Laying instructions Attention: Read thoroughly from beginning to end before installation! Celenio is a technically sophisticated product. To meet the high quality requirements, Hamberger trains and certifies authorised business partners in the installation of Celenio. Please note: Celenio must only be laid by installers who have been certified by Hamberger. Hamberger accepts no warranty or liability for Celenio flooring installed by any person without such certification. Required tools - For laying, grouting and caulking you will need a special spreader L, tile spacers, a grout float, a grouting sponge, a viscose sponge and, if necessary, a caulking gun (for silicone caulk). - To cut Celenio use a circular saw bench with a wood saw blade, a wood or metal drill, a compass saw, and a square edge. - For precise measurements use spirit level, chalk line and straightedge. - Please follow the manufacturers’ instructions and wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Type of adhesive Celenio Special Glue Adhesive storage: Store in a cool, dry place; shelf life approx. 6 months when stored in unopened original container. Grout Celenio Special Grout Layout plan for calculating the exact material requirements - To determine the amount of material you will need, draw a ground plan of the areas to be installed on graph paper true to scale. Then include the pattern in which you want to lay your Celenio floor in the ground plan, taking the tile size and planned tile joint width into account. - Use the finished drawing to calculate the required amount of Celenio tiles. Add approx. 5% (up to 10% for diagonal patterns) since you will need to cut some of the tiles to size, and add a further 5% to have additional material handy in case repairs should become necessary some time. Subfloors Cement floor, sanded anhydrite floor, V 100 (E1), solidly fixed particleboard or OSB underlayment. Floating dry floor screed elements, such as V 100 (E1) or OSB boards must be at least 30 mm thick. Please ask for our special laying instructions when installing over plasterboard or cement board. Suitable only for indoor use in well-ventilated rooms. Testing of subfloor The subfloor must be tested before laying according to the German VOB Contract Procedures for Building Works, Part C, DIN 18 356 Parquetry Works. The subfloor must be dry, clean and even, compression- and tension-proof, and free of cracks. Make sure the subfloor has been cleaned thoroughly from oil, grease, wax, paint, plaster, dust and other deleterious substances that may prevent or reduce adhesion. - Moisture check The subfloor must be checked for possible moisture, e.g. by using a CM measuring instrument. Limit moisture content: Cement screed max. 2.0 CM (weight)%, with underfloor heating 1.8% CM; Anhydrite floor max. 0.5 CM (weight)%, with underfloor heating 0.3% CM; Always aim for the lowest values! If necessary, level with appropriate filler or compound according to manufacturer’s specifications. Do not remove subfloor edge insulation until levelling and priming has been completed. - Testing for evenness: According to DIN 18 365 (surface evenness tolerances according to DIN 18 202). Follow the instructions of the filler manufacturer. Important: Before levelling with filler or compound, it is essential to remove excess or loose quartz sand with a disk sander and then vacuum with an industrial vacuum cleaner. Anhydrite floors always require sanding or brushing and subsequent vacuuming. Wood subfloors must be solidly fastened; nail or screw loose boards, if necessary—the floor must not sag. - Surface strength: Use grid scratch test. Do a test panel before gluing down Celenio. Completely remove all loose parts, deleterious substances and nonwaterproof paints and primers, and make sure the floor is absolutely clean. - Daily joints: Daily joints in the subfloor (pseudo-joints or predetermined breaking points) must be locked before installation. DO NOT close any expansion joints. Measures to take before installation Store and climatise the cartons inside. New constructions to be closed in with air conditioning or heating units during the winter months. Recommended room conditions for installation are 18 °C (65 °F). This high-grade engineered and dried product should not be stored in new constructions. - Acclimate Celenio to the jobsite in the unopened cartons for at least 48 to 72 hours. - The ideal room conditions for installation are between 18° C and 22° C (64° F and 72° F) with a relative air humidity of 40% to 65% prevailing in the room for at least 5 days prior to installation. Important: Prior to installation, inspect the boards in daylight for any visible faults or damage and also check colour and texture. No claims are accepted once flooring boards have been installed. When installing, mix Celenio boards from different cartons. Colour changes may occur from exposure to light; Before starting installation, decide the best direction to lay Celenio based on the surface texture. Glue-down installation Do not glue down if ambient temperature is below 18° C (64° F). To avoid a high relative air humidity in the room (such as in new constructions), heat the room if necessary and ventilate thoroughly. The relative air humidity should range between 40% and 65% and the subfloor temperature should be between 16° C and 22° C (61° F and 72° F). approx. 