WALTER SWENNEN «La vérité est dans les mots. On a dit stupide comme un peintre. La stupidité est le nom du réel qui entre en conflit avec la réalité. La peinture traite du réel. Je m’occupe donc de stupidités. Certaines personnes aiment penser en termes de déliquescence, ou de vide intérieur qui ne cesse de grandir. Mais il n’y a pas de monde intérieur. (Avoir mal à la tête n’est pas la preuve que l’on a des pensées – et il en va peut-être de même pour la peinture : on a simplement mal aux yeux.) C’est simplement sans issue, comique.» Walter Swennen SEM-ART 20, avenue de la Costa 98000 - MONACO Tel. : +377 97 70 50 70 Fax : +377 97 70 50 77 [email protected] w w w. s e m - a r t . m c 1 (1948) Biographie 1948 Currently • Born in Brussels, Belgium • Lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium Expositions individuelles 2012 2011 2010 2009 2008 2007 2006 2004 2003 2002 2001 1999 1994 1993 1991 1986 1984 • Sans titre, Nadja Vilenne, Liège, Belgium • Walter Swennen, aliceday, Brussels, Belgium • Garibaldi Slept Here, Kunstverein Freiburg, Germany • Walter Swennen, fdc, Paris • De Ziener (met Philippe Van den Berghe) Asse, Belgium • Three Bald Men, Ansel Krut and Walter Swennen, Domobaal gallery, London, UK • Walter Swennen ‘Een kleine ritselende revolutie, Dubbeltijd’ in het Arentshuis, Brugge, Belgium, curated by Dirk Snauwaert • Nadja Vilenne, Liège, Belgium • Nicolas Krupp, Basel, Switzerland • Aliceday, Brussels, Belgium • How to paint a Horse, De Garage, Cultuurcentrum Mechelen, Belgium • Cultuurcentrum Strombeek, Grimbergen, Belgium • Curating the Campus, de Singel, Antwerp, Belgium • Galerie Greta Meert, Brussels, Belgium • Galerie Nadja Vilenne, Liège, Belgium • Galerie Nicolas Krupp, Basel, Switzerland • Aliceday, Brussels (with Michael Dans) Belgium • Galerie Nadja Vilenne, Liège, Belgium • Galerie Annie Gentils, Antwerp, Belgium • Herman Teirlinckhuis, Beersel, Belgium • Flemish Culture Prize for the Visual Arts, Belgium • Factor 44, Antwerp (with Dialogist–Kantor) Belgium • S.
