The candidate must be fluent in one official language and must have a good basic understanding
of the second official language. (must be able to converse and field questions from visitors)
Preferred fields of study:
History, Social Studies, English, French, and Anthropology. Degrees or completed programs are
not required
Candidates from other related fields or with relevant qualifications will also be considered. The
position requires an interest in history
Additional language skills would be an asset, specifically German or Dutch. The candidate should
have previous experience working with the public, either in heritage or in tourism, and must have
an enthusiastic and outgoing, yet professional personality.
The position requires the ability to work with the public, often with large groups of adults and/or
children, to take initiative, to work independently and within a team, and to remain calm and
professional under difficult and demanding situations.
Supplementary conditions of Employment:
Interpreters are required to wear appropriate period costume provided by the employer in
performance of duties
Participation of the Government of Canada's job equity groups is encouraged. Over 50% of our

Bilingual Historic Interpreter
Job description:
Research and deliver interpretive tours of heritage buildings in both official languages
Develop and deliver educational programs and activities to school groups
Responsible for proper handling, maintenance, and preservation of artifacts and heritage
buildings
Research, plant, and maintain a period-correct vegetable and flower garden
Care for small animals such as chickens, alpacas, donkeys, goats, pigs, and others
Special event participation such as rodeo, community days, etc.
Skills required:
Must be fluent in their first official language, and have a good basic understanding of their second
official language (must be able to converse with visitors and answer questions about the site)
Must have an interest in BC history and Gold Rush era
Able to work independently and within a team environment
Must have excellent communication skills and be comfortable with large groups
Applicants will be friendly, outgoing, and energetic
Previous experience in historic site/museum sector, tourism, or working with the public an asset
Ability to speak German, or Dutch an asset but not required
Historic Hat Creek Ranch is a provincial heritage site offering interpretive tours of its 1860
roadhouse, McLean's cabin, and Shuswap Native village to the general public, school, and tour
groups from May to October. Facilities and services also include educational programs and
activities, restaurant, gift shop, camping, and overnight accommodation, stagecoach rides, gold
panning, archery, guided trail rides and more. Employees are dressed in period clothing to
recreate the atmosphere of the era. The ranch is operated by a registered charity whose goal is
to preserve and share the unique heritage and culture of the area with visitors from around the
world.

Candidate Profile:
Two Rivers Gallery is seeking a University or College student to work in the Gallery's curatorial
department. This student will manage a traveling outreach exhibition, work with the permanent
collection, assist with exhibition installations and tours and other programs and a range of other
activities relating to curatorial functions. English is required. Nous accueillons surtout des

This position is a full-time, 16-week contract from mid May through August.
Hours of work will average 37.5 hours per week.
This position is suitable for an Undergraduate/Graduate Student of Art, Art History, Museum
Studies or related fields. A familiarity with visual art and the operation of an art gallery is
important. A good working knowledge of databases is an asset. Knowledge of Microsoft Office
applications is required, good communication and research skills are essential.

Terrace and District Museum Society is especially interested in post-secondary students whose
