Finally, spring is here. This last winter was one of the most
rigorous seasons I can remember. As the new season brings
life back to nature, IPA Canada is also in need of new life and
ideas. As we approach the Annual General meeting (AGM)
in Victoria in May 2014, I would like all qualified members to consider becoming a
volunteer for three new positions that would greatly help your NEB, all regions and
all members of IPA Canada.

Yes we need a Recruiting officer, a Communications officer and an Assistant Webmaster at the National level. I would like all regions to discuss this request within
their executive and try to identify members able to fill these new positions before
the next AGM in May. These appointments and pertinent duties will be discussed
at the next AGM and I would like to hear from each delegate on our head hunting
mission. We need new blood and new ideas, let’s work together to make these
positions a reality for IPA Canada. See you in Victoria.

Enfin le printemps est arrivé. L’hiver qui s’achève fut un des plus difficiles que nous
avons vécu. Comme le printemps ramène la nature à la vie, IPA Canada a aussi
besoin de sang nouveau et des nouvelles idées. À l’approche de notre prochaine
assemblée générale annuelle (AGA) en mai à Victoria, j’aimerais inviter tout
membre qualifié à devenir bénévole pour une de trois nouvelles positions qui aideront votre Exécutif national, les régions et tous les membres d’IPA Canada.
Oui, nous avons grandement besoin d’un officier responsable du recrutement et
des communications au niveau canadien ainsi que d’un assistant au webmaster pour
le site national. J’aimerais que chaque exécutif régional regarde dans ses rangs et
approche les membres qualifiés pour de telles fonctions. Nous discuterons de ces
nouveaux postes et des fonctions inhérentes à notre prochaine AGA. Nous avons
besoin de combler ces postes avec des gens capables et porteurs de nouvelles
idées. Travaillons ensemble afin de rendre notre association meilleure pour tous
en comblant ces nouveaux postes pour IPA Canada. À bientôt à Victoria.

A visit to Paris for IPA France’s 60th Anniversary

In September I had the pleasure of taking part in the 60th Anniversary celebrations of
International Police Association (IPA) France, held in Paris. Our hosts planned a wide
range of activities, which highlighted the unique treasures available in one of Europe’s
most popular and romantic cities. Each day offered a new glimpse into French history.
Our visit to the Champagne region, located in the northeast of France, near the historic
city of Reims started the exciting week-long Friendship Week.
Champagne House owner Bernard Launois has assembled a magnificent collection of champagne related
memorabilia, displayed artfully in the cellars and buildings of their family run business.
Our tour of the Champagne House of Launois Pere and Fils, established in 1872 in the small village of Le
Mesnil sur Oger, on the Cotes des Blanc, offered pleasures of French cuisine and numerous varieties of
Champagne enjoyed at a breathtaking Chateau.
Tracy, my companion and I sat with our Canadian brothers and sisters from Region 15 in Monteregie,
Quebec and Lech and Monique also from Region 2.
A line by Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz movie captures the feeling I experienced on this day.
“I shouldn’t look any farther than my own back yard,” says Dorothy.
Meaning, I travelled 4,000 miles to enjoy the company of new friends that are neighbours in my own country and only a few hours from my own front door.
Thank you Christian and Madeleine Parent, Robert Derome and Nancy Letourneau, Jean-Louis and Francine Cabana, Michel and Johanne Pinchaud, along with my Region 2 friends Lech and Monique, for making
this trip even more memorable.
Day three included a trip to the Chateau de Breteuil, lunch at the France Miniature, showing France, its
regions and monuments in miniature.
The champagne continued to flow that evening at Moulin Rouge, as we watched a beautifully choreographed performance complete with glittered and feathered femme fatales.
A side trip to the Eiffel Tower rendered visitors breathless, as the outline of the structure, at the stroke of
midnight, suddenly glowed from the light of thousands of bright lights. An audible gasp from the crowd tells
me it made a lasting impression.
Certainly another highlight was on Day four, the tour
of the Chateau de Chantilly. This residence full of
opulence was built over the 14th through 19th centuries for the Orgemont, Montmorency, BourbonConde and Orleans families. It now houses an art
gallery, museum, library and showcases grand quarters and apartments of the latter day French aristocracy.
It was here that Chef prepared the world famous
Chantilly cream, a delight enjoyed by all!
This friendship week was not without its somber moments as we participated in the “Rekindling of the
flame” at the Arc de Triumph.

