1.After20+yearsofloyalanddedicatedservice,SgtErikDunciswillbeengagingthepark
brakeonelasttimeon09Aug2016andretiringfromtheCanadianArmedForces.
2.SgtDuncisstartedhiscareerintheReservesasanMSE-OPatthen28SvcBninOttawain
1993.AfterfewyearsofgrindinggearswiththeReserveshedecidedtomakeitamore
permanentcareerandtransferovertotheRegForce.Soonthe3rdofAugust1996ithappened,
andhequicklyfoundhimselfreportingamonthlaterto2SvcBnTnCoyAPl.Thisiswhereitall
began,wherehehonedhistransportskills,andwhereheknewhewantedtobe.
3.Overtheyearshewouldshiftgearsforbothdomesticandoverseasdeployments.In1997it
wastheManitobaFloodsandin1998theIcestorminQuebec.Hisfirstoverseasdeployment
wastoBosniain1998withtheNSE,buthedidn’tgetenoughofitthefirsttime,sohereturned
withtheNSEin2001.
4.InJuly2002Erikwaspostedto1CdnFdHospandwasintroducedtoawholeothersideof
transportwhichdidn’tincludehelmetsandshovels.Enjoyingthelackofdiggingandducking,it
didn’tgowithoutadeployment,thisonewastoAfghanistanasanAmbdriverwithHSS,where
helmetsandduckingwereaprerequisite.
5.UponreturnErikwasthengiventheopportunityforafirstlinepostingwith3RCRasthe
SafetySupervisor.Thiswasachallengingposting,beingtheonlyMCpltruckerinaninfantry
unit.Notlearninghislessonthefirsttimeaboutmultipletoursinthesamelocation,Erik
returnedtoAfghanistanin2008asthebattlegroupSafetysupervisoranddispatcher.Outofall
thetoursErikhadwhileservingthiswasbyfarthebestone,asthisiswherehemethiswife
Jennifer.
6.UponreturningtoCanadain2009,ErikwaspostedtoCFBBordenwithCFSALnowCFLTC.
Heenjoyedmoldingthemindsofhisstudentsintoqualifiedoperators.HetaughtonMSE-Op
QL3`s,QL5`sandEATD.Gratefulfortheopportunitytoinstructforthetruckertrade,thisbyfar
wasoneofhisbestpersonalachievements.
7.Inthespringof2011,Erikwouldmarrytheloveofhislife,Jenniferandsoonafterhewould
bepromotedtoSgtandpostedbacktoPetawawa.Itwouldbeaneasytransitionashewould
continueasaninstructorfor4CDTCCSSTrgCoy.After2shortyearsatCSSErikwaspostedto2
SvcBnastheFleetManagerforGarrisonPetawawa.Thiswouldbehislastpositionasatrucker
priortohisretirement,butonethathethoroughlyenjoyed.
8.Erikwouldliketothankhisfamilyandthosepersonnelwhohavebeeninfluential
throughouthiscareer.Heisextremelyproudandhonoredtohavebeenapartofthetrucker
family.Inadditionhewilltrulymissthosemanyfriends,colleaguesandacquaintancesthathave
madehistimeintheCF,memorable.HewillbemovingtoWindsorOnwithhisbeautifulwife
Jenniferandfamilyandwillembarkonanewjourneyintotheworldofbusiness.
9.AninformalDepartwithDignityCeremonyinSgtDuncis’honourwilltakeplaceonFri,24
Jun16@JubileeLodge,GarrisonPetawawainconjunctionwiththeTNCoyannualMugout.

stationnementunedernièrefoisle9août2016etilprendrasaretraitedesForcesarmées
canadiennes.
2.LeSgtDunciscommencesacarrièredanslaRéserveentantqueChaufMR,àl’époqueau28
BonSvc,àOttawaen1993.AprèsquelquesannéesàgrincerlesvitessesdanslaRéserve,il
décided’entreprendreunecarrièrepluspermanenteetdemandeuntransfertdanslaForce
régulière.Sontransfertalieule3août1996etunmoisplustard,ilseprésenteauPonACieTpt
2BonSvc.C’esticiquetoutacommencé,oùilaacquissesaptitudesentransport,oùilatrouvé
savocation.
3.Aucoursdesannées,ilchangedecapetilentreprenddesdéploiementsauCanadaetà
l’étranger.En1997,ilintervientlorsdesinondationsauManitobaeten1998lorsdelatempête
deverglasauQuébec.IlparticipeàsonpremierdéploiementenBosnieen1998avecl’ESN,
maisilenredemandeetilyretourneavecl’ESNen2001.
4.Enjuillet2002,Erikestaffectéau1HCamps1DivCAetildécouvreunetoutenouvelle
facettedutransport,quinecomprendpasdecasquesnidepelles.Ilapprécielefaitdenepas
avoiràcreuseretniàdevoirseprotéger,maisilparticipetoutdemêmeàundéploiement,en
AfghanistanentantquecondAmbauseinduSSS,oùlescasquesetlaprotectionsontdes
préalables.
5.Àsonretour,Eriksevoitattribueruneaffectationdepremièreligneau3RCRentantque
superviseurdelasécurité.Ils’agitd’uneaffectationdifficile,carilestleseulcaporal-chef
camionneurdansl’unitéd’infanterie.N’ayantpasapprissaleçondesmultiplesaffectationsau
mêmeendroit,ErikretourneenAfghanistanen2008entantquesuperviseurdelasécuritédu
groupementtactiqueetrépartiteur.Detoutessesaffectations,c’estdeloincellequ’Erik
préfère,carilyrencontresonépouseJennifer.
6.ÀsonretourauCanadaen2009,ErikestaffectéàlaBFCBordenàl’EALFC,désormaisle
CILFC.Ilseplaîtàfaçonnerl’espritdesesstagiairespourenfairedesopérateursqualifiés.Il
enseignelaNQ3etlaNQ5ducoursdeChaufMRetleCCDAT.Ilestreconnaissantdelachance
qu’ilad’enseignerdansleGPMdecamionneur,etils’agitdeloindel’unedesesmeilleures
réalisationspersonnelles.
7.Auprintempsde2011,Eriképousel’amourdesavie,Jennifer,etpeudetempsaprèsilest
promuaugradedesgtetaffectéànouveauàPetawawa.Latransitionsefaitsansheurt,caril
continued’agiràtitred’instructeuràlaCieInstrSLCCI4DivCA.Après2brèvesannéesauSLC,
Erikestaffectéau2BonSvccommegestionnaireduparcautomobilepourlaGarnison
Petawawa.Ils’agiradesondernierposteàtitredecamionneuravantsaretraite,unpostequ’il
apprécieprofondément.
8.Erikaimeraitremerciersafamilleainsiquelesmembresdupersonnelquil’ontinfluencétout
aulongdesacarrière.Ilestextrêmementfierethonoréd’avoirfaitpartiedelafamilledes
camionneurs.Ils’ennuieraénormémentdesesnombreuxamis,collèguesetconnaissancesqui
ontfaitdesonpassagedanslesFAC,mémorable.IldéménageraàWindsor,enOnt.,avecsa
magnifiqueépouseJenniferetsafamille,etilselanceradansunenouvelleaventuredansle
mondedesaffaires.
9.Unecérémonieinformellededépartdansladignitéauralieuenl’honneurduSgtDuncisle
vendredi24juin2016auJubileeLodge,àlaGarnisonPetawawa,enmêmetempsquelepotde
départdelaCieTpt.Ilyauraunbarbecuede12hà13h.Unecérémoniededépartdansla
dignitésuivra.Lesmilitairesdetouslesgradessontinvités.
