Conference at the Franco-Japanese House in Tokyo (Journée Francophone de la Recherche 2014) (2014/11/21) Subject: French Research Network in Japan Location: Franco-Japanese House(日仏会館), Tokyo, Japan French researchers working in Japan celebrated their achievements and activities of 2014 during a one-day conference at the Franco-Japanese House in Tokyo. The participants included researchers from the universities of Tokyo, Tsukuba, Kyoto and other leading academics from the ‘Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique’ (フラン ス国立科学研究センター ). In addition, professional researchers from L’Oréal, Orange (telecommunication network), Google and Rakuten came to share their experience of working in Japan. To conclude this stimulating event, Prof. Yuko Harayama (Légion d’honneur レジョオンドナール勲章) gave a lecture raising the question: “How Can Japan Become Attractive to French Researchers?” Her lecture concluded on the needs for Japanese companies and academic institutions to follow the lead of the like of Rakuten and Tohoku IRIDeS of Tohoku University. Among the speakers, Sébastien Penmellen Boret of IRIDeS (Disaster Information, Management and Public Collaboration Division) contributed with his first lecture in French on ‘The Role of Memory and Mourning within the Social Reconstruction of Disaster Communities: Lessons from Japan and Indonesia’ (Le rôle de la mémoire et du deuil dans la reconstruction sociale des communautés sinistrées. Leçons venues du Japon et d’Indonésie). In addition to discuss his activities at IRIDeS, Sébastien postulated as vicepresident of the French research network (Scienscope) and will co-organise the ‘2015 Conference at the Franco-Japanese House’.