President Pierre-Martin Moulin and IPA France President France’s Unknown Soldier. Since that time each and
Rose Lourme marching along the Champs-Elysees to the every evening at 18:30 there is a ceremony to honour those who have given their lives for France.

A couple of us in the Canadian legation wore our
uniforms and joined other IPA uniformed members
from France, Monaco, Belgium, Russia, Ukraine and Switzerland to name but a few.
Tragically in February 2013, two Paris police officers, Cyrille Genest and Boris Voekel, lost their lives on
duty and the assembled International contingent of IPA members took this opportunity to recognize their
ultimate sacrifice.

On Thursday the Gala evening was held cruising the Seine, complete with a Cancan Show. The merriment,
fueled by the free-flowing champagne, included one or two of our good-natured IPA members who joined
the young ladies in entertaining guests.
All friendship weeks end with sad farewells to new friends and this one was no exception. There was the
exchange of addresses and presents, the promises of visits and staying in touch.
IPA France truly lived our motto “Service Through Friendship”.

Une visite à Paris pour le 60ème anniversaire de l' IPA France
En Septembre , j'ai eu le plaisir de participer aux célébrations du 60e anniversaire de l'Association internationale de police (IPA ) France, qui s'est tenue à Paris . Nos hôtes ont prévu une large gamme d'activités,
qui met en évidence les trésors uniques disponibles dans l'une des villes les plus populaires et les plus romantiques d'Europe. Chaque jour, de nous offrir un nouveau regard sur l'histoire française.
Notre visite dans la région de Champagne, situé dans le nord-est de la France, près de la ville historique de
Reims a commencé avec la semaine de l’amitié. Semaine, des plus passionnantes.
M. Bernard Launois, propriétaire de la Maison de Champagne a rassemblé une magnifique collection de
champagne étiqueté, souvenirs. Affiché astucieusement dans les caves et les bâtiments de leur entreprise
familiale.
Notre visite de la Maison de Champagne de Launois Père et Fils, créée en 1872 dans le petit village d'Oger
de Le Mesnil, sur la Côte-des- Blanc, nous ont offert les plaisirs, de la cuisine française et de nombreuses
variétés de Champagne apprécié et un château à couper le souffle.
Ma conjointe Tracy et moi-même, avons partagé cette merveilleuse visite avec nos frères et sœurs IPA du
Canada. De la région 15 en Montérégie, au Québec et Lech et Monique aussi de la Région 2.
Une ligne de Dorothy dans le film Le Magicien d' Oz démontre bien le sentiment que j'ai vécu ce jour-là.
" Je ne devrais pas regarder plus loin que ma propre arrière-cour », dit Dorothy.
Je veux dire que j'ai voyagé 4,000 miles pour profiter de la compagnie de nouveaux amis qui sont voisins

Trois jours de visites, au château de Breteuil, le déjeuner à la France Miniature, montrant la France, ses

