Projet
Touched by the mind of the poet
« Passe le temps, s'enfuit le monde
Depuis cent ans coule mon onde. »
Ce poème lu sur une fontaine de la ville de Sierre
est à l'origine du projet développé par l'artiste
durant sa résidence. Conçu comme d'autres travaux
antérieurs en relation étroite avec l'environnement,
Touched by the mind of the poet mêle étroitement
les valeurs du passé et du présent en associant et
en recombinant différents éléments tirés de l'espace
urbain.
Le projet se compose de trois parties qui dépendent
les unes des autres :
1. des affiches imprimées manuellement et
accrochées dans différents endroits de la ville ;
2. une intervention de trois jours sur l'Avenue
principale de Sierre avec le lancement et la vente de
divers «accessoires poétiques» confectionnés par
l'artiste : films DVD, CD, puzzle ;
3. une soirée poétique organisée à l'Hôtel
Terminus.
Toutes ces interventions dans l'espace public
avaient pour objet une analyse du poétique par le
biais de l'ironie et du jeu contextuel. L'homme à la
chemise blanche et à la cravate jaune représenté
sur l'affiche est assis dans une posture méditative
au milieu du passage d'un garage souterrain ; le
stand proposant des accessoires poétiques côtoie
d'autres stands installés à l'occasion d'un marché
de fruits et de légumes ; la soirée poétique est enfin
annoncée comme une lecture de poème, alors que
l'artiste ne parle pas français. Plus encore que par
les mots, l'artiste invite l'assistance à goûter de la
saveur de l'art poétique en mangeant des gâteaux
au chocolat, au fromage ou au sésame qu'il a luimême confectionnés.
Le travail de l'artiste a été présenté à Sierre du 26
au 30 avril 2004.

« Ever since I started my work I have tried to avoid
'white cube' galleries, intuitively feeling the need to
search for unique spaces for my work. Throughout
my work I have explored not only the space and
architectural structure which I frequently use as
the source of my inspiration, but also the way of
putting a piece in the social space in which it can be
experienced and established as art.
I have always tried to analyze the way art is
presented. I was acutely aware of being in a
defined, exclusive space whose context played a
crucial role in how I convey the meaning of my
pieces.
Each time I work on a piece there is a reemerging
problem of empty or open space which is later filled
by the presence of viewers for whom it was created.
Context, just like width, length, height and time
is one of the dimensions that define the physical
space of the artwork.
I am interested in intensifying relationship in
ever changing surroundings, collaboration,
building of new relations and learning new skills.
The techniques and media that I use are always
changing. While I construct architectural spaces, I
use objects, light, sound, photography and video
depending on the need and technical possibilities. »
