INTRODUCTION
It has been over a year since we last released any kind of update.
Once again, the original intention with v7.0 was really just v6.0 updated to 4.12.1 but it
never seems to pan out quite like that and there is substantial new content as well as a lot
of updates and improvements.
Much is 'qualitative' rather than 'quantitative' though and the primary intention has been to
improve the quality of what we have rather than to add new content. We also took this
opportunity to rationalise and remove duplication where it was possible.
So much has been updated, improved and changed that it became no longer feasible to
do this version as a simple update; it had to be released as a completely new all-in-one
installation.
In the following text, features added from HSFX v7 will be printed in green, and
subtractions in red. Contributor names are listed in italics.
2
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
The installation procedure remains the same as for HSFX v6. There are two installation
methods:
i.
Install over an old installation of HSFX after updating IL-2 1946 to 4.12.1.
a. Disable everything with jsgme first.
b. Update il2 to 4.12.1
c. The new installer will remove your Files/Mods & JSGME mods folders so back these up first
if you want to retain anything in those.
d. Make sure that you have all 3 parts of the hsfx 7.0 installer (10 files) in the same place on
your computer.
e. Point the installer at your il2 root folder and run the installer
f. Open jsgme.exe and enable HSFX history mod
g. Run game
ii.
Install over a new clean copy of IL-2 1946 updated to 4.12.
a. Make sure that you have all 3 parts of the hsfx 7.0 installer (10 files) in the same place on
your computer.
b. Point the installer at your il2 root folder and run the installer
c. Open jsgme.exe and enable HSFX history mod
d. Run game
We include the Direst2Drive patch now by default so it does not matter if you are installing this over
a Direct2Drive or Steam version. All the necessary files are included.

FEATURES
-------------------------------This is not a complete readme in itself and only lists the major changes, updates and
alterations from HSFX v6.0.
--------------------------------
3.1 Core Features
Most of the features that we have become accustomed to in v6.0 have been retained,
although they have been altered to co-exist with TD v4.12.1 and in all cases should work
the same way, with the following exceptions:
Bomb Bay Door Mod (Fireball)
We have removed the Bombay door code as this is now integral to the stock game. But we
have retained the Fuel Dump and independent Gear and Hook options because this is
useful for those that use external peripherals.
Engine class
Added missing parameters for some of the late Spitfires.
Transonic functions & G-Suit functionality:The new mach Drag parameter in TD v4.12 go just far enough to do what was required for
the jets that we include so we didn't need the Transonic functions.
We have retained SAS~Storebror and Anto's G-Suits for the US jets used in Korea from
1950 onwards though.
Nightime environment
Ivan's modified night-time environment remains.
Ship Damage Logging, SEOW Radar, Wingtip Smoke Logging, SEOW Chiefs Output
Retains the first three staples of SEOW. In addition this time we have added a new function
so that if a mission is a SEOW mission, the server will write the positions of all chief objects
at mission end into a new folder that is created called SEOW. The mission transferring bug
fix is also now integral to the above.
Squog's SEOW track recording & console cheat fix
This only applies to SEOW missions.
3.2
3.2.1
Aircraft Changes
REMOVED Aircraft
We unfortunately had to remove aircraft again because we actually hit a hard limit while
we were putting this version together. There are performance problems if you have too
many aircraft in IL-2. Fortunately new methods are now available in most cases for
achieving similar functionality without requiring new slot aircraft.
5
This will require a degree of mission revision for missions that used these old aircraft. We
try as much as possible to retain backward compatibility but in this case we had to delete
some airframes. We are sorry if it invalidates some old missions, a quick revision should
get them to similar state though because although we have removed aircraft I think you will
see we haven’t really lost anything.
Below is a list of these (and usually the reason for removal):
air.B_17GMOD
Expanded loadouts added to the Stock G in expert mode (+ also to the E & F).
air.C_47B
Just a duplicate by this point.
air.B_24J
Expanded loadouts added to stock B_24J100 in expert mode.
air.B_25J15
Between J1 & J25 this was the least utilitarian.
air.H75MO4
Stock P36A4 in TD v4.12 now does everything that this did.
air.HurricaneMkIIbMod_DZZ
Expanded loadouts added to the stock HurricaneMKIIbMod in expert mode.
air.I_16TYPE28
Between Type 27 & Type 29 this was the least utilitarian.
air.P_38G10LO
Least utilitarian of the G Lo's.
air.P_38J15LO
Least utilitarian of the J Lo's.
air.SPITFIRE16ECLP
Still leaves us with a clipped and standard wing version of the Mk.XVI and only the high
octane variants were used by this stage of the war.
air.TEMPEST511LBS
No different to the stock Tempest V which now has additional 2x 500lb loadout in expert
mode.
air.G4M1_Type1
Modified FM used in expert mode removes need for duplicate.
air.BF_109F6
This recon variant never made it beyond the drawing board.
air.BF_109K14
Hypothetical and already have the K6 (which was also but almost made it into the war).
air.J2M3_21
6
Stock version now has opening canopy in expert mode.
air.J2M5_33
Stock version now has opening canopy in expert mode.
air.N1K2JA_21a
Does not add 3d and uses stock FM. Not worth it for the loadout changes.
17 aircraft removed in total.