Le champagne a continué à couler dans la soirée au Moulin Rouge, ou nous avons admiré un spectacle magnifiquement chorégraphiée avec femme pailleté et plumes fatales.
Une visite à la Tour Eiffel. À couper le souffle de ses visiteurs, comme le contour de la structure, qui sur le
coup de minuit, brillait de milliers de lumières. La réaction de la foule me dit que le spectacle a fait bonne
impression.
Certes, un autre point fort du voyage était le quatrième jour. La visite du château de Chantilly. Cette résidence pleine d'opulence a été construite du 14ème au 19 ème siècles les familles Orgemont, Montmorency, Bourbon- Condé et Orléans. Ce Château abrite aujourd'hui une galerie d'art, un musé, une bibliothèque et met en valeur les grands quartiers et les appartements de l'aristocratie française de ces siècles.
C'est dans ce Chateau que le chef prépare la crème Chantilly de renommée mondiale, un délice apprécié
par tous !
Cette semaine de l'amitié ne pouvait se terminée, sans ses moments sombres auquel nous avons participé.
La " Relance de la flamme " à l'Arc de Triomphe à la mémoire des agents mort en devoir.
Le 11 Novembre 1923, la flamme éternelle sous l'Arc de Triomphe a été allumée pour la première fois à
l'honneur de soldat inconnu de la France. Depuis ce temps, chaque soir à 18h30, se déroule une cérémonie
pour honorer ceux qui ont donné leur vie pour la France.
Plusieurs d'entre nous de la délégation canadienne portait fièrement l’uniforme, au cotés, des membres en
uniforme de l'IAP de la France, Monaco, la Belgique, la Russie, l'Ukraine et la Suisse et plusieurs autres.
Tragiquement en Février 2013, deux agents de police de Paris, Cyrille Genest et Boris Voekel, ont perdu la
vie en service et le contingent international de l'IPA ont saisi cette occasion pour reconnaître leur sacrifice
ultime en cette journée.
Le jeudi soir le gala a eu lieu sur un bateau mouche sur la Seine, avec un spectacle de french Cancan. La
gaieté, alimentée par le champagne qui coulait à flot. Un ou deux membres IPA, ont participé avec les
jeunes filles pour amuser les invités.
Les semaines d'amitié se terminent toujours par tristes adieux à de nouveaux amis et celui-ci n'a pas fait
exception. Les échange d’adresses courriels et cadeaux, se terminent par les promesses de visites et rester
en contact.
IPA France vivait vraiment notre devise ‘ Servo per Amikeco’.

As the snow blows outside this den window, I,
along with many others, wish that Spring was
here. With it, thoughts of travelling come to
mind, and this time, it is indeed, to Bonnie Bonnie
Scotland they go.
Alors que la neige souffle en dehors de cette fenêtre
du cabinet de travail, je désire comme tant d’autres
que le printemps soit ici. Accompagnant cela, les pensées de voyager me viennent à l’esprit, et cette foisci, c’est en effet, à Bonnie Bonnie Écosse qu’elles
vont.
La terre de beaucoup d’esprit intenses, d’âmes audacieuses, et de paysages magnifiques, nous le signalent
à nous tous. S’il vous arrive d’être des golfeurs
avides, et désireriez voir un pays tant soit peu pareil
comme le nôtre, alors ma suggestion serait? ALLEZ
LÀ!! Il y a depuis tout récemment un nouvel hébergement d’IPA à même le « Kingdom of Fife »; localisé
dans ce coin de pays, dans le cœur du « East Neuk »,
seulement à 2 milles de la ville côtière d’Anstruther
et à presque 7 milles du fameux terrain de golf de St.
Andrews. Et si ce n’était pas assez à voir, ajoutez-y
les anciens ports, et les plages qui ont gagné des récompenses, tous à l’intérieur de 10 milles de voiturage.
Si l’histoire est une de vos amours, il y a le château
Kellie à un mille de la maison IPA, la colline de la maison Tarvit Mansion, en plus du « Royal Palace » à
Falkand. Pour ceux qui aiment la nature et plus particulièrement la vie sauvage, les sanctuaires et les réserves naturelles sont là pour vous à visiter. Vous
adorez les oiseaux de mer? Alors dirigez vous vers
Anstruther, de là, durant la plupart de l’année, des
bateaux quotidiennement vous amèneront sur l’île de
May reconnue pour ses colonies de Fratercula, Fulmars, Cormorants, Seals et Phocoenides.

de Tom CROZIER, couramment le président de la

The land of many inventive geniuses, hardy souls,
and beautiful scenery, beckons all. If you happen
to be an avid golfer, and would wish to see countryside somewhat similar to our own, then my
suggestion is? GO THERE!! There is a fairly new
IPA accommodation within the Kingdom of Fife;
situated amid open countryside, in the heart of
the East Neuk, only 2 miles from the lovely
coastal town of Anstruther and a mere 7 miles
from the world famous St. Andrews Golf Course.
As if all that were not enough to see, add some
ancient harbours, and award winning beaches, all
within a 10 mile drive.
If history is a love of yours, cathedral ruins in St.
Andrews, Kellie Castle but one mile from the IPA
house, the Hill of Tarvit Mansion House, plus the
Royal Palace at Falkland. For those who love nature and in particular wild life, sanctuaries and
nature reserves are yours for the visiting!! Adore
sea birds? Then head for Anstruther, from where,
most of the year, daily boat trips will take you to
the Isle of May renowned for it’s colony of puffins, fulmars, cormorants, seals and porpoises.

