• Are you in charge of an innovative project in the field of renewable energy ? • Are you looking for partners in the fields of science, technology or industry in the context of a specific project ? The DERBI competitiveness cluster brings together, business, laboratories, universities, training centres, professional associations, financial and regional collectives involved in the network of renewable energy throughout the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Its mission is to develop research, training, technological transfer and promote the creation and development of business in the area of renewable energy in building and construction and to do so at the regional, national as well as the international level. The cluster’s key objectives are: • TO GROW the expertise and critical pool of knowledge in the renewable energy sector within the region in order to enhance its competitive profile, • TO ENABLE business, particularly small and medium-sized enterprise to gain competitive market access, • TO CONTRIBUTE to the construction of a regional network of « renewable energy » and to ensure its visibility at the national and international level. • Are you looking for finance in the context of collaborative projects ? • Are you planning to establish a business close to technological competitiveness cluster in the domain of renewable energy ? • Are you planning to develop and invest in business in the heart of the premier region in France that has the highest budget per inhabitant dedicated to the development of renewable energy ? • Are you aiming to get closer to the high-growth Mediterranean markets for renewable energy ? … then contact our team: our network and expertise are at your disposal. an par tne rs: urope E r u O At one and the same time the DERBI competitiveness cluster aims to bring about the development of regional employment in the emerging renewable energy and associated markets. Sweden / Finland Energy-efficient buildings Belgium The major themes • Energy- producing buildings in a Mediterranean climate, based on an all-round concept; that of performance optimisation and integration of the full range of renewable energy sources (solar thermal, photovoltaic, geothermal, wind turbines); • Network managements and energy storage (electricity, heating, cooling) interconnecting homes with energy generation sites; • Energy production outside buildings (electricity, hydrogen, bio-carbons...), though solar, wind, or biomass energy, whether by supply from isolated sites or through grid connected systems. Its mission is to accelerate the development of innovatory technologies in the renewable energy sector. With a current strength of 141 members, DERBI gathers together the key players in the renewable energy network of the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Members of the cluster The DERBI competitiveness cluster has a membership of 141 composed as follows: • 71 businesses • 19 research centres, laboratories, universities, training and higher education establishments • 41 professional associations and institutional partners • 10 regional collectives Key figures 141 73 members accredited projects (since its establishment) 106 million Euros invested Since its creation the cluster has accredited 73 projects within the vital themes of the future such as, the generation of photovoltaic electricity, solar driven cooling, solar energy concentration stations, wind power, the valorisation of biomass energy, specialized training as well as prototype buildings demonstrating positive energy generation. (accredited projects) 202 The DERBI competitiveness cluster has the ambition to affirm its key role in the development of the renewable energy industry in a regional, national and international dimension … and thereby to contribute to the goal of a 23 % of total energy generation in France through renewables by 2020, as well as the reduction by a factor of 4 in greenhouse gas emissions between now and 2050 (the Kyoto agreement). I N N O V A T I O N Accredited projects The DERBI competitiveness cluster accredits three kinds of project: • collaborative research and development projects, • dissemination projects, • training projects. Projects that fulfil the eligibility criteria of the cluster go through a rigorous evaluation procedure which combines a technical and scientific dimension on the part of the Scientific Council, followed by an accreditation advice given by the Administrative Council. A sample of accredited projects: • A photovoltaic conversions system through high power solar energy concentration • An integrated solar air-conditioning system using energy storage elements partners in associative projects • Optimisation in the use of renewable energy and collective heating through daily energy storage that anticipates requirements through meteorological data • Construction of a positive energy building for professional training purposes • Rationalisation and improvement in anticipated maintenance of wind-energy parks • Electricity generation through a hybrid solar and gas-turbine system • Monitoring systems for buildings with high energy performance André Joffre President of the DERBI competitiveness cluster • Concept and construction of a test bank of solar captors on the point of their certification • Thermo transformation and biomass conditioning for its injection into a pressurized gasification reactor What is a competitiveness cluster ? • An evaluative study of employment / qualifications in the network of renewable energy in the Languedoc-Roussillon region “A competitiveness cluster defines itself as a combination of businesses, training centres, public or private research units, working in partnership to create and combine synergies of innovative projects that share a common goal within a specific geographic area. Such a partnership has to acquire a critical mass in order to become competitive and attain international visibility.” • Micro-algae utilization for energy purposes • An energy-neutral and commercially viable building in the Mediterranean context Solar power station Themis, Targasonne (Pyrénées-Orientales) The Languedoc-Roussillon region: first in terms of its renewable energy budget per inhabitant in 2008 The Languedoc-Roussillon region, quite apart from its exceptional climate, offers a particularly favourable economic context for the creation of networks in the domain of renewable energy. With a 2008 budget of 16,4 million Euros for 2,5 million inhabitants, the region testifies to its four priorities; • to encourage responsible behaviour on the part of its citizen, • to conduct research into energy performance, • to strengthen the regional market for renewable energy, • to lend support to regional energy policy. The CNRS/PROMES building, Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales) F O R The development and activity of the DERBI competitiveness cluster fits this framework to perfection. Belonging to the DERBI competitiveness cluster is to: • HAVE privileged access to the network of members and partners that constitute the DERBI competitiveness cluster, • RECEIVE the totality of information published and broadcast by the centre, among which tenders for DERBI projects and partnership opportunities,… • IDENTIFY potential co-financings for accredited projects, • ACCESS, the conferences and seminars organized by the cluster, among which the annual DERBI International Conference, at preferential tariffs, • Production of photovoltaic cells from recycled silicon Why obtain accreditation as DERBI competitiveness cluster ? • To have access to financing; at the national, regional and local level, through a unique contact point in the form of regular meetings of the Finance Commission. • To ensure regional, national and international visibility of your project and its associated partners, • To facilitate access to supporting structures for your project. • PARTICIPATE in general meetings and thereby contribute to the future of the DERBI competitiveness cluster.
