JOINT PRESS RELEASE
On August 15th 2015, Assumption Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Heaven, a moment of common
prayer between Muslims and Catholics will be held at the “Madonnetta” Sanctuary, Genova, Italy in order to beseech a new climate of respect and mutual cooperation between the two religious confessions.
This inter-religious function will be included in the traditional dawn vigil “AWAITING MARY 2015” starting
at 05:00 AM (04:30 for TV watchers) CET.
It will be attended by Cheikh Mohamad NOKKARI, coming on purpose from Beirut, Lebanon, who gladly accepted the invitation that the “Madonnetta” Augustinian Disc. Friars addressed to him on June 22nd.
Father Eugenio CAVALLARI OAD, Rector of the Sanctuary, is highly honoured and grateful for Cheikh
NOKKARI’s acceptance, who is judge and full time Law Professor at the Universities of Saint Joseph and
Notre-Dame de Louizé. In Lebanon he is a fervid promoter of inter-religious dialogue based upon his firm
belief that “...only Mary can possibly gather Christians and Muslims”.
For this reason, since the early 2000’s, he personally inspired the choice of the feast of the Annunciation of Mary, on March 25th, as an ‘islamo-christian public holiday in Lebanon’.
This date coincides -very surprizingly- not only with the day of the first consecration of Genova and of
the Republic of Genova to Mary (March 25th, 1637) but also with the one of the first stroke of pickaxe at
the beginning of the building of the Sanctuary, on March 25th, 1695.
Finally it must be mentioned the fact that Mary -while appearing to the Founder, the Discalced Augustinian Friar Ven. Father Carlo Giacinto Sanguineti-, promised to him that She would have been
“specially present” in Her sanctuary from dawn, on Aug. 15th each year until the end of the world.
The yearly devotion to welcome Mary with the dawn vigil -discontinued since WW II- has been reinstated
in 2012 and is attracting an increasing number of believers.
This year the appreciated presence of Cheikh Mohamad NOKKARI broadens the meaning of this
celebration, enhancing Mary’s motherly function, as the mother of unity between all cultures and religions
of the world, introducing a new future of peace and cooperation between peoples members of the two
religious confessions.
The event will be live-covered and televised on web-streaming, as well as on Eutelsat in full HD for any
SAT or DT TV station interested in carrying the live production of the event.

COMUNICATO STAMPA CONGIUNTO
Il 15 Agosto 2015, festa dell’Assunzione della Beata Vergine Maria in Cielo, avrà luogo nel Santuario
della Madonnetta, Genova, Italia un momento di preghiera comune fra Musulmani e Cattolici, per
implorare un nuovo clima di rispetto e mutua cooperazione fra le due confessioni religiose.
Questa funzione inter-religiosa si inserirà nella tradizionale veglia “ATTENDENDO MARIA 2015”, che
inizierà alle ore 05:00 mattutine (alle 04:30 per chi segue la diretta in TV) ora italiana.
Ad essa parteciperà lo Sceicco Mohamad NOKKARI, che viene appositamente da Beirut, Libano,
avendo accolto molto volentieri l’invito rivoltogli il 22 Giugno u.s. dalla comunità dei Padri Agostiniani
Scalzi del Santuario della Madonnetta.
P. Eugenio Cavallari, rettore del Santuario, è molto onorato e grato per l’accettazione dell’invito del
Leader religioso musulmano, il quale è giudice e titolare della cattedra di Diritto alle Università Saint
Joseph e Notre-Dame de Louizé. Egli in Libano è un fervido promotore del dialogo inter-religioso, basato
su una sua ferma convinzione: “soltanto Maria può riunire Cristiani e Musulmani”.
Per questo egli, fin dai primi anni 2000, ha personalmente ispirato la scelta del 25 Marzo, data della
Annunciazione di Maria, come ‘festa pubblica del dialogo islamo-cristiano’ in Libano.
Questa data coincide in modo sorprendente con il giorno della prima consacrazione di Genova e della
Repubblica genovese a Maria (25 Marzo 1637), nonché con l’inizio dei lavori del Santuario della
Madonnetta (25 Marzo 1695). Infine occorre tener presente che Maria, apparendo al Ven. P. Giacinto
Sanguineti, Agostiniano Scalzo fondatore del Santuario, gli promise che sarebbe stata particolarmente
presente nel suo Santuario ogni anno, dall’alba del 15 Agosto. La tradizione annuale di accogliere Maria
con la veglia dell’aurora, interrotta con la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, è stata ripristinata nel 2012 con
notevole afflusso di fedeli.
Quest’anno la gradita presenza dello Sceicco Mohamad Nokkari allarga il significato della celebrazione, esaltando la funzione materna di Maria, madre di unità fra tutte le culture e religioni del mondo, inaugurando un nuovo futuro di pace e collaborazione fra i popoli appartenenti alla due confessioni religiose.

Le 15 Août 2015, 'Assomption de la Bienheureuse Vierge Marie au Ciel, dans le Sanctuaire “Madonnetta”, Genova, Italie, il y aura un moment de prière commune entre Musulmans et Catholiques pour
implorer un nouveau climat de respect et coopération mutuelle entre les deux confessions religieuses.
Cette fonction inter-religieuse sera insérée dans la traditionnelle veille de l'aube “ATTENDANT MARIE
2015” qui commencera a 05h00 du matin du 15 Août (a compter de 04h30 en directe TV), heure italienne.
A cette fonction participera le Scheik Mohamad NOKKARI, venant exprès de Beyrouth, Liban, ayant
accueillit très volontiers l'invitation lui étant adressé le 22 Juin dernier par la communauté des Pères
Augustiniens Déchausses du Sanctuaire “Madonnetta”.
Le Père Eugenio CAVALLARI OAD, Recteur du Sanctuaire est très honoré et gré pour l'acceptation de
cette invitation de la part du Scheik NOKKARI qui est juge et professeur de Droit à l'Université Saint
Joseph et Notre-Dame de Louizé. Au Liban il est fervent promoteur du dialogue inter-religieux reposant
sur sa ferme conviction que “…il n'y a que Marie qui puisse réunir Chrétiens et Musulmans… ».
Pour cette raison, de le début des années 2000, il a personnellement inspiré le choix du 25 Mars, fête de
l'Annonciation de Marie, comme 'fête chômée du dialogue islamo-chrétien' au Liban.
Cette date coïncide d'une façon surprenante avec la première consécration de Genova et de la
République de Genova a Marie (25 Mars 1637) aussi bien qu'avec le début de la construction du
Sanctuaire « Madonnetta » (25 Mars 1695).
Et finalement il faut se souvenir que Marie -en apparaissant au Ven. Père Carlo Giacinto Sanguineti,
Augustinien Déchausse, fondateur du Sanctuaire- lui promit qu'Elle aurait été « spécialement présente
» dans son sanctuaire le 15 Août de chaque année, jusqu'à la fin du monde. La dévotion annuelle
d'accueillir Marie avec la veille de l'aube qui c'etait interrompue depuis la 2me Guerre Mondiale, a été reétablie en 2012 avec une participation toujours croissante de fidèles.
Cette année la présence très appréciée du Scheik Mohamad NOKKARI élargit le sens de la
célébration, en exaltant la fonction maternelle de Marie, mère d'unité entre toutes les cultures et religions
du monde, en instaurant un nouveau future de paix et collaboration entre les peuples appartenant aux
deux confessions religieuses.
L'évènement sera diffusé en directe par web-streaming, mais aussi sur Eutelsat en “full HD” afin que
toutes stations TV intéressés puissent re-émettre le programme en SAT, DT ou WEB TV.
