Press text: English «Préludes & Fugues» is both an exploration of «The Well-Tempered Clavier» by Johann Sebastian Bach and an argument for synergy between choreography and music. Emanuel Gat is convinced Åsthat dance has, for the most part, the same qualities, especially the nonverbal ones, as music does. In the same way that the music’s abstract forms resonate deeply within our selves, dance uses constant movement to reveal the process of creation».The dancers in «Préludes & Fugues» seem to be playing their own score – accompanied by piano and silence, they recreate, for the audience, the sensation of watching a street from a window. The piece leaves it up to the viewers to interpret these everyday moments as they see it. «Préludes & Fugues» was recently nominated for the coveted Bessie Award for Outstanding Production in New York. Biography Under the direction of Philippe Cohen, the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève has added a new generation of choreographers – to whom he has given carte blanche – into its list of collaborators, including Andonis Foniadakis, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Gilles Jobin and Benjamin Millepied. He also continues to enrich that list with established names, including Carolyn Carlson, Lucinda Childs, Jérôme Robbins, Saburo Teshigawara and Nacho Duato. The Israeli Emanuel Gat discovered dance through the choreographer Nir Ben Gal, before working with the Liat Dror Nir Ben Gal Company and beginning to create his own choreographic work. He has created numerous pieces, doing choreography and sometimes also music for both of them. He received a grant from the Ballet Master Albert Gaubier Fund, which was followed by the Rosenblum Award for scenic arts and the Landau Award. In 2004, he founded his own dance company, Emanuel Gat Dance, which was singled out by the Israeli Ministry of Culture one year later. Since then, the company has created six pieces, and presented them on a world tour. In 2007, Emanual Gat established his company at Istres (France) and created «Silent Ballet», as well as two productions for l’Opéra de Paris and the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève.