Note for Claymore's Fw190's
Add the following parameters at the bottom of your Conf.ini :[Mods]
SmokeEffect = 1 (with smoke) 0 (without)
This enables realistic engine smoke when the 190's are flown at very high revs.

10
3.3.1
Known Issues
 Nose gunner for DB-3T not functional.
 Swordfish rear gunner arcs are not correct until an enemy aircraft gets within range, when
the gun elevates automatically. You can override this using the airbrake key.
3.4 Flight Model Changes
For full documentation see 'FM documentation V7.0 Aachen.doc' that is placed in the
HSFX V7 Tools & Readme's folder in the root of il2 automatically by the installer.
Aachen has done a lot of work over the past year. Many of these alterations only apply to
expert mode of course because we staunchly retain our policy of not touching player
flyables FM's in stock mode.
FM Revision Record 7.0

The following changes during the early patches using the auto-updater have been carried
11
forward.
FM Revision Record 6.0.15
 DB600 Engines:
 Reduction of baseline power for DB601N for late Bf109E4 and late Bf109E7 variants
 Created new reference engine for Bf109F2
 restored coolant and oil overheat temperature thresholds as per patch 4.11.1
 Rolls-Royce Merlin Engines:
 correction for Merlin III at 6lbs and 12 lbs boost for Hurricane MkI/MkI 12lb and Spitfire
MkI and MkII.
 Corrected also Hurricane MkI early engine (fixed pitch propeller added - exceeding
3600 rpm will result in rapid engine failure)
 Fiat Radial A74 Engines:
 restored coolant and oil overheat temperature threshold as per patch 4.11.1
 Wright Cyclone Engine:
 partially corrected manifold pressure vs rpms curves for 1820-97 (B-17 and B-24

FM Revision Record 6.0.13
 To correct the Macchi's instability and flap spin problem. I have also extended it to the G55
and trimmed the MC200 and the G50.
 Approximately 20 HP power reduction for the DB600 for Emil and Friedrich engines.
FM Revision Record 6.0.12
 Modified rudder area for 109 G6 Tall Tail.
 Slight reduction of DB605 engines (from 1295 to 1260 hp) and slight reduction of 0.01 of
compressor multiplier for DB605 engines (reduction of approx. 10 kph maximum speed of
Gustavs).
 Revised clipping for F4U clipped version.
 Modified compressor parameters for the P&W2800-8W for the F4U.
 Revised overheat for Fiat G50.
 RPM, Boost and compression altered for B17's, B24, B29 to more accurate values.
Note:- The Heavy Bombers require more re-alistic takeoff and landing conditions
than the simplified ai fm's of the stock game.
They require big fields and if they have full heavy loadouts, reduced fuel, or ai
and human pilots will get into trouble.
The new taxi to takeoff routines in 4.12.1 can help with this because it gives each
aircraft the benefit of the full length of the runway.
The B24 is probably the most effected by this with its high wing loading.
So
again, choose a long airfield and reduce fuel quantity the heavier the loadout.

