Rappelons la liste des cours : • Valérie BERTHE (CNRS, Paris Diderot): Substitutions of Pisot type (4 fois 1h30) • Maria Isabel CORTEZ (U. de Santiago, Chile): Full groups in Cantor dynamics (4 fois 1h30) • Vincent DELECROIX (CNRS): Sturmian sequences, interval exchanges, billiards, translation surfaces and teichmuller flows (4 fois 1h30) • Fabien DURAND (U. Picardie Jules Verne): Substitution subshifts and applications (2 fois 1h30) • Ai-Hua FAN (U. Picardie Jules Verne): Dynamics on the Cantor set of p-adic integers (4 fois 1h30) • Alejandro MAASS (U. de Chile, Chile): Dynamics of cellular automata (2 fois 1h30) • Karl PETERSEN (Chapell Hill U., United States): Complexity measures of Cantor dynamics (3 fois 1h30) • Samuel PETITE (U. Picardie Jules Verne): Linearly repetitive tilings (2 fois 1h30) 1 2 2-13 NOVEMBRE 2015 • Mathieu SABLIK (Aix-Marseille U.): Multidimensional subshifts (2 fois 1h30) • Ayse SAHIN (De Paul U., United States): Towers in ergodic theory (4 fois 1h30) • Jorge YAZLLE (UNSa, Argentine): Intiation a Sage (2 fois 1h30) Plusieurs cours ont été donnés en espagnol, à savoir ceux de M. I. Cortez, V. Delacroix, A. Maass, F. Durand et M. Sablik. (1) Did the school meet your expectations? (Level of lectures, quality of the local arrangements, etc.) • Yes it did. The lectures were enjoyable, level of lectures were appropriate. • Yes, it did. The lectures were excellent, both in subject matter and presentation. The organization was also very good. RAPPORT SCIENTIFIQUE ET FINANCIER DE L’ÉCOLE CIMPA CANTOR SALTA 2015: DYNAMICS ON CANTOR SETS 3 • The school has exceeded my expectations. It was noticeable the effort and the care for the details in the local arrangements. Not only the level of the lectures was high, sharing most of the recent research results, but they were self-contained and highly related between them. Lecturers showed their commitment for being clear and exhaustive. • Yes, the school did meet my expectations, both in the level of the lectures and in the quality of the arrangements. • I think lectures were very good. The location of classes (Aula Virtual) was very comfortable and the support with meals and transport was even more than what were promised. I think the hotel was very simple but comfortable at all. Some adjustments in infrastructure, for example, wifi at rooms would be very welcome. • Yes, it was perfectly well organized • High-level conferences given by researchers. Very good organization. An appropriate audience for the event. (2) Do you think the school has been useful for you and your country? If yes, which are the immediate and the expected benefits? If no, why? • Absolutely for me. For Italy in general, I don’t know. • I think it was very useful, the theme was approached from several thematic areas, with which an extensive list of issues to work it and research topic was showed. • Yes, because I‘m beginning to study the subject matter presented in the lectures and already have an on-going research about it, which I hope to be able to publish. • It was useful. For me, I was able to knew different techniques related with my field, and to interact with prominent researchers. One of the short-term benefit is the new possibilities for collaborative research that were opened with this school. • Yes, I think the school has been useful for me and my country. We were able to discuss among ourselves and with people from different countries a variety of interesting questions. I believe this has helped us in getting new ideas or at least places to look into for further developing our research. It also helped us in getting to know each other, thus making future collaborations easier. • Yes, it was very useful for me. Was a great opportunity to learn about a new area of mathematics (for me): Zd actions, group actions. I’ll carry this experience as motivation in for research and new works. • To me at least, I would say yes. The main benefits are that we get to know more about research topics and get in direct contact with the people that work on them, as well as other students that will 4 2-13 NOVEMBRE 2015 potentially work on these and/or related areas. These contacts and knowledge may be useful in the future when it comes to doing research. • Yes, because for me, the school came precisely when needed, since I’m still looking for related topics by which to lean his doctorate in mathematics. The school has allowed me to give a quick overview on the various topics in dynamical systems. Moreover, because teachers explained to us the various open problems that exist and which could interest me. Here in my city it is working very little with discrete dynamics and ergodic theory precisely why I think it will be an opportunity to spread some of these issues and on the investigations being carried out. (3) What did you appreciate the most? • The high level of the lectures. • The most appreciated for me was the friendliness of lecturers. • The high quality presentations and efficient organization. • I appreciate a lot of things: The quality of the lectures, the interaction with renowned researchers, the great working atmosphere, to name a few. • What I appreciated the most was how the lectures were planned as to require the least previous knowledge possible. I also appreciated how the lecturers made great efforts in relating the different courses. • I think that what I most appreciated was the opportunity to meet many experienced teachers/researchers in mathematics. • The lectures, the people, and the ”penas” we all had together. • I could not choose, every exhibition, every exhibitor with their own characteristics, each subject was special. I enjoyed everything. (4) What was the worst part of the school; how could that be fixed in future schools? • The weather ?! :) • I have nothing to comment on this aspect. • I believe it would be best if the lectures lasted one hour only. • If there were something bad, I didn’t notice it. • I believe the amount of courses was more than the ideal. During the second week of the school I started to feel relatively tired and I felt this was a common opinion among the students. I acknowledge it is hard to encompass so many interesting topics in the time span of two RAPPORT SCIENTIFIQUE ET FINANCIER DE L’ÉCOLE CIMPA CANTOR SALTA 2015: DYNAMICS ON CANTOR SETS 5 • • (5) Any • • • • • weeks, but I believe it could have been more advantageous to have less courses, and more time to process the information oneself. Yet, I believe the school was a great one. As I commented above, the hotel would need a little bit more infrastructure. The arranged dinner in the center of city, even with the good public transport, took around 1 hour per day (half to go, half to back). But I know these small mentioned things was the viable offer in the city. In the school itself, there was no one negative point. The connection failure of personal computers with the projector, several times interrupted the sequence of ideas in the exposition. other comments or suggestions? Only my gratitude to the organizers and school principals. The notes made by the lectures were excellent. We can go back for the details and thus understand better the lectures. For some lectures I would have appreciate to have also access to the slides. Some lecturers had even more examples and explanations on their slides. I just would like to thank again the organisers and all the people involved. In particular, me being vegetarian, great efforts were made in assuring that I received food corresponding to my dietary choice. I knew about the school from my advisor. I would like to see more divulgation of the school, for example, official inviting email to mathematics institutes of UNICAMP, USP, PUC, IMPA, UNESP and Federal Universities. Well, there were only three Brazilians in the school, I think many others would appreciate to participate. If it was done, I’m sorry, but I didn’t notice it before. When it comes to the notes, sometimes they did not match the talk all that well, which would have been useful in order to check some details during the talks (when you miss something for example). 3.
