EDITO
Nous sommes certainement nombreux
à ne plus nous reconnaître dans des
débats d’idées qui fantasment les enjeux
du siècle dernier. Nous sommes aussi
nombreux à constater que le monde
contemporain est vaste, pluriel, complexe
et qu’il faudrait sûrement, au lieu de la
craindre ou de la condamner, réactiver
la boîte à outils théoriques et réengager
la pensée. Nous sommes enfin nombreux
à voir qu’ailleurs, dans le vaste monde,
cette boîte à outils théoriques n’a cessé
de fonctionner, et qu’artistes, écrivain.e.s
et militant.e.s y recourent activement
pour déplacer les enjeux politiques et
théoriques du présent.
Dans cette boîte, on trouve par exemple les
outils queer, ecocriticism, anthropocène,
accélération,
post-postcolonialisme,
speculative
realism,
technosphere,
biopolitique,
pharmacoporn,
animal
studies, etc. Ils se traduisent mal en
français mais se déploient par exemple à
Berlin, New Delhi ou Dakar. Ils trouvent
de nouvelles formes de production, de
publication et investissent la scène,
l’exposition, les écoles et les structures
alternatives. Theory Now sera tout cela
à la fois en alternant et superposant les
formats de discussion et de présentation
qui associent artistes, chercheur.e.s,
écrivain.e.s, étudiant.e.s, performers.
Cette manifestation assume sa nature
hybride : entre université autonome,
scène, et café.
Theory Now est un projet du « Leverhulme
International Network in Contemporary
Studies » (Lincs, dir. M-A. Hutton) et de
La colonie. Il reçoit le soutien du Lincs,
de l’Institut Universitaire de France, de
l’EA « Littérature, histoires, esthétique »
(Univ. Paris 8) et de l’Université Paris
Lumières.

In this toolbox, we can find tools including
queer,
ecocriticism,
anthropocene,
acceleration,
post-postcolonialism,
speculative
realism,
technosphere,
biopolitic, pharmacoporn, animal studies,
etc. They may not translate well in French
but are dispersed, for example, through
Berlin, New Delhi, or Dakar. They find new
forms of production and publication; they
invest in alternative settings, exhibitions,
schools and structures.“Theory Now”
will also simultaneously alternate and
superimpose formats for discussion
and presentation to bring together
artists, researchers, writers, students,
performers.

THEORY
NOW
There are certainly many of us who
no longer identify with debates and
discussions that fantasize about issues
of a previous century. There are many of
us who recognize that the contemporary
world is vast, plural, complex and that
we must, rather than fear or condemn
it, reactivate the theoretical toolbox
and « réengager la pensée ». Finally,
there are many of us who have noticed
that elsewhere, in this vast world, this
toolbox has continued to operate, and
that artists, writers, activists effectively
use it to shift political stakes and theories
of the present.
