his blend of the old traditional craftmanship and experimental thinking makes him a big favourite for Official Gifts and Prizes;
f.ex. Hordaland County's gift to the Norwegian King Harald in 1995,
to the Royal Crown Prince and Crown Princess in 2002,
the Nordic Board of Ministers in 2003, and many more.
Arne Mælen is also the creator and owner of Hardanger Kulturgalleri, www.kulturgalleriet.no , situated high up on his old family farm, on the side of the
mountain Samlen, right at the heart of Hardangerfjord - with the most spectacular views of the entire fjord.
Autodidacte, A.B travaille le bois de manière audacieuse et novatrice. Mélangeant artisanat traditionnel et vision conceptuelle. Il a obtenu de nombreux Prix et
se révèle grand favori pour la réalisation de Cadeaux Officiels.
Parmi ceux-ci, le cadeau offert par le comté du Hordaland au roi de Norvège Harald en 1995, au prince héritier et à la princesse héritière en 2002, au Conseil
des ministres nordiques en 2003, et bien d'autres.
Arne a voyagé et exposé dans de nombreux pays où il a reçu de nombreux prix pour son travail.

Quelle est votre objective pour collaborer ? Par exemple : collaborer avec des autres artistes ?
J’aime le mélange de styles et de sculptures différentes, cela apporte une richesse dans l’exposition, cela me permet aussi de rencontrer de nouveaux
artistes
Voulez-vous créer des œuvres spéciales ou unique pour cet évènement ? Par exemple inspiré par l’environnent ?
Oui, je suis occupée à créer de nouvelles sculptures d’un nouveau style spécialement pour placer dans l’étang
Quelles sont les point forts dans votre carrière d’artiste ?
Une grande reconnaissance internationale ( U SA, Autriche, Lituanie, Italie, ….) dans mon travail en sculpture monumentale en pierre.
Ces symposiums me permettent de découvrir d’autres cultures, de travailler de nouvelles pierres, de voyager..
C’est très riche d’être inviter en tant qu’artiste et non en touriste, l’échange est très enrichissant

Le thème du jardin enchanté m’a spécialement séduit car cela correspond à mon univers de rêve.
J’ai crée des pièces spécialement pour ce jardin pour être en harmonie avec la nature.
Mes pièces principales sont deux balançoires métalliques de 1,50 m chacune, sur lesquelles se balancent une fée et un faune.
Tout est décoré avec des éléments végétaux pour créer une ambiance fantastique.

ABOUT PARTICIPATING IN THE EXHIBITION:
Waarom neem je deel aan deze tentoonstelling ?
Om verschillende redenen: mijn werk is eerder tentoongesteld in een groepsexpositie georganiseerd door 'Art Sanctuary' in Noorwegen. Dit was een hele plezierige ervaring
en onwaarschijnlijk goed verzorgd en begeleid. Dit is één van de redenen waarom ik geen moment aarzelde om mee te doen aan deze expositie toen mij dat werd gevraagd
door Tone. Ik vind het een voorrecht weer te mogen participeren. Bovendien heb ik veel gehoord over de geweldige plek waar Tone/Ignace wonen en de natuur waarin hun
huis staat. Dit spreekt tot mijn verbeelding, zo ook het onderwerp van deze tentoonstelling.
Wat zijn uw objectieven ?
De werken die ik zal inbrengen voor deze expositie zullen zowel abstract, figuratief als architectonisch zijn. Vooral architectuur is een belangrijk onderdeel van mijn werken. Al
mijn werken zijn drie-dimensionaal.
Zul je speciale werken maken voor deze tentoonstelling ? Bijvoorbeeld geïnspireerd door de omgeving ?
Eén van de werken is een apart werk "Lustrum" genaamd. Deze is apart te noemen omdat deze - in tegenstelling tot de andere werken - niet van kartonachtig papier is
vervaardigd, maar van heel dun acrylaat. Dit werk kan daardoor buiten tentoongesteld worden. Dit is de eerste keer dat een werk van mij voor een langere periode in de open
lucht geëxposeerd wordt en dan nog wel in deze bijzondere tuin van 'Art Sanctuary'.
Welke is het belangrijkste werk dat je zult tonen ? Kun je er iets over vertellen ?
Interessant is een object waar een schilderij van Tone en mijn « papier architectuur » expertise gebundeld worden in een gezamelijk werk, de. Dit werk heet 'Forest Temple
Revisited'. Het is een 3-dimensionale recreatie van Tone‟s schilderij de 'Forest Temple'. Het is technisch een moeilijke opdracht omdat we verschillende disciplines en
technieken combineren. De verschillende lagen in het schilderij van Tone werden vertaald in verschillende 3-dimensionele niveaus. We hebben hier ons geruime tijd op
voorbereid en hopen dit werk in deze expositie te presenteren.
Welke waren belangrijke momenten in uw loopbaan als kunstenaar ?
Moeilijk te zeggen, want ik vind alles wat ik als kunstenaar heb meegemaakt belangrijk. Eervol noem ik wel o.a. één van mijn eerste (groeps)exposities in New York
(Craftmuseum, nu MAD museum genoemd) en degene in de Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Verder vond ik de volgende projecten die ik ben aangegaan eervol: een project
voor het Museum of Modern Art in New York, het object dat ik maakte voor de voorpagina van het internationale magazine "Wallpaper" en het werk gemaakt voor de
voorpagina van "The New York Times Key Magazine".

