Green Pary response, New Brunswick
The Green Party would enact legislation to cancel the licenses for the exploration of shale gas
and terminate the leases to extract shale gas. Given this, the other questions don't seem relevant,
but if you want answers to those, let me know.

Subject: RE: Request for NB Green party position on shale gas
Thanks for the quick response David.
A couple of questions for clarification, I suppose:
1. This position you stated below is unconditional? So if you were elected to government, this
would happen as soon as possible?
2. Do you have any job creation analysis? This seems to be a common theme in discussions
around the election...
3. We would still like to know your plan for dealing with waste and formation waters that
already exist in the province, or waters created between now and the cancelling of licenses and
leases.
Thanks again,
Angela

HI Angela:

Re: Request for NB Green party position on shale gas
Hi Angela,
Just a couple things maybe to add.
Re: job creation: The NB Green Party has a very comprehensive job creation program
that involves jobs for the new century, not the old one. Why hitch our star to a sunset
industry, and build huge infrastructure projects for the oil and gas industry that is on the
way out, when we can build energy projects that don’t increase greenhouse gas
production? We have biomass in New Brunswick; this can be used to heat NB homes,
businesses and schools. This industry would produce more jobs, for ever, in a
sustainably managed forest.
The hunger for food grown locally is a great job creator: We have the land base to grow
a lot of our own food here in New Brunswick, process it, and deliver it with a fraction of
the energy used currently, where food travels on average 4,000 kms from farm to plate.
Imagine fresh food for the ill in hospital instead of the over-processed and over-cooked
plates they now receive, trucked in from Ontario. Imagine the difference we could make
to the children getting fresh local food in their lunches at school. It can be imagined, and
it can be realized. We need to use our natural resources of clean water, clean air, and
clean soil to provide a really better life for all.
Kind regards,
Emma
