En 2005, l’Alliance Française a pris la décision stratégique de se concentrer
VXU O¶LGHQWL¿FDWLRQ OH GpYHORSSHPHQW HW OD SURPRWLRQ G¶XQH PXVLTXH NHQ\DQH
contemporaine unique et a lancé le programme Spotlight on Kenyan Music. Dix
ans plus tard, ce programme a permis la production de 6 compilations de Spotlight
on Kenyan Music ainsi que d’un digipack intitulé ‘Weapon of Mass Reconciliation’
$UPH GH UpFRQFLOLDWLRQ PDVVLYH XWLOLVDQW OD PXVLTXH D¿Q GH SURPRXYRLU µO¶XQLWp
dans la diversité’ au lendemain de la crise post-électorale en 2007/2008.
Depuis son lancement, le programme a atteint près de 1000 musiciens des quatre
coins du pays et presque 100 artistes ont participé aux Volumes 1 à 6 de la série
Spotlight on Kenyan Music.
Le projet se veut une découverte de la diversité musicale du Kenya, née du
FURLVHPHQWHQWUHODPXVLTXHPRGHUQHHWFRQWHPSRUDLQHHWOHVLQÀXHQFHVORFDOHV
Cette initiative, unique dans la région, a régulièrement développé, exposé et promu
les traditions musicales comme ressources pour l’innovation et la créativité. Sa
grande longévité n’aurait été possible sans le soutien sans faille de la coopération
culturelle française au Kenya et de Total Kenya Ltd, du Ministère des sports, de la
culture et des arts et le partenariat avec Ketebul Music.

Cet événement coïncidera avec le 60ème anniversaire de l’implantation de Total au
Kenya.
Deux après-midi de concerts avec les artistes de Spotlights dont Makadem, Nyota
Ndogo, Juma Tutu, Gargar, Bado, Sauti Sol, Walter Koga, Mohamed Guyo, Abdi
Jero, Mutinda, Lelele Africa, Mzee Mwatela, Ontiri et Chepchumba viendront
célébrer cette étape importante, véritable plateforme pour le développement d’une
musique kenyane à l’identité unique qui est reconnaissable sur la scène musicale

société actuelle de Zanzibar, ces portraits dévoilent des femmes prises en étau entre leur volonté
d’action, d’éducation et d’engagement dans le monde politique, et la pression ressentie au quotidien