1000 – 1200 g/m². Apply with the notched Special Spreader L with 5.5 mm deep notches which is included in the range of accessories. We recommend that you keep Celenio in the original cartons until immediately before glue-down.. Also follow the instructions of the adhesive manufacturer. Wait about 24 hours after installation before first use; Heavy traffic or loads only after about 72 hours. Recommendation: The information given here is based on experience and serves to advise the person doing the laying. We can supply only general indications since the proper workmanship is not under our control. Make a gluing test before installing the floor or, if you are uncertain, ask a professional installer to lay your floor. Grouting the floor - Allow the Celenio Special Glue to cure completely before grouting. - Clean the joints thoroughly. - Do not grout expansion joints (5 - 10 mm). Cover them, for example, with adhesive tape before grouting. - The required amount of Celenio Special Grout depends on the joint width. Please observe the directions on the bag. - When cleaning the floor surface take care not to get too much water into the joints. Caulking expansion joints and control joints - Joints that are subject to mechanical movement need to be filled with permanently elastic silicone caulk. This silicone caulk is available in a wide range of colours. - Remove glue residue and dirt from the joints immediately. - Cut off the tip of the silicone caulking gun according to the width of the expansion joint. Apply silicone caulk evenly into the joint with the caulking gun. - Smooth out the fresh silicone caulk with the fingertip or a putty knife and a few drops of dishwashing detergent diluted in water. Celenio over underfloor heating If the following instructions are observed, Celenio glues down easily over underfloor heating systems without problems. Celenio has a favourable thermal resistance (1/λ=0.024 m² K/W) for an economically efficient running of the heating system: Due to the natural foot warmth of the floor, the underfloor heating system can be switched off more readily than with ceramic floors, even during transition periods. And with Celenio over underfloor heating systems, a uniform surface temperature is attained besides (max. surface temperature 25°C/ 77°F). Preparatory measures with newly installed underfloor heating systems: - The subfloor must be laid professionally as per German Standard DIN 18 353. In this regard, also comply with the instructions for heated floor constructions issued by the Central Association of the German Construction Industry. The curing time before starting the preparatory heat-up phase which makes the subfloor ready for laying the floor covering is generally at least 28 days for cement floors and at least 14 days for anhydrite floors. The subfloor is ready for laying the floor covering when the CM measurement shows a moisture value of 1.8 CM % for cement floor and 0.3 CM % for anhydrite floor. Locking of pseudo-joints and cracks in the subfloor by means of two-component artificial resin is imperative for glue-down installation of the floor covering. Expansion joints provided by the heating manufacturer must be taken over in the floor covering as well. - During the preparatory heat-up phase for laying the floor covering, raise the flow pipe temperature by 10°C (50°F) each day, starting from 25°C (77°F). Increase the temperature until the maximum heating temperature of 55°C (131°F) – or the system maximum if less than 55°C – is reached. Do not lower the temperature during the night! - Heat for 11 days without interruption at the maximum system temperature or at 55° C (131° F), respectively; do not lower the temperature during the night. - Reduce heat by 10° C (50 °F) daily until temperature drops to 25° C (77° F) (still do not lower the temperature during the night). - Now test the subfloor for moisture by using a CM measuring instrument. The measurements must be taken at the designated measuring points. If this test shows that the subfloor is not yet ready for laying the floor covering, continue heating at a flow temperature of about 40° C (104° F) until the subfloor has the limit moisture content required for installation. Preparatory measures with newly installed underfloor heating systems: With warm-water type underfloor heating systems that have already been in use for several heating seasons, we recommend—before installing the floor covering—to raise the flow temperature to 45° C (113° F) and maintain this temperature for one week without interruption, and then reduce the temperature again to 25° C (77° F). Please note: Covering the Celenio floor surface with carpeting may raise the heat transfer resistance and cause an accumulation of heat.As it is impossible to take into account the entire vast range of underfloor heating system products, please address any inquiries to our authorised dealer or to the manufacturer of your underfloor heating system. Care Instructions for Celenio Dry cleaning It is generally sufficient to clean Celenio dry using a mop, soft broom or vacuum cleaner. For especially effective dry cleaning we recommend our special HARO Easy Clean cleaning cloth.Heel streaks or grease stains can be removed with HARO Stain Remover or acetone. Damp cleaning We recommend that you regularly damp mop your Celenio floor with diluted Celenio Basic Cleaner, according to how dirty the floor is and wear and tear. Add approx 150 ml (approx. 