As for the amenities? Here goes!! There is a lounge/
dining area, TV, kitchen with double oven, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, freezer and microwave,
bathroom, private parking. Linen and towels provided. Two bedrooms sleep up to 5 persons; one double bed, one double zip and link can make two single
beds, plus 1 single bed. The property includes outside space, and garden seating is provided.
As you can see by the outside view, it is in a rural
setting; 5 minutes to the nearest beach, (The sea can
be seen in the outside picture); sea fishing; water
sports in the summer.
I could go on with further details but, to see for
yourself, go on line, type in IPA Scotland and scroll
to accommodations. Apart from all this that I have
written about, there is no doubt that the Scottish
hospitality that awaits you is superb. While I have
never yet visited Scotland, I have several friends
there, some of whom I have met during visits to
Canada, and despite their claimed “Canny thrift”,
they are, actually generous to a fault.

Concernant les commodités? Les voici!! Il y a une
pièce salon/salle à manger, téléviseur, cuisine avec
cuisinière double, laveuse, lave vaisselle, réfrigérateur, congélateur et microonde, salle de bain, stationnement privé. Lingerie et serviettes fournis.
Deux chambres à coucher qui peuvent coucher 5
personnes; un lit double, un lit double qui se zippe
et qui se relit peu faire deux lits simples, en plus
d’un lit simple. La propriété inclus de l’espace à l’extérieur et un endroit pour s’asseoir est pourvu devant un jardin. Comme vous pouvez voir grâce à la
vue extérieure, c’est dans un environnement rural; à
5 minutes jusqu’à la plus proche plage, (La mer peut
être vue dans l’image de l’extérieur); pêche à la mer,
sports aquatiques l’été.
Je pourrais continuer avec plus de détails mais, pour
le voir par vous-même, allez en ligne, dactylographiez pour « IPA Scotland « et chercher jusqu’à
« accommodations ». À part tout ce que j’ai écrit à
ce sujet, il y a sans doute cette hospitalité écossaise
qui vous attend qui est superbe. Même si je n’ai jamais encore visité l’Écosse, j’ai plusieurs amis qui
sont là, quelques uns que j’ai rencontrés durant
leurs visites au Canada, et malgré être reconnus
comme étant « Canny thrift » (jovial et avec un fort
caractère), ils sont actuellement beaucoup plus généreux que ça.

Informations supplémentaires de région 16
I am an IPA Region 16 member from Nova Scotia. Just wanted to mention, that my wife and I spent 3
weeks at the Scotland IPA House last September. It is located in a beautiful rural setting surrounded by
farms and fields. The accommodations are excellent. No one will be disappointed if they chose to stay
there. My wife loved the kitchen which was right out of the Ikea catalog. We liked it so much we have it
booked for another 3 weeks in September 2015.
Pauline and Tom Crozier were excellent hosts. They live right on the property themselves and Pauline has
a small studio attached where she does ceramics.
We had an excellent time in Scotland. We rented a car from the Edinburgh airport and toured the country with the IPA house as our base. I spent a few days with the Scottish Metal Detecting Society and found
a 13th Century Medieval silver crucifix which is now being evaluated by the Scottish National Museum.
Feel free to pass my name on to anyone who might be thinking of visiting Scotland and staying at the IPA
house.

Je suis un membre IPA de la région 16 et je demeure en Nouvelle -Écosse . Je voulais vous dire que ma
femme et moi avons passé 3 semaines à la maison IPA située en Ecosse durant le mis de septembre dernier . Celle-ci est situé dans un magnifique région rurale entouré de domaines d'agriculture et d'espaces
verts. Les chambres de la maison sont excellentes . Personne ne sera déçu s'ils ont choisi d'y rester. Ma
femme a adoré la cuisine qui ressemblait à ceux que l'on retrouve dans un catalogue Ikea . Nous avons aimé cet endroit et nous l'avons réservé pour trois semaines en septembre 2015.
Pauline et Tom Crozier sont d'excellents hôtes . Ils vivent sur la propriété eux-mêmes et Pauline a un petit studio adjacent à la maison où elle fait de la céramique .
Nous avons passé du bon temps en Ecosse . Nous avons loué une voiture à l' aéroport d'Edimbourg et fait
le tour du pays. Nous avons utilisé la maison IPA comme notre base. J'ai passé quelques jours avec la
«Scottish Metal Detecting Society» et trouvé un crucifix médiéval en argent qui date du13ème siècle et
qui est présentement évalué par le Musée National Écossais .
N'hésitez pas à passer mon nom à ceux qui pourraient penser de visiter l'Ecosse et
de rester à la maison IPA .