Flak18_88mm_ATG
Anti-tank gun version of 88mm flak gun
You have to assemble the Flak Tower in the FMB. The tower base is Object 3536. The gun and
radar nacelles are Artillery or Stationary Objects that slot onto the corners of the Tower base.
3.6.2.4
Barrage Artillery
We have added a new form of artillery available under the Rocketry menu. You plot these guns in
the same way as you would a V1 or V2 Rocket (using a target Set point in FMB).
These artillery pieces have a minimum range. If you plot a fire plan with a range less than the
minimum then they won't fire. (Use the standard Artillery versions in this case).
Rocket Launchers > 3000 m
Howitzers > 4000 m
SPGs > 3000-4000 m
As they are constructed using the IL-2 Rocketry class, they have no maximum range, so it’s the
mission builder’s responsibility to build a mission realistically.
Historically, rocket launchers could fire to about 7000 m. Howitzers usually could fire to between
9000 -15000 m, depending upon calibre and muzzle velocity.
Within the SEOW system the ranges are defined so that this is taken care of. Now in SEOW
commanders can order artillery fire on specific areas as part of the planning routine. The new
barrage pieces added in HSFX v7 are
Hummel

BB Sevastapol
By Asheshouse
The ship model (and java referenced) is actually the Marat (sister ship of Sevastapol). This
adds a new uniquely named ship but only of the moving type just with a couple of lines of
text in the ini's. For a Stationary version you have to use the Marat. A method discovered by
Asheshouse.
3.7.3
HSFX Multi-turret ships
In 'Expert' mode only, ships with turrets with multiple guns now also have multiple fire hooks. So for
example, a triple turret will actually fire three times from individual barrels.
The corresponding Rate of Fire parameter of all guns has also been tripled (so it tends to reduce
the load, as many turrets are double or single). This reflects capital ship fire-power much more
directly in the game and creates more historical results in surface engagements.
Destroyers and cruisers get the most relative benefit from this. Battleships are more accurately
represented relative to each other also.
If you feel like testing this out I suggest setting up an engagement between some IJN and US
15
Destroyers, and watching the action in stock and then HSFX 'Expert' mode.
3.8
Command & Control
Command & Control features developed by CY6 are problematic under 4.12 and we have not had
time to work through it all and see if it’s possible to get it working again. This is a great shame. We
decided that it made sense to release HSFX now though and hope that perhaps CY6 may revise
his work, or if not, we may be able to work through some of it and release a jsgme TD v4.12compatible option sometime after this release.
3.9
New or Improved Maps
There are many different ways of utilising Il-2, from simple QMB dogfights to the complexities of
online campaigns and wars. Mod maps are often constructed with only one type of use in mind,
e.g. online dogfights, rather than also for the offline campaigns or squad co-ops.
All of the alterations I have made to the maps in HSFX, apart from correcting the relatively few
genuine errors, are an attempt to make the maps useful to all, especially the single player and
SEOW online community. If it has been possible to make the maps more historically correct then I
have tried to do so.
Please don't think that any of the map changes in HSFX are meant as a criticism of the great work
that all of the map creators have done, for free, and that is a benefit to us all.
The maps in the FMB are now arranged in geographical/campaign areas, i.e. Eastern Front,
Pacific etc. This is possible due to a mod by Benitomusso - many thanks to him.
Note: if you click on the Map Area/ Campaign heading name, e.g. ***Western Front*** then the
FMB will report a missing [MAP_2D]. Don't worry; this is due to how we've labelled the headings.
Simply go back and click on a map name to open it and all will be fine.
Cheers, 242Sqn_Cat.

 Removed rail bridges over roads. These don't work, the vehicles drive around instead of
under.
 Replaced 'object' bridges with working ones where possible.
 Adjusted Taxi & Parking points to prevent AI aircraft disappearing on landing.
 Adjusted height near some airfields to allow aircraft to land using 'Default' landing pattern.
 Removed the fictitious oil refineries in North Borneo. (Sorry - personal taste caused by
historical outlook.)
Slovakia 1955 (Indy)
This map falls outside of the time period that HSFX likes to represent, however, as the base map is
already in the game it seems pointless to omit it altogether. Instead, it has been added as a
JSGME option. If you wish to have a bit of Cold War action then enable it as you would any other
JSGME mod.

Svalbard (Lynx23)
 Added seaplane runways at all settlements and Bjornoya island.
 Made all land runways bi-directional. Note: You may have to choose a landing pattern other
than Default for some approaches. Those mountains are rather close!
 Removed Blank Plates and used Zuti's Friction Mod for airfields.
Set the following map parameters
DECLIN to 78
PRESSURE to 759

WestFront Series (Ash)(Gilb57)

'Ghent' and 'River Rhine'.
 Changed 'Budsweilerhof' airfield to 'Butzweilerhof'.
 Updated to Gilbs latest version. See WestFront39-45-readme220.rtf in the HSFX tools &
