Biographie
Johane Gareau
The old proverb saying that “A leopard cannot change its spots” could well summarize Johane
Gareau’s artistic trajectory. This Canadian-born artist has long resisted the appeal of graphic arts in
favor of a life of motherhood and a secure professional career in health care and teaching. It is we
redoubled energy that she has reconnected with her creative side. Her medium ranges from oil to
acrylic, with the occasional watercolor, as well as other mix media such as metals and ceramics. Her
techniques have now broken free from the brush and spatula. For example, her flowing paint
techniques have led to a collection of works that uniquely capture the fluidity of water and fire.
Johane’s style covers the gamut from realism to abstract. Now that she is emancipated from the daily
grind of professional life, she can lets her inspiration wander freely, traveling and capturing life and
nature in original style. For the most part, Johane shares her life between the US and her native
Quebec.
