À l'affiche / What's on DECEMBER 2014 in and around La Roche-Canillac N° 27 THURSDAY 30th DECEMBER Torch-lit walk and New Year celebraton Meet at 5pm at the Mille Club We will meet at the Mille Club, walk with torches to look at various Christmas decoratons in La Roche and La Roche Basse and fnish with a mulled wine and small eats at the Mille Club. The pencil drawing we chose for December is dated 21 st August 1940 and represents a barn in Roche Haussiere. Do you recognise this barn ? Thanks to Josete Bello, we have learnt that this and the November drawing were the works of Mr de Benzion; he was the father-in-law of Dr. Carvailho who lived avenue de Beaufort (now the Palades’ house). During the second world war Mr and Mrs de Benzion took refuge at the hotel Tournadre (now La Clauzure). DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL The 17th internatonal festval of documentaries on rural life (Caméras des Champs) will take place from 28th to 31th May 2015 in Ville-sur-Yron (Meurthe etMosellle). In additon to a a competton for the best documentary, there will be various debates, a reading and image workshop, conferences and evening viewings. The Champs d’Espoir price will reward the best documentary concerning any aspect of rural life such as new life journeys, new ways of improving the rural environment,social life, culture, etc. Applicaton deadline : 18th January 2015. To download regulatons : village.groupejmg.fr Everyone welcome but please bring a small contributon (biscuits, sweet or savoury canapés….) Torches and lanterns will be for sale on the day (2€ and 1€ respectvely) so make sure you bring a litle cash if you do not have your own lights. This will take place on 5th and 6th December. In Argentat : numerous events (see www.tourisme-argentat.com); in Servières-le-Château, “belote” competton on Saturday at 8.30pm. Proceeds from contributons (8€) will go to the Telethon. PRIX DES LECTEURS CORRÉZIENS For the second year in a row, the Seilhac Mediathèque is asking the public to partcipate in the selecton process for the Correzien Writers’ Price. From November to March you can borrow from your library the seven books listed below and make a pre-selecton of your three favourite ttles. From April to May the three most chosen ttles will be submited to readers for a further selecton. The winner will be announced in June and in September the winning author will be invited to meet with readers. Nom local : Cardi, Cardinot MISTLE THRUSH – turdus viscivorus. Local namel : tria Size : 26cm. The mistle thrush is bigger than a blackbird. It has a brownish-grey back, a white belly doted with dark roundish spots, a white area under the wings and white corners on the tail feathers. The mistle thrush is a partal migrator and you can watch it all year around. It lives in woods, on the edge of forests, in bushes and clearings, in gardens and orchards. lt feeds on molluscs, insects and spiders found in felds and clearings as well as on fruit and berries (in partcular those of the mistletoe from which it scaters the seeds its scientfc name means : mistletoe scaterer)). Peculiarites: the mistle thrush sings even in bad weather. It can scare of cats and birds of prey but remains suspicious of human beings. In La Roche you can fnd it at the Etang de Laborde, in Lavergne and in the village centre. Recipe : Christmas ginger biscuits Ingredients (serves 8) : 125g cane syrup, 75g caster sugar, 80g buter, 250g plain four, 1-1/2 teaspoons of gingerbread spices*, one egg, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder.. Preparaton : Prepare the dough on the day before : place a saucepan in a bainmarie and mix together the syrup, the sugar and the buter. Remove from the stove and add the spices, the egg and the four mixed with the baking powder. Mix thoroughly. Cover and set aside. Next day, roll out the dough - not too thinly. Cut out shapes (hearts, men, christmas trees etc…). If large shapes, makes 8 pieces; if small shapes, about 30. Place on a tray in the oven (200C) and cook for 10 minutes. If you chose to make ginger men, you can make eyes and litle butons with dried fruit which you push into the dough before cooking. You can also decorate the shapes afer cooking. Before you cook the biscuits, make a hole with a big straw (far enough from the edge) so that you can hang them from the tree as a garland or single decoraton.
