DESCRIPTION DU STAGE
Domaine d’étude :
Comportement mécanique des matériaux
Type de stage
Fin d’études bac+5
Master 2 recherche
Bac+2 à bac+4
Intitulé : Study and characterization of contact, friction, heating and abrasion phenomena for
metallic and organic matrix composite materials
Sujet :
Aviation is one of the safest public transport means today. To reach such a performance, aircraft safety
mainly relies on experience feedback and a set of constantly evolving rules which concern the flying
products and operations. In the course of events which punctuate the aeronautics history, aircraft
certification rules progressively improved. This is especially the case in the field of crash and survivability,
which is identified as a specific topic for instance in the European CS 25 (large civil aircraft) document. This
regulation is in constant evolution. A consortium of French aircraft manufacturers proposed in 2013 to the
French CORAC organization (Council for Civil Aviation Research) to introduce a transverse “Crash and
Survivability” theme in its roadmap. Several research subjects of transversal interest for the different
French aircraft and rotorcraft manufacturers have been identified to increase their capability to better
understand, analyze and improve aircraft resistance in crash situations (PHYSAFE project).
Part of the research aims at experimentally studying and characterizing various phenomena which may
have a noticeable influence on aircraft passengers safety in case of crash. Among these experimental
studies, the development of test means and facilities to characterize the dynamic abrasion behavior of
aircraft primary structure materials once in contact with the ground was selected as being of common
interest for aircraft and rotorcraft airframes.
The proposed internship is proposed to prepare a PhD work (that would start in october 2017) that will
focus on the study and characterization of contact, friction, heating and abrasion phenomena for metallic
and organic matrix composite materials (reference materials : Aluminum, T700/M21) in aircraft crash
situations. The internship will consist in performing a bibliographic review to better formulate the abrasion
problem, to establish very preliminary principles and specifications of such an experimental protocol (test
bench, specimens, instrumentation, etc) dedicated to the study of dynamic abrasion of materials in
representative conditions.
