in Ottawa, with the title of Doctor Christianissimus (D.Chr.)
Education:
Diploma of Superior Studies in Music, Conservatoire de musique de Québec.
Master of Music, Université Laval, Québec.
Professional Activities:
Historian of music, compositor and researcher.
President founder of the Association des familles d’origine germanique du Québec (AFOGQ). He is also
the editor of the review Germaniques: Ahnengalerie, in which are published three times a year the
results of genealogical researchs. Kaufholtz-Couture reconstitutes the history of Quebec German heritage
using various archive holdings of the Province of Quebec and Canada, as well as private holdings. The
historical discoveries on the many patronyms, both in New France and in Lower Canada, offer to Quebec
population an unprecedented history of its German pioneers. The AFOGQ also works on the history of
Scandinavian and Ashkenaze Jewish families of Quebec.
Publications :
He authored several research reports on German genealogy (Germanica List) and a dictionary on line
(www.afogq.com). He also initiated publication projects such as the Diary of James Thompson, military
engineer of Quebec city, as well as the translation of the Diary of Melsheimer, military chaplain in the
Braunschweig troups.