My work has been exhibited in a group exhibition organized by 'Art Sanctuary' in Norway. This was a very enjoyable experience and well cared for and supervised in the very
best way. This is one of the reasons why I did not hesitate to join in this exhibition when I was asked by Tone. I find it a privilege to be invited to participate again. Moreover, I
heard a lot about the great place where Tone and Ignace live and the nature in which their home is situated. This speaks to my imagination, so does the subject of this
exhibition. The works I will bring to this exhibition will be both abstract, figurative and architectural. Architecture is an especially important part of my work. All my works are
three-dimensional. One of the works I will exhibit is a work called 'Lustrum'/'Anniversary'. This title is because - unlike the other works – it is not made of cardboard-like paper,
but very thin acrylic. And therefore this work can be exhibited outside. This is the first time, for a long period of time, that a work of mine will be exhibited in the open air – in
this particular garden of 'Art Sanctuary'.
Special presentation in this exhibition: 'Forest Temple';
Tone and my expertise are pooled in a joint work for this exhibition; This work is called 'Forest Temple'. We have prepared for some time and look forward to present this art
work at the exhibition.
What were important moments in your career as an artist? Difficult to say because I think everything I've experienced as an artist is important. Honorable mention
I'll include one of my first (group) exhibitions in New York (Craft Museum, MAD now museum) and one in the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Also I found the following
projects I've made honorable: a project for the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the object that I made for the front page of the international magazine "Wallpaper" and
work created for the front page of The New Key York Times Magazine.

Jos kan je vergelijken met Hephaistos, kunstsmid en de enige olympische god die met zijn handen werkt.
Met de Metis als pure, mysterieuze, goddelijke inspiratiebron wordt een technisch vaardig uitvoerder een kunstenaar. Daardoor verandert zijn werk in kunst.
Hierop bestaat de meeste kans bij een ambachtsman. Iemand die het ambacht beheerst en uit een archetypisch gevoelsdiepte put. En dit raakt een ander.
Het werk bezit dan de kracht om de mensen te laten reageren vanuit hun overeenkomstige diepe emotie in henzelf.

Welke waren belangrijke momenten in uw loopbaan als kunstenaar ?
De selectie van ‘de kerkstoel’d oor gastcurator Jan Hoet voor de triënale Tempus Arti 2009.
De plaatsing van mijn 6 meter hoge kunstwerk ‘de bokkerijder’ op de rotonde in de gemeente Wellen in 2006.
Is er iets dat je zou willen vertellen over uw loopbaan, jouw werken, de tentoonstelling ?
Ik ben graag bezig in mijn atelier, op mijn eentje,in mijn eigen stijl, geleid door mijn gevoelens.
Door materiële beperkingen krijg ik meer creativiteit en dit geeft veel voldoening.

Quand Tone Aanderaa m'a invitée à participer à son projet, j'ai répondu "oui" sans hésitation.
Pourquoi?
Une magnifique expérience artistique en Norvège durant l'année 2009 m'a permis de découvrir le personnage "Tone Aanderaa" et le professionnalisme
de l'équipe "Art Sanctuary".
Pour moi, tout fut parfait: le choix des oeuvres et leur présentation dans un souci d'équilibre et d'harmonie amenaient une valorisation du travail de
chaque artiste.
Je participe aussi parce que j'éprouve beaucoup d'admiration pour l'audace de cette artiste venue de Norvège qui ouvre les portes de sa maison, de
son jardin, à des artistes et à un public cosmopolites, de tous horizons.
Le charisme, le goût du risque, la rigueur et la ténacité de Tone m'attirent sur ce nouveau chemin.
Je suis heureuse de participer à un événement de cette qualité et je souhaite qu'il remporte un beau succès!