Salutation du Sri Lanka
Nous avons planifié une Semaine de l’amitié internationale à des endroits fort intéressants qui incluent la
ville de Colombo, l’orphelinat des éléphants Pinnawela, la caverne du temple Dambulla dans un rocher, la
ville ancienne de Polonnaruwa, la capitale de Kandy hill, Nuwara Eliya, la cité emmurée de Galle; et le parc
national de Yala.
Le coût sera très raisonnable. Nous avons fait en sorte que les coûts soient au minimum en occupation
double dans des hôtels de 3, 4 et 5 étoiles, avec repas, transport et admission sur les sites.
Au cours des années 2000, 2003, 2005, 2010 et 2013, nous avons organisé cinq Semaines de l’amitié et
nous espérons qu’un très grand nombre de membres de toutes les Sections participeront à cette semaine
en 2014, spécialement mise en place pour la célébration de notre 40e anniversaire.
Le programme, les frais et le formulaire d’inscription sont joint aux présentes. Tous les hôtels sont remplis

We have planned a International Friendship Week to all the interesting pl,aces in the country including City of Colombo, Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, Dambulla Cave temple on a rock; Polonnaruwa Ancient City, Kandy hill capital, Nuwara Eliya,The walled City of Galle; and Yala National Park .
The charges will be very reasonable. We have kept the cost to the minimum to share a double room
in 3 / 4 /5 star hotels with all meals, Transport, and Entrance tickets to sites.
We have successfully conducted 5 friendship weeks in the years 2000, 2003, 005, 2010 & 2013 and expect
our members from all sections to participate in our Friendship Tour in 2014 specially organised to celebrate the 40th Anniversary.

The Calgary Police Service Auxiliary Cadet Program
The Calgary Police Service Auxiliary Cadet Program is the second phase of a youth
mentorship program.
While the Auxiliary Cadet Program is open to all applicants, this particular opportunity may be of specific interest to youth in our community. We therefore encourage individuals between 18 – 24 years of age who have an interest in a career
in policing specifically to apply. The program will bridge the gap between the Calgary
Police Cadet Corps (ages 12-17), and the sworn recruit process. Previous enrollment in the Calgary Police Cadet Corps is not a requirement to apply for the Auxiliary Cadet Program.
The Auxiliary Cadet Program is structured as a three-year pilot project in which the paid training and employment component is designed to augment the skills, knowledge and experience of young candidates
who require development in these areas to successfully compete for a sworn police officer position with
the Calgary Police Service.
The Auxiliary Cadet Program aims to attract candidates who are genuinely interested in a career in law
enforcement who come from diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds. Within the program it
will also offer, mentorship and learning opportunities through a structured employment opportunity.
Mission:
To develop in young people the attributes of good citizenship, leadership, physical fitness and integrity
while enhancing their law enforcement knowledge as they move towards a career with the Calgary Police
Service.

News from Region 13
On March 29th, 2014, members of Region 13 held a "Potluck" dinner at the James Bay
Legion Hall in Victoria which was followed by a talk and photo presentation by R13 member James HAWKINS, on his latest travel book, "A Slow Boat to China", the first of a series
of Travel Guides for independent-minded retirees. The book traces the observations and
adventures of James and his wife, Sheila, as they travelled on the Trans-Siberian railway
from Moscow to St. Petersburg, across the Gobi Desert to Mongolia, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong
Kong. James showed numerous stunning pictures and talked about some of the fascinating sights, cities
and locations that he and Sheila experienced on the journey.
The Legion proved to be a perfect venue, thanks to Rudy Vermaning, who doubles as R13 Treasurer and
Legion Executive member. The potluck contributions made for a delicious meal.
James Hawkins was a senior Police Officer with the British Transport Police in the UK and a Lecturer at
the Police College prior to his retirement. He lives on Galiano Island, BC for six months of the year, writing his books and the rest of the time travelling, or at his residence in the South of France. In addition to
Travel Books, James has also written Detective Novels.

