Surgeon from Lyons who was most important as an educator. He was the founder of the first anatomical
cabinet in Lyons in 1796. He was the head surgeon at the Grand Hôtel-Dieu (1793-1799). In 1800 he became a
member of the Academy at Lyons.
His "Essai sur la médicine du coeur" is a poetical series of reflections on human relations in the medical
profession. His tomb is the oldest at the Loyasse cemetery and a street was named after him in Lyons. His
pupil Antoine Lusterbourg (1775-1851) was buried beside him.
