.
El Papa Franciscos es un Papa conocido por sus gestos
ecuménicos. Como Cardenal de Buenos Aires, era muy activo
en actividades ecuménicas. Durante sus dos años como Papa,
ha enviado un Video a una asamblea Pentecostal en los
Estados Unidos, y ha orado con el Patriarca de la Iglesia
Ortodoxa Griega en Istanbul, Turquía.

El 2 Concilio del Vaticano, en el Documento El Ecumenismo,
dice: "La preocupación por el restablecimiento de la unión es
cosa de toda la Iglesia, de los fieles y de los pastores, y afecta a
cada uno según sus propias cualidades, en la vida cristiana
cotidiana, o en las investigaciones teológicas e históricas. Este
interés manifiesta ya en algún modo la unión fraterna que existe
entre todos los cristianos y conduce a la plena y perfecta
unidad, según la benevolencia de Dios."
