PREVIEW : PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN - ANGERS SCO
Paris Saint-Germain - Angers SCO Feature Preview
Runaway leaders Paris Saint-Germain host surprise packages Angers on Saturday afternoon as the capital club's hectic fixture list
continues. PSG have been winning games in 2016 as coach Laurent Blanc rotates his squad, though have not scaled the heights
they reached in the previous calendar year.
Blanc's challenge is to ensure his players are in optimal condition when the Champions League round of 16 clash with Chelsea
comes around next month. The former France boss saw his side require a last gasp Zlatan Ibrahimovic penalty in midweek to beat
Toulouse at the Parc des Princes and make it through to the last 16 of the Coupe de France. PSG face the same opponents in the
semi-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue next week as they aim to repeat their historic domestic quadruple of last season.
Europe is already uppermost in the minds of the supporters as PSG meet Chelsea for the third season running in the continent's
premier club competition. Blanc too is thinking about the two-legged clash with Guus Hiddink's Blues and would like PSG's fixture
pile-up to be reduced to enhance the club's prospects of once again reaching the quarter-finals.
Blanc said: "We've put in the request. The match against Marseille will of course be played on a Sunday (Feb 7) and so we'd like
either the midweek game in the Coupe de France or a league game to be moved."
PSG are due to face Lille on February 13 in the league, three days before hosting Chelsea in the first leg of the Champions League
tie.
Before the Premier League club come to the French capital, Blanc hopes to have his future resolved. Negotiations are approaching a
conclusion as to a contract extension and Blanc said: "We're talking and we should reach an agreement."
Promoted Angers have taken brilliantly to life in the top division and that has earned coach Stéphane Moulin a second contract
extension. Last week the coach signed up through to 2019, which is the club's centenary year.
In midweek Angers exited the Coupe de France, beaten by remodelled Bordeaux, and that came hot on the heels of the setback of
conceding two penalties in losing in the league to Nice.
After the Nice game a frustrated Moulin said: "The referee blew for it so that means there was a foul. But we need to decide once and
for all whether there is always a penalty when the ball touches the hand as it cannot be blow for one time in two. I've seen the pictures
again. It's good for Nice but I hope that if the same thing happens next week in Paris that the whistle will go again. I'm not certain of
that."
When the clubs met in Week 16 Angers managed to hold PSG to a goalless draw, becoming the first - and so far only - club to
manage a clean sheet against the champions in the league this season. The only club with a better defensive record than Angers is
PSG, but there is no comparison when it comes to recent form. PSG have won their last 10 matches in all competitions, whereas
Angers have a mere three victories from their last 11 league outings.

Week 22
Paris Saint-Germain - Angers SCO
Paris Saint-Germain - Angers SCO
- HISTORY: PSG have hosted Angers seven times in the top division, winning three, drawing three and losing just once, 1-0 in 1972
in the clubs' first meeting at the Parc des Princes.
- The last time the clubs met in Paris in February 1994, PSG ran out 3-0 winners.
- THIS SEASON: In Week 16 the clubs drew 0-0 as Angers became the first club all season to keep a clean sheet against the
champions.
- PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN:
- GENERAL: Paris Saint-Germain came into Week 22 on top of the table with 57 points from 21 games. They have won 18 and drawn
three of their games to date and came into the weekend an enormous 21 points clear of Monaco in second.
- PSG's tally of 51 points at the halfway stage of the season was a new record, beating the previous mark held by Olympique
Lyonnais, who had 50 points from the first 19 games in 2006-07.
- Paris collected 96 points in Ligue 1 in 2015, with 30 wins, six draws and only two defeats in the calendar year.
- This time last season, Paris were third with 41 points, four points behind leaders Olympique Lyonnais.
- PSG have been top of the table since beating GFC Ajaccio 2-0 in Week 2. In contrast, last season they were not top at all until late
March.
- Last weekend, Laurent Blanc's side won 1-0 at Toulouse. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (73') scored the only goal.
- The Paris line-up against Toulouse (4-3-3): Trapp; Aurier, Marquinhos (Van der Wiel 61'), Luiz, Maxwell; Stambouli (Verratti
78'),Motta, Matuidi; Pastore (Cavani 19'), Ibrahimovic, Lucas Moura.
- Laurent Blanc's side have won their last 10 matches in all competitions.
- They have been beaten just once, by Real Madrid, in 32 games altogether this season.
- They have gone 30 Ligue 1 games without losing, winning 27 and drawing three, since a 3-2 defeat away to Girondins de Bordeaux
on March 15 last year. That is a new club record, bettering the previous mark of 27 top-flight games without defeat set in 1993-94.
- In their last 46 games in all competitions, PSG have only lost to Barcelona (twice) and Real Madrid.
- Blanc's side have not lost any of their last 38 domestic outings.
- Paris have scored 51 goals in Ligue 1 this season, more than any other side.
- PSG have scored in all bar one league game so far, the exception being their 0-0 draw at Angers SCO in Week 16. They have
scored three goals or more on nine separate occasions, netting five in wins against Toulouse FC and Olympique Lyonnais, four in
defeats of FC Nantes, AS Saint-Etienne and ESTAC Troyes, and three against AS Monaco, EA Guingamp, Nice and Caen.
- Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the leading scorer in Ligue 1 with 16 goals, all of which have come in his last 14 appearances. Edinson Cavani
has scored 10 while Ángel Di María has six and Lucas Moura has four.
- In all competitions, Ibrahimovic has 20 goals, Cavani has 13, Di María has nine and Lucas seven.
- Di María has provided nine assists, more than any other player in Ligue 1. Ibrahimovic has laid on six goals, while Javier Pastore
and Lucas each have three assists.
- Seven of Di María's nine assists have come in the final half hour of games.
- Ibrahimovic overtook Pauleta as PSG's all-time record goal-scorer when he netted twice in the 2-1 win over Marseille in October to
move on to 110 goals for the club. His total has now reached 126.
- The Swede recently overtook George Weah as PSG's all-time top scorer in Europe and has 91 Ligue 1 goals after passing
Mustapha Dahleb's top-flight record of 85 for the capital club.
- The capital club have the best defensive record in the division, having conceded only nine goals in 21 games thus far. They have
kept 13 clean sheets. Their 2-2 draw at home to Girondins de Bordeaux in Week 5 is the only game in which they have conceded
more than once.

