Osteopathy
The use of the title “osteopath” is reserved for people holding a diploma with training in
Osteopathy from an establishment that has been approved by the Minister of Health. The
Accreditation and Evaluation in Health National Agency is responsible for practise guidelines. The
guidelines establish a list of good practises, which are taught in approved training facilities. In order
to practise, practitioners must register with the state representative who will record their diplomas,
certificates, titles or licenses.
Statutes/Regulations:
The law concerning the osteopathy was modified in 2009. This law specifies that the duration of the
studies minimum cannot be lower than 3520 hours of training. In 2010, the Council of State
confirmed by judgment on 30th September that the law of 4th March 2002 concerns only
osteopaths trained in Minister of Health approved educational institutions. The sharing of the title
is eliminated and only osteopaths are authorized to use the title.

« L’usage professionnel du Titre d’ostéopathe ou de chiropracteur est réservé aux personnes
titulaires d’un diplôme sanctionnant une formation spécifique à l’ostéopathie ou à la chiropraxie
délivrée par un établissement de formation agréé par le Ministre chargé de la Santé dans des
conditions fixées par décret. Le programme et la durée des études préparatoires qui doivent être au
minimum de 3520 heures et des épreuves après lesquelles peut être délivré ce diplôme sont fixés par
voie réglementaire. »
“The professional usage of the Title of osteopath or chiropractor is reserved for the persons holding
of a diploma sanctioning a specific training in the osteopathy or in the chiropractic delivered by an
establishment approved by the Minister of Health and social security in conditions fixed by decree.
The program and the duration of the preparatory studies which have to be at least of 3520 hours
and tests after which this diploma can be delivered are fixed by statutory way.”