ont organisé un repas à la fortune du pot à la salle
de la Légion de la Baie James à Victoria, qui fut
suivi d’une conférence et d’une présentation de
photos par James Hawkins, membre de la R13.
Le livre traite de son plus récent de voyage intitulé « A slow boat to China », le premier d’une série de guides de voyages destinés aux retraités
indépendants. Le livre retrace les observations et
les aventure de James et de son épouse, Sheila,
lors de leur périple à bord du train transsibérien
qui les a menés de Moscou à Saint-Pétersbourg,
traversant le désert de Gobi en direction de la Mongolie, Beijing, Shanghai et Hong Kong. James nous a
montré des photos impressionnantes de sites, de villes et d’endroits qu’ils ont visités.
La Légion était un lieu tout indiqué pour cette prestation et on remercie Rudy Vermaning, qui a aussi occupé les fonctions de Trésorier de la Légion. Les mets apportés par les convives ont contribué au succès de
cette belle soirée.
James Vermaning est un ex-policier sénior de la Police du transport britannique du Royaume-Uni et un
conférencier au collège de police avant de prendre sa retraite. Il habite sur l’île de Galiano, C-B, six mois
de l’année, où il écrit. Le reste du temps, il voyage ou passe du temps dans sa résidence située dans le Sud

Region 5 member Glen Bromley of Athabasca has written a book and
is available for purchase.
It is an autobiography covering the twenty five years of RCMP service,
eleven years as a Management Auditor in the Alberta Government, five
years as the CEO of the Athabasca Health Unit and followed with retirement.
It was published by Amazon Publishing but not distributed to book
stores for sale. He is selling them for $20.00 per copy plus mailing costs.

HEALTHY HOBBY FOR IPA MEMBERS
If you are looking for a little motivation to get off the couch and enjoy social interaction combined with
light exercise, you may want to check out the Canadian Volkssport Federation at www.walks.ca
This walking club has chapters world wide and thousands of members plan their vacations around walking.
You can do it on your own but my favorite are the group walks and meeting people on those walks.
Every province has Volkssport walks but as I am most familiar with the Alberta chapters, I will use some
links to Alberta to give you an idea what they are up to.

I have been a member for 3 years now and always look forward

Comic book tells inspirational
story of former EPS officer.
EDMONTON – He may not be Superman or
Spider-Man, but the main character in a new
comic book is a hero to many in the city and
particularly the Edmonton Police Service (EPS).
Alex Decoteau was born on what’s now Red
Pheasant First Nation, just south of North Battleford, Saskatchewan.
After his father died, Decoteau was sent to
residential school, where he became an avid
runner.
In 1909, the young man moved to Edmonton.
Two years later, Decoteau joined the Edmonton Police Department, becoming the first aboriginal police
officer in Canada.
Now, Decoteau’s life story is the subject of a new digital comic, produced by the EPS, called Legacy of Heroes.
“It’s a very important, very inspirational story. Alex was someone who was determined to get the most
out of life,” said Jeff Awid, who wrote the comic book.
“It’s an honour to cover a historical figure that has an amazing story and to be able to help that story be
told and come alive,” added Jared Robinson, the book’s illustrator
After learning about Decoteau a few years ago, Awid thought a comic book would be the best way to
share his story with a broad audience, both young and old.
The book was written and illustrated with the help of artifacts, historical information and stories from
Decoteau’s relatives.
“Here’s someone… who is committed to life, determined to get the most out of life, but he also gave back
to his community. He was a popular person in his community, he brought pride to the City of Edmonton,”
said Awid.
“Kids are sitting in class, reading text books… why not give them a comic book? It’s history, it’s information that actually comes alive,” added Robinson.
And it’s been well-received. About 3,000 copies of Legacy of Heroes were printed and handed out to students at Edmonton’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings late March 2014. Several more were
requested by educators.
After leaving the Edmonton Police Department, Decoteau joined the army and fought in WWI. He was
killed in October 1917 in the Battle of Passchendaele.
The goal is to release a comic every few months, telling inspirational stories within the EPS.
“I’m hoping this inspires other people, especially young people, to say ‘hey, what can I do with my life to
make Edmonton a better place to live,’” said Awid.
The next issue of Legacy of Heroes will be about the first time an airplane was used to pursue a criminal in
Canada. It was used to follow the suspect wanted in Constable William Nixon‘s murder. Nixon was the
first EPS officer killed with a firearm.