Paris Saint-Germain
- Promoted to Ligue 1 in their present guise in 1974, PSG are in their 42nd consecutive top-flight season.
- PSG's 2014-15 title triumph was their fifth and their third in a row (1986, '94, 2013 and 2014). They have won nine Coupes de
France (1982, '83, '93, '95, '98, 2004, '06, '10 and '15), and five Coupes de la Ligue (1995, '98, 2008, '14 and '15) after completing an
unprecedented domestic quadruple (with the Trophée des Champions) in the 2014-15 campaign.
- PSG ended last season on 83 points, eight clear of second-placed Olympique Lyonnais and 12 ahead of AS Monaco in third.
- PSG became only the second French club to win a European trophy when they beat Rapid Vienna to the 1996 UEFA Cup Winners
Cup' title.
- PSG play at the 48,712-seat Parc des Princes. The ground is being refurbished for EURO 2016.
- Laurent Blanc was named coach in June 2013 to replace Real Madrid-bound Carlo Ancelotti. He won the treble of Ligue 1 (with a

with 28 goals. His 30-goal haul in 2012-13 made him the first player since Olympique de Marseille's Jean-Pierre Papin in 1989-90 to
score 30 in a single Ligue 1 season.
- PSG broke the French transfer record in July 2013, paying Napoli a reported 64 million euros for Cavani.
Angers SCO
- Founded in 1919, the same year as the French Football Federation, Angers turned professional after the Second World War.
- The club is heading into its 24th top-flight season, but their first since they finished bottom of the top-flight table at the end of the
1993-94 campaign.
- Their best-ever top-tier finish is third in 1966-67. They have finished fourth three times (1957-58, 1971-72, 1973-74) and won two
second-tier titles (1968-69, 1975-76).
- They returned to Ligue 1 by finishing third in Ligue 2 in the 2014-15 season. With 15 league goals in the season, Jonathan Kodjia
was named Ligue 2 Player of the Year, but left to join Bristol City in summer 2015.
- Angers' Stade Jean Bouin has a capacity of 18,000. Originally opened in 1912, it was later named after the French long-distance
runner who won Olympic silver over 5000m in 1912 but was then killed in action in 1914. It was renovated in 1993 when the club was
promoted to the top division.
- Coach Stéphane Moulin started his professional playing career at Angers between 1984 and 1990. He went on to play for LB
Châteauroux ('90-'92) and SO Châtellerault ('92-'97). He took charge of Angers' reserve side in 2005, and then the first team when
Jean-Louis Garcia moved to RC Lens in June 2011.
- Notable former players include Raymond Kopa, who started his professional career with them between 1949 and 1951, Ulrich
Ramé, Anthony Modeste, Gaëtan Charbonnier and Sofiane Boufal.
