STEVE VERHEUL : BIOGRAPHIE
In early 2009, Mr. Verheul was
appointed as Canada’s Chief Trade
Negotiator for negotiations between
Canada and the European Union in the
Department of Foreign Affairs and
International Trade. Prior to that
appointment, he worked in international
trade policy at Agriculture and AgriFood Canada from 1989 to 2009, where
he worked on the NAFTA negotiations,
the Uruguay Round of Multilateral
Trade Negotiations that led to the
establishment of the World Trade
Organization (WTO), and the Doha
Round of WTO negotiations. He was
Canada’s Chief Agriculture Negotiator
from 2003 to 2009, responsible for
leading Canada’s involvement in
international trade negotiations on
agriculture, including the WTO. Mr.
Verheul graduated from the University
of Western Ontario in 1984, after
obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree and
a Master of Arts degree in Political
Science.
Au début de 2009, M. Verheul est

international à Agriculture et

multilatérales du Cycle de l’Uruguay qui
ont mené à la création de l’Organisation
mondiale du commerce (OMC), et au

l’OMC. Il est le négociateur principal en
agriculture du Canada de 2003 à 2009.
Dans le cadre de ce poste, M. Verheul
est responsable de la direction des
travaux du Canada en ce qui a trait à sa
participation aux négociations sur le
commerce international en agriculture, y
compris celles de l'OMC. M. Verheul est
diplômé depuis 1984 de l’Université
Western Ontario, où il a obtenu un
baccalauréat ès arts et une maîtrise ès
arts en science politique.
