Absurdity, anguish, alienation, and the impossibility and futility of communication were themes frequently employed by Ionesco, Beckett, and Adamov which will be explored at length in this research. Carrying out research in the stylistics of the modern theatre writers would help us to acquire knowledge in linguistics, and explore other fields; like psychology, aesthetics, and sociology which would ultimately lead us to aesthetical understanding which all great philosophers, and writers have in common, despite their variations in their fields of work. Dynamism in Modern Theatre By: Parisa Mohemkar Kheirandish Abstract The literature of the 50’s provided an atmosphere in which the modern theatre could evolve. Our objective in this thesis is to explore the modern theatre’s characteristics, in particular, the dynamism in the work of Eugene Ionesco who is celebrated as one of the founders of this school. One of the contributing factors in the shaping of this form of theatre is due to the political and historical situation dominating the society after the Second World War which expressed nihilism in terms of absurdity and meaninglessness of existence to the audience. In the post war era, the new play writers found themselves in a situation where they could study and investigate a detailed account of the modern plays. Eugene lonesco, Samuel Beckett, and Adamov found new methods and forms to develop the language of theatre; simultaneously manipulation with lights, sounds, and movements changed radically. This type of theatre is not very rational and does not establish communication easily. The characters have a simultaneous presence in time and space but they don’t have a dialogue with other characters, that is to say, they do not communicate with each other naturally in an ordinary sense of the word, as we see it in “The Bold Singer” by Ionesco, in which there is neither a singer nor a bold man present in the play). Dialogue became one of the determining factors in shaping of the plays in the modern theatre; the boundaries of dialogues expanded to the extent that through dialogue with the audience heroes emerged.
