Black and white ruffed lemurs often live in groups ranging from 2-5 individuals. Being most active in the
morning and late afternoon, these animals spend most of the day feeding, travelling, and resting in the forest
canopy. When threatened, the black and white ruffed lemur defends its territory with a nearly deafening call.
The black and white ruffed lemur is found in the wet evergreen forest of eastern Madagascar. The Antainambalan River serves as the boundary that separates the two subspecies, with the red ruffed lemur found north of
the river and black and white ruffed lemur found to the south as well as on the island of Nosy Mangabe.
Le lémur vari noir et blanc vit en groupes de 2 à 5. Cet animal est surtout actif le matin et tard l'après-midi, et
passe la pluspart de sa journée à manger, à se promener, et à se reposer dans le couvert forestier. Lorsqu'il est
menacé, le lémur vari noir et blanc défend son territoire en poussant un cri extrêmement perçant. On le
retrouve dans la forêt sempervirente humide dans l'est de Madagascar. Cet animal fait partie de la même famille que le lémur vari roux. La rivière Antainambalana délimite les territoires de ces deux sous-espèces, le
lémur vari noir et blanc se trouvant au nord de la rivière, et le lémur vari roux se trouvant au sud de la rivière
ainsi qu'à l'île de Nosy Mangabe.