Après avoir appris l’existence de Decoteau, il y a quelques années, j’ai pensé qu’une bande dessinée serait
la meilleure façon de partager son histoire avec le public, jeune et vieux.
Le livre a été écrit et illustré à l'aide d'artefacts, des informations historiques et des histoires partagées par
les parents de Decoteau.
«Voici quelqu'un ... qui s'est engagé dans la vie, déterminé à tirer le meilleur parti de la vie, mais il a aussi
donné à sa communauté. Il était une personne populaire dans sa communauté, il a fait la fierté de la ville
d'Edmonton », a déclaré l'Awid.
«Les enfants sont assis en classe à faire la lecture de livres … pourquoi ne pas leur donner une bande dessinée? C'est l'histoire, c'est l'information qui devient réellement en vie ", a ajouté Robinson.
Et le livre a été bien reçu. Environ 3.000 exemplaires de «Legacy of Heroes» ont été imprimés et distribués aux élèves aux audiences de l’ «Edmonton’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission» d'Edmonton, et
aux audiences de la Commission de réconciliation en fin mars 2014 Plusieurs autres copies ont été demandées par les éducateurs.
Après avoir quitté le Service de police d'Edmonton, Decoteau rejoint l'armée et a combattu dans la Première Guerre Mondiale. Il a été tué en octobre 1917 durant la bataille de Passchendaele.

Le prochain numéro de «Legacy of Heroes» va traiter de la première fois qu’un avion a été utilisé pour
poursuivre un criminel au Canada. L’avion a été utilisé pour suivre le suspect recherché dans l'assassinat
de l'agent William Nixon. Celui-ci fut le premier officier du SPE à être tué avec une arme à feu.

Neil Stephenson, President Region 10 IPA Canada, enjoyed a nice breakfast with 2 IPA members
from the New South Wales (NSW) region while visiting Australia.
Warwick Brown is now retired from NSW
State Police. Warwick was employed as the reception officer for the IPA Sydney & New South
Wales Section, but has relinquished this position
to Jack Russell. Too bad Jack Russel had to
work so he could not join us for breakfast, however a new member (Joe Ludick) attended at
this occasion.
Joe is an avid Patch Collector and also interested in Challenge Coins.
Warwick Brown, Neil Stephenson and Joe Ludick at

Warwick Brown est un policier retraité du Pays de Galles. Il a travaillé en tant qu’officier de réception

que Jack n’ait pu se joindre à nous. Toutefois, Joe Ludick, un nouveau membre, était de la partie.
Joe est un grand collectionneur d’écussons et il est aussi très intéressé par les monnaies Challenge.
Neil avait rencontré Warwick lors d’un précédent voyage en Australie. Il était très heureux de le revoir.
Ce n’est là qu’une belle démonstration des amitiés qui se forment tout au tour du monde via IPA.

IPA South Africa has informed us that a special souvenir stamp and folder commemorating the life and legacy of the late President Nelson Mandela has been launched in South Africa in coordination with the Nelson
Mandela Foundation.
The National President, Vossie Vos, told us: “As many IPA members are stamp collectors this stamp and
folder could in all probability find a special place within their stamp collections. There could however also
be many others, who due to the legacy of Mr. Mandela as a world icon would like to obtain the folder as a
souvenir.”

émis.
Ce livret commémoratif s’avère être un outil
éducatif du fait qu’il relate la vie et l’héritage de
Mandela. Il enseigne sur la manière de garder
bien vivante l’héritage de Mandela de par son
exemple : le pardon, l’humilité, l’honnêteté, l’importance de l’éducation, le jugement, l’avantage
de bénéficier de certaines circonstance et, le
sens de l’humour.