J’entretiens une relation vivante, spontanée et mystérieuse avec la musique. Les compositions éclosent tout simplement, dans l’instant, pleinement
construites.
Je fonctionne le plus souvent tel un “secrétaire prenant des notes” plutôt que comme un compositeur classique …Les 14 albums composés à ce jour, sont
entièrement improvisés, première version, une seule prise… Je les interprète au piano solo ou jusqu’à 9 claviers à la fois.
Chaque plage possède son style unique, son état d’âme, sa mélodie.
La musique reflète souvent les valeurs spirituelles, elle visite les mondes célestes et donne forme aux questions de l’âme et du cœur. Elle explore la mémoire
profonde et mythologique des peuples de cette planète, comme cela a été le cas pour le projet “Minuit dans le Jardin Enchanté”.
J’aime entrer dans un nouvel univers, le découvrir et saisir ses mystères par l’intermédiaire de la musique et du son.

Ik had interesse om deel te nemen aan deze tentoonstelling omdat ik steeds op zoek ben naar nieuwe locaties om tentoon te stellen, en graag andere
kunstenaars en publiek ontmoet .
Ik probeer kunstwerken te maken die aansluiten met Tone haar thuisland Noorwegen alsook met de tuin waar de tentoonstelling zal plaatsvinden.
Het geeft een prettig gevoel om als kunstenaar uitgenodigd te worden om deel te nemen aan nationale en internationale tentoonstellingen.
De commentaar van de bezoekers op de werken van “de kunst van het onthaasten “ is steeds aangenaam om naar te luisteren.
I like to be a member of this exhibition because it gives me a good feeling to meet a new exhibition place, new artists and new public .
I’ll try to make a few objects which feels close by Norway and the garden.
As an artist, the best feeling I get is to be asked for exhibitions, national and international.
It is always nice to hear the comment of the public about my ‘’art of slowing down”

Het meest typerend voor zijn stijl is de sculptuur-reeks ‘Strange Fruit’. Ieder werk in deze reeks, is een momentopname in de ontwikkeling en levensloop van
een vreemdsoortige en buitenwereldse plant. Het kan gaan om een zaadbol, een ontluikende bloem, een rijpende vrucht of een afstervende plant. Elke
sculptuur toont echter ook de evolutie en overlevingsdrang van deze vreemde flora, want zelfs bij een uitgebloeid specimen is er steeds een teken van nieuw
leven.

Des images traversent mon esprit souvent pendant la nuit. Je les cueille au réveil dans leur parfum de mystère.
Mon travail est comme la coque d'un navire ou la coquille d'un escargot,concentrant l'attention vers l'intérieur d'un univers personnel certes, mais accessible
à tous.
Images often sail through my mind during the night. Waking up, I pick them up with their aura of mystery.
My work is like the hull of a ship or the shell of a snail, focusing attention inward to a personal world but certainly accessible to all.

This is basically how this whole project has come about; Painting and dreaming – or the opposite way around – and encountering art and artists which spark
new dreams.
L’art de Tone Aanderaa est inspiré par des peintres Belges comme René Magritte,
par la nature et la lumière ainsi que par les animaux et les mythes et légendes de son pays natal, la Norvège.

'Life' and 'The Dream of Flying' are constant themes in Will's beautiful wood work. And when he speaks of his process, he doesn't only refer to beauty of form
and material, colour and veins, he also speaks of its emotional value.
Wanneer een idee na soms vele schetsen is uitgewerkt, zoekt hij er het hout bij dat er perfect op aansluit. De schoonheid van de vorm en het materiaal zijn
belangrijk. Niet alleen de kleur of de nervatuur spelen een rol, maar ook de gevoelswaarde.

Après l'idée de départ viennent les nombreuses esquisses. Ensuite, il part à la recherche de la pièce de bois idéale pour réaliser l'œuvre.
La beauté de la forme et la matière sont importantes. La couleur et les veines du bois ont également un rôle à jouer afin de susciter l'émotion.

Belangrijk was het eerste wat ik maakte na de academie, mijn oude jas uit de studietijd in hout. Het bezig zijn met het thema “leven” en “vliegen”. Belangrijk is
ook mijn liefde voor de natuur vanaf mijn jeugd. Het presenteren van een tv-serie over beeldhouwen in hout was een bijzondere ervaring.
Le premier objet que j’ai crée après l’académie, ma veste du temps d’étudiant, est devenu ma marque. Etre obsédé par « la vie » et par « voler », m’a donné
une thème pour la vie. Important aussi est que j’aime la nature dès ma jeunesse. Et pouvoir présenter une série à la télévision sur sculpter était une
expérience particulière.
