Sumo is the name of the electro band which was founded in the year 1999 by Fred and Alex Sumi.
The first one sings and plays the guitar, the second one plays bass, composes and produces the music. Both of them orchestrate a mix of organic
instruments, soulful voices and electronical sounds. The duo loves the musical style Prince made, from where erised the epic song “Sign of times”
which is a new version and continues to be played by Couleur 3.
Welcomed by the press (Inrocks,Trax) and by Radio playlists (Nova,BBC), chosen by international compilations (Fashion TV, Haus der Yo) and
mixed by renowned DJs such as (Gilles Peterson, Laurent Garnier), through the years the band became wellknown on the Swiss and international
Music scenes with 4 albums, multiple EPS LPS, multiple concerts (Europe, USA ) and with the first parts of (Faithless, Morcheeba, Jamie Lidell,
Gotan Project).
Since 2013 new formula on stage : a drummer, a percussionist and a horn section now accompany the Sumi brothers. With the latest part EX MA
(2013), Sumo extends his musical action field. Result ? Carved and syncopated groove, accompanied by Alex's voice that leads to highest ecstasy.
Regarding the electro–soul songs of the last three albums, some are repeated and are available in versions such as Funk, Reggae, Rock, Latin, Blues
or Jazz. Each of them brings us into the area of delicious Inspired AfricanAmerican dance. SUMO uses all his talent for new orchestrated
compositions. So, Let’s Get Started !
