Objectifs:
Understand the principles of trade liberalization under the auspices of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Contenu:
The course focuses on trade in goods and dispute settlement in the WTO. We start with the economic history of the WTO, and then move to
review sequentially first trade in goods (customs duties, quotas, environmental-, public health policies, safeguards, etc.), and finally the
organization of dispute settlement in the WTO.
Forme de l'évaluation:
The mode of examination is described in detail in the relevant Law Faculty statutes. Students are required to take two multiple-choice exams,
one in the mid semester, and one at the end of the semester.
Documentation:
Petros C. Mavroidis and Mark Wu, The Law of WTO, Documents, Cases and Analysis, American Casebook Series, 2nd edition, 2013, West
Publishing: Egan, Minnesota.
Copies of the book will be kept on reserve at the Library of the Law Faculty. Additional handouts will be used for topics not covered by the book.
Students are welcome to use any other book they deem useful. In this respect, several sources will be proposed in the first class.
