Set comprising two armchairs and a sofa made of rosewood. Arched and rounded backrests curving along the lines of
the hectic armrests. Unique and unpublished models created for the villa of an important Industrial buisinessman, Robert
Chevalier.

HISTORIQUE
« En 1927, Robert Chevalier, industriel du textile, marié à Geneviève Gallé, la quatrième fille du verrier Émile Gallé,
commande à Jean-Michel Frank la décoration d'une importante maison à Épinal. Pour la première fois, Frank est
confronté à l'aménagement d'une maison neuve où il doit collaborer avec un architecte et différents corps de métiers,
notamment le jeune ferronnier Jean Prouvé, filleul de Madame Chevalier. Les vues de ses premiers décors, semblent
indiquer que Jean-Michel Frank œuvre essentiellement comme ensemblier. Ce chantier lui permet de se concentrer sur
l'étude du mobilier et de créer de nouveaux modèles. Parmi les meubles nouveaux, on remarque des fauteuils inédits
aux dossiers et aux accotoirs en doucine. »
« In 1927, Robert Chevalier who was a leading textile manufacturer married to Geneviève Gallé (fourth daughter of the
master glassmaker Emile Gallé), comissionned Jean-Michel Franck to decorate a mansion in Epinal. For the first time,
Franck must deal with coordinating the individual trades in this full construction. What could have been a complex and
strenuous work is greatly facilitated by his collaboration with the ironworker Jean Prouvé, godson of Madame Chevalier.
Frank's first sets suggest he primarly plied his trade as an interiror designer - ensemblier. These unprecedented
armchairs with armrests and backrests in ogee are his most beautiful new pieces. »
