De 6 à 27 et plus : l’Union européenne face aux défis de l’élargissement
Quel avenir pour le processus d'élargissement européen? Quels enjeux pour l'Union européenne et
pour les pays candidats? Comment sont perçus l'élargissement potentiel et les débats en cours de
part et d'autre de la frontière de l'Union? C'est à ces questions que se proposent de répondre, la
conférence annuelle du Master Affaires européennes de Sciences Po et l’Association Jean Monnet
– en partenariat avec la Fondation Robert Schuman – lors de deux journées de conférence les 28 et
29 avril 2011.
Cette étude débutera à la Maison de Jean Monnet, lieu symbolique de naissance de l’Union européenne,
avec une table ronde consacrée à l’élargissement de l’Union européenne aux pays des Balkans. Un panel
d’experts et personnalités politiques débattront de cette question avec les participants du projet « We Are
Europeans » originaires de 6 pays des Balkans et des étudiants des universités d’île de France.
Le 29 avril, une Conférence d’Ambassadeurs fera un état des lieux de la position de la Présidence de
l’Union européenne et des pays candidats et futurs candidats quant à l’élargissement.
S’en suivra la conférence « Candidate Countries: With or Without You? » évènement organisé par un
groupe de huit étudiants de Sciences Po qui ont à cœur d'interpeller étudiants, chercheurs et
professionnels sur la problématique de l'élargissement. Trois tables rondes, traitant un aspect particulier de
l'élargissement, auront pour objectif d'offrir un éclairage nouveau et original sur ce débat majeur de la
construction européenne.

From 6 to 27 and More: the European Union Faced With the Challenges of the Enlargement
What future for the process of European enlargement? Which scenarios for the European Union
and for the candidate countries? How are potential enlargement rounds and the current debates on
both sides of the Union's borders perceived as? It is these questions that the Annual Conference of
the Master in European Affairs, Sciences Po, and the Association Jean Monnet – in cooperation
with the Foundation Robert Schuman – want to find the answers to during the two days of
conferences on 28 and 29 April 2011.
This study will start at the house of Jean Monnet, the symbolical birthplace of the European Union, with a
round table dealing with enlargement of the European Union to include the Balkan region. Experts and
political figures will discuss this question with the participants of the project “We Are Europeans” from six
different Balkan countries and from universities across Paris.
On 29 April, a conference of ambassadors will sketch an inventory including the position of the Presidency
of the Council of the European Union, of the candidate and potential candidate countries.
This will be followed by the conference “Candidate Countries: With or Without You?,” an event organised
by a group of eight students of Sciences Po with the main goal to bring together students, researchers, and
professionals around the question of enlargement. Three round tables, each of them dealing with a
particular aspect of enlargement, will strive to offer a new and original point of view on this debate
accompanying the unification of Europe.
