Activities of the Educational Resource and Language Centre
of Walloon Brabant
The Educational Resource and Language Centre of
Walloon Brabant is intended as a place for lifelong
training, as a documentation centre and as a place for
presenting new educational tools.
The Centre has a site in Wavre and a second in
Jodoigne. The Centre is open during normal business
hours. As a result, it is also open during school holidays
and until 6 p.m.
1. A space for train
The Centre in Wavre is equipped with 4 training rooms, which allow presentations of IT tools
and/or digital educational resources:
 the Bamako room is a computer lab equipped with a Promethean interactive
whiteboard
 the Madagascar room is equipped with a ceiling mounted projector and an audio
system
 the Samoa room is a computer lab equipped with a Promethean interactive
whiteboard
 the Acapulco room is equipped with a Smart interactive whiteboard.
Throughout the year, the Centre hosts ongoing training sessions offered to teachers by a
variety of operators.

In 2013, the CRP training facilities hosted 3,140 people during 243 training days, as well
as 165 meetings bringing together 1,300 people.
The Centre’s reputation far exceeds the geographical boundaries of Walloon Brabant. Many
teachers from the Brussels-Capital Region come to train in our Centre, which is also used by
teachers from other Walloon provinces.

2. A place to browse through more than 8,000 school textbooks
In Wavre, one area gives access to more than 8,600 pedagogical tools: school textbooks and
periodicals, digital manuals, educational software, DVDs and CD-ROMs, educational games,
teaching kits … There are resources for all subjects taught in the curriculum of both primary
and secondary education (general, transitional and vocational secondary education). This
abundance of resources is the result of an ongoing collaboration with about fifty publishing

A second area is devoted to books on pedagogics, educational programmes and publications
of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. A third is given over to educational research.

The Centre is equipped with a computer terminal providing access to the document
database and also to educational software presentations.
The Centre also collaborates with the « Centre d’études et de documentations sociales »
(CEDS) (Research and Social Documentation Centre) of the « Direction d’administration des
Affaires sociales » (Directorate for Social Affairs Administration).

3. A place to learn about Europe
In close collaboration with the Europe Direct Walloon Brabant service, the Centre offers its
visitors learning tools on the subject of Europe and the activity of its various institutions.
Brochures, comic strip books, posters, games and folders are stored on a specific display and
can be taken out by teachers, who can also contact a librarian or an educational adviser.

4. Support for the integration of digital technologies in teaching
Teachers seek answers to
technical
and
educational
questions, which they ask
themselves when faced with the
arrival of new technologies in
their schools and classrooms.
The Centre has a computerized
laboratory, where teachers can
learn how they function.
Training rooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards (IWBs). Training in the use of
these tools is offered to teachers and help in developing lesson plans that use these tools.
There are several brands of IWBs available, which gives teachers the opportunity to compare
their features..

Teachers can also try out a number of tablet computer
brands (Apple, Samsung) and learn both how to use
them and how to develop lesson plans, which
incorporate these new tools.
Cooperation agreements were also signed with Casio and
Texas Instruments for calculation software, and with
Promethean and Smart for interactive whiteboards
Training courses in the use of number of educational software packages (proprietary or
Open Source) are also scheduled New partnerships are being negotiated …
5. Support tools for language learning
The Centre in Jodoigne has 3 laboratories for
languages and multimedia computer-based
learning :
 laboratory 1: 5 student stations and 1
teacher console
 laboratory 2: 10 student stations and 1
teacher console
 Laboratory 3: 15 student stations and 1
teacher console.
Several software packages are available to learn Dutch, English, German, Spanish and
“French as a foreign language” (FLE). Teachers deliver their lessons by using previously
installed software programmes. Onsite support can be obtained from a local agent.
This equipment and this service form part of the mission to develop – using the latest
information and communication technologies – awareness, initiation and improvement in
modern, foreign language learning.

7. Web presence
The Centre has a website: www.crpbw.be . This communication tool is vital for the growth of
the Centre's activities and is updated daily.
The website includes a diary of events and a description of all training activities that take
place at the Centre. It allows teachers to register online.
It shows each pedagogical resource of the documentary database, with a very precise
description of its content and graphical appearance. All material is classified by level of
education and by subject taught.
Since 2014, the website has been offering a bank of free digital resources for teachers. This
database, accessible on the site homepage under the heading «Gratuit sur Internet” (Free
on the Internet), provides a number of different resources:



The « Leçons » (Lessons) tab provides comprehensive pedagogical documents, with
lesson notes and a description of the learning sequence progress (with worksheets
sometimes provided for pupils and examples of pupils’ work).
The « Activités » (activities) tab provides information on online banks of exercises (or
other learning activities), that can be given to pupils.
The « Logiciels et services » (software and services) tab presents free software
programmes that are cross-curriculum in nature or are related to specific subjects
(mathematics, among others).

The « Docu » tab provides links to websites containing digital, multidisciplinary and
free pedagogical documentation.
The « Portails et divers » (Portal and miscellaneous) tab provides links to websites
also offering directories of resources and educational tools multi-level teaching and
multi-subject) and also provides links to documents that will assist teachers in making
the best use of digital technologies.

This resource bank will be gradually supplemented by us and by teachers themselves who
will be able to share new digital resources with us via the Centre website. In the longer term,
this resource bank will become, for teachers, a tool for digital resource sharing for teaching.
The website also contains a selection of news and press articles concerning the world of
teaching. Links connect the internet user to the websites of different libraries across the
Province of Walloon Brabant.
Finally, newsletters are sent throughout the course of the year to any teacher, upon request.
These newsletters strengthen the ties between teachers and our activities.
For example, the website was visited in 2013 by 107,066 visitors …
