Quelles sont les limites et les risques de ce test génétique? 1. Dans certains cas, le test pourrait ne pas identifier une anomalie même si une anomalie génétique existe. Ceci pourrait être attribuable aux limites des connaissances actuelles sur la structure complète d’un gène ou au fait que certains types d’anomalies génétiques qui causent un cancer héréditaire spécifique n’ont pas encore été identifiées. Dans d’autres cas, ce pourrait être parce que la méthode de test actuelle n’est pas en mesure d’identifier tous les types de changements génétiques (par exemple les translocations ou inversions équilibrées) qui causent un cancer héréditaire spécifique, ou que certaines anomalies sont présentes dans une fraction si petite des cellules qu’elles ne sont pas détectables (mosaïcisme). 2. Par exemple, la non-paternité signifie que le père identifié d’un individu n’est pas son véritable père biologique. Il est possible que ce test détecte la non-paternité, et il peut être nécessaire de communiquer cette découverte à l’individu qui a demandé le test. 4. Vous pourriez vous inquiéter de la discrimination basée sur les résultats des tests génétiques. Le gouvernement américain a adopté une loi contre la discrimination génétique (Genetic Nondiscrimination Act, ou GINA) en 2008 pour interdire ce type de discrimination par les assureurs du secteur de la santé et les employeurs.
