Oro na IDeO – inno vatio n city is the flagship design o f the new extensio n o f San Sebastian’s Techno lo gy Park that frames in a
public-private co llabo ratio n between Oro na (co mpany that fo cuses its activity o n lifts, escalato rs and mo ving walkways) and
the Techno lo gy Park.
The purpo se o f this pro ject is to ho use Oro na’s Inno vatio n Eco system, which stands o ut as it brings to gether different
synergetic activities –business, techno lo gy centres and university- and it will be a labo rato ry where leading-edge techno lo gies
in sustainability and energy management in buildings will be applied.
The Oro na Zero building will ho use Oro na co rpo rate headquarters and Oro na eic (Elevato r inno vatio n Centre). The Oro na
Fo undatio n is a hybrid building that ho uses the university. The A3 research building has labo rato ries devo ted to research o n
advanced electricity sto rage systems. Oro na Gallery will be used as a pavilio n fo r visito rs and real-time energy mo nito ring.
The buildings will be interco nnected by a central plaza enhancing the pro ject’s urban nature.
The design includes a district heating-co o ling system that will be managed by an ESCO (Energy Service Co mpany), and will
supply each o f the building with energy fro m 10 0 % renewable energy so urces, which is further backed up by certificatio n to
Leed Go ld and Breeam Excellent building standards.

De script io n archit e ct urale : This Pro ject has been designed in an integrated way like an Smart District. One impo rtant
asset is that it is based o n the co ncept o f Urban Cell, which is a scale between architecture and urbanism. The appro ach o f the
pro ject o n this scale co mprehensively tackle a number o f key design issues related to urban space, green space, accessibility,
o rientatio n o f buildings, a mix o f uses and energy efficiency, amo ng o thers. Thus this design was co nceived and develo ped
taking into acco unt a series o f linked buildings and urban spaces that synergistically create Oro na IDeO.

designed to adapt to different circumstances. The cylinder façade is made up o f a curtain wall with a skin co mpo sed o f
triangular pixels which change fro m: o paque, translucent and transparent, depending o n their po sitio n and the different
circumstances regarding expo sitio n to so lar radiatio n, access to views, the relatio n with the use o f internal space, etc. With
the aid o f the superpo sitio n o f these variatio ns o n the façade develo pment, and taking into acco unt the o verall transmittance
and a reference thresho ld fo r heat lo ss, the so lutio ns fo r the o uter and inner façades are designed, each with a different ratio
o f o penings and o paque areas.

Oro na IDeO is the flagship pro ject o f the extensio n o f San Sebastian’s Techno lo gy Park in Hernani. The techno lo gy parks o f
the 21st century seek to integrate uses in the urban framewo rk and aim at use intensity, go o d accessibility and asso ciated
services. In this respect, the pro ject updates the co ncept o f the city as so mething that agglutinates and acts as a meeting po int
fo r activities in its streets, squares and public spaces and in the care o f its landscape.
Eco Bo ulevard
The Eco Bo ulevard is the linear park shaping the backbo ne o f the Techno lo gy Park’s new extensio n. This space is an image
and reference po int fo r the who le o f the Park, and is characterised by its rich vegetatio n and careful landscaping in the
recreatio n areas where pedestrians will have preference o ver cars. The Eco Bo ulevard ends in a sculpture-like o bservatio n
po int o ffering a view o f the landscape, and co nnects with the city.
The inside o f Oro na IDeO – inno vatio n city is structured aro und a pedestrian axis which will jo in the area aro und the existing
ro undabo ut with the Eco Bo ulevard. The flo w o f peo ple will pass thro ugh the main building which will serve as the entrance to
the plaza.
The Plaza
The Plaza will describe an urban hall with a series o f pedestrian areas welco ming researchers, wo rkers and students who will
share these spaces aimed at enco uraging relatio nships and the exchange o f ideas. The Plaza will be an o pen space fo r the
peo ple fro m the city and, to gether with the Eco Bo ulevard, will be co nso lidated as an urban Techno lo gy Park.
