To enable children to recognise and to write their names and to increase their vocabulary orally through
stories, poems and play, to encourage greater autonomy.

There are no formal exams at this level. The children are working towards the foundation level in this
area, which complements the French programme. The teachers work in close collaboration to ensure
that all areas of the language curriculum are covered during the school year. The teachers also put in
place a programme of themed topics to be covered through the year, linking to festivals and special
events.

develop understanding of measurement, (time, size), shapes and patterns.

Time – recognising the days of the week, the months of the year and specific events, e.g. birthdays,
Christmas
Identify differences in size, e.g. big, small, tall, short
Creating and continuing patterns.

movement, using a variety of resources; encouraging safe use of equipment.