3/4 cup) of the floor cleaner to 8 -10 litres of water (1 bucket). Then wipe the surface damp with a well wrung out cloth. By buffing the treated surface dry with a HARO Polishing Cloth you give the Celenio surface an even shine. Please note: Do not use soap-based detergents, abrasive cleaners, scouring powder, steel wool or wax for cleaning and maintenance. Always avoid letting water stand on the laminate floor surface. Warning note: Steam cleaning machines are not suitable for cleaning Celenio. Room climate - The conditions specified above must be maintained for at least another 5 days after the floor covering has been installed. In order to maintain the quality and beauty of Celenio, but also for your own personal well being, an indoor climate of approx. 50% -60 % relative air humidity is necessary with a room temperature of approx. 20º C. In order to keep the air humidity constant, especially during hot periods, we recommend you use a humidifier. This will prevent any extreme drying out of the floor. It is advisable to use an electric humidifier right from the beginning of the heating period. - The underfloor heating can now be run during the heating season. Additional preventive protection Important: Failure to comply with the ” Preparatory measures ... ” given in this ” Underfloor Heating ” section will void the manufacturer’s warranty for the product. We cannot assume any liability unless the heat-up record is properly filled out and signed! To preserve the quality and beauty of your floor we recommend using protective pads under chairs and furniture legs. The castors of armchairs and office chairs must comply with German Standard DIN 68 131. Use only lined rollers of type W (soft). It is also a good idea to use polycarbonate mats as underlay for armchairs and office chairs. - You can now install your HARO Quality Flooring: Observe the above laying instructions: The surface temperature of the subfloor during installation must be at least 16° C (64° F) and the relative air humidity must be < 40–65%. 03/06 Subject to modification in the interest of technical development. Laying instructions for Celenio with glue-down installation Attention: Read thoroughly from beginning to end before installation! Please always comply with the installation instructions that are enclosed with the cartons. The accompanying instructions are binding! 햲 Installing Celenio in the room Check the room layout before you start to instsall Celenio. In rectangular rooms, snap one chalk line down the centre of the room and one chalk line parallel to the wall, at a right angle to the first chalk line. Align the first row of Celenio with the chalk line. At the point of intersection of the two chalk lines, start either with a joint or with the tile centre. The joints between the Celenio tiles may be 3 to 8 mm wide. Choose the joint width you want to use before starting installation and maintain this width throughout the installation. To ensure even joints, we recommend using suitable tile spacers. Leave an expansion space of min. 10 mm around perimeter. 햶 The next Celenio rows are laid along the centred chalk line. 햺 If a grout haze has remained on the surface, wait one day before wiping it off with hot water and a microfibre cloth; to remove strong grout haze, use Celenio Clear Finish (follow instructions on label). Any grout residue must be removed completely. 햳 Glue-down installation of Celenio Apply the Celenio Glue to the floor. Work in sections, starting from the chalk line. Always ensure 100% adhesive coverage. The best way to spread the adhesive is to use a special spreader L (5.5 mm notches). Please observe the open time of the adhesive (the time during which the adhesive can be used). Only apply adhesive for the area you can install before the adhesive starts to set or dry. 햷 When installing Celenio in adjoining rooms ensure continuous, uninterrupted tile joints. Provide joints/expansion joints exactly under the door leaves; also, observe expansion joints provided in the subfloor. Expansion joints in the subfloor must be maintained in the floor covering as well. When installing the floor covering in rooms measuring over 10 m in length or width, you need to leave an expansion gap of at least 5 mm. Seal the expansion gap with a colour-matched silicone caulk. 햻 Celenio skirting To install Celenio as a tile skirting, you can use construction adhesive which is available as a glue gun. Gypsum plaster residue or old loose paint or plaster need to be removed from the skirting area. Touch up the surface to be adhered to, if necessary. 햴 Lay the Celenio tile into the wet adhesive and press on. This spreads the adhesive evenly across the back of the tile. Align the first row of Celenio with the chalk line. For exact alignment of the joints, you can insert tile spacers between the Celenio tiles which you can remove after installation (do not bring into contact with the adhesive). Important: Remove adhesive stains on the floor covering immediately with methylated spirit. 햸 Grouting of Celenio Before grouting, dampen up to 1.5m² of the area to be grouted with a slightly damp viscose sponge. Take ready-to-use grout from the container and grout the 1 - 1.5 m² large dampened area with the Celenio rubber margin trowel. 햵 At least 90% of the tile back should be covered by adhesive. To be sure, lift a tile to check adhesive coverage while the adhesive is still wet. Then reinstall the tile with fresh adhesive. 햹 Moisten any excess grout material with a slightly damp viscose grout float in a circular motion. Immediately after grouting, wipe the area diagonally with a well-wrung Celenio viscose sponge (use clean, hot water). Repeat this process several times. After taking up excess grout, smooth out the joint with the slightly damp Celenio viscose sponge / grout float.
