Customers who short circuit the +5 V auxiliary power pins on National Instruments hardware devices for more
than 1,000 hours may cause damage to the device and chassis. Many NI products produced since 1997 use a
self-resetting fuse to provide protection in the case of an inadvertent short circuit of-i-5 V auxiliary power lines.
However, short circuits of greater than 1,000 hours may damage the fuse and result in device damage, arcing,
and flame.
Prolonged short circuits could be caused by the following:
•
Shorting of -i-5V pins to ground (GND) on custom lest fixtures
•
Incorrect wiring connections on a terminal block or accessory
•
Bent -t-5V pin or ground (GND) pin on a connector
Please be aware that unintentional short circuits are not obvious if the -i-5 V auxiliary power is not used. If a short
circuit causes the resettable fuse to activate, there is no immediate change in device performance.
As a safety precaution, NI strongly recommends tiiat you checic your -i-SV connections on ail currently
installed NI products to ensure tliat you have not created a short circuit between +5 V auxiliary power and
the ground (GND) pins or any other ground connection.

Note The enclosed product has been manufactured with a traditional fuse to eliminate the
possibility of device damage as a result of extended short circuit conditions. With the use of a
traditional fuse, unintentional shorting of-i-5V to GND will cause the fuse to open. Ifthis occurs,
you will need to return the device to National Instruments for repair.

L^s clients qui mettent en court-circuit des broches d'alimentation auxiliaire -1-5 V du materiel National
Instruments pour une periode de plus de 1 000 heures risquent d'endommager le p6riph6rique et le chassis. De
nombreux produits NI fabriques depuis 1997 utilisent un fusible & r^enclenchement automatique pour fournir une
protection en cas de court-circuit accidentel des lignes d'alimentation auxiliaire de +5 V. Toutefois, des
courts-circuits excedant 1 000 heures peuvent entrainer une panne du fusible, endommager le peripherique et
provoquer un arc eiectrique et des flammes.
Des courts-circuits d'une dur^e prolong^e peuvent etre causes par les situations suivantes :
•
Mise en court-circuit de broches +5 V avec des broches de masse (GND) sur des montages de test
•
Connexions incorrectes de cables sur un homier ou un accessoire de connexion
•
Broche +5 V ou broche de masse tordue sur un connecteur
Veuillez noterque les courts-circuits accidentels ne sont pas evidents lorsque I'alimentation auxiliaire de +5 V
n'est pas utilisee. Lorsqu'un court-circuit provoque I'activation du fusible a reenclenchement automatique, les
performances du materiel ne sont pas immediatement affectees.
Pour votre seeurite, National Instruments vous reeommande vivement de verifier les connexions -i-5 V de
tous vos produits NI pour vous assurer que vous n'avez pas cree de courts-circuits entre des broches
d'alimentation auxiliaire +5 V et des broches de masse (GND) ou toute autre connexion a la masse.

Remarque Le produit ci-joint a ete fabriqu^ avec un fusible traditionnel afin d'eviter les risques de
dommages du peripherique qui resulteraient de mises en court-circuit prolongees. Lorsqu'un fusible
traditionnel est utilise, un court-circuit accidentel entre des broches de -i-5 V et des broches GND
provoque I'ouverture du fusible. Si cela se produit, vous devez renvoyer le peripherique a National
Instruments pour le faire reparer.

Wenn bei Modulen von National Instruments die 5-Volt-Stromversorgungskontakte mehr als 1000 Stunden
kurzgeschlossen werden, kann es zu Sehaden am Modul und dazugehorigen Chassis kommen. Viele seit 1997
produzierte Gerate von National Instruments sind mit selbstriickstellenden Sicherungen ausgestattet, die bei einem
versehentlichen Kurzschluss der Stromversorgungskontakte ausgelost werden. Ab einer Kurzschlussdauer von
l(KX) Stunden kann die Sicherung jedoch versagen, was mogliche Sehaden am Gerat (z. B. Defekte durch
Lichtbogen- oder Flammenbildung) nach sich zieht.
Kurzschlusse konnen folgende Ursachen haben:
•
Verbindung zwischen -I-5V und Masse (GND) in angeschlossenen Schaltungen
•
Fehlerhafte Verbindungen an Anschlussblock oder Zubehcir
•
Verbogene Kontakte (-I-5V oder GND)
Denken Sie daran, dass Kurzschlusse bei ungenutztem 5-Volt-Anschluss moglicherweise bisher unentdeckt
geblieben sind. Beim Auslosen der Sicherung durch einen Kurzschluss ist keine unmittelbare Auswirkung auf die
Funktion des Gerats ersichtlich.
Es wird daher dringend empfohlen, alle in Verwendung befindlichen Gerate von National Instruments auf
Kurzschlusse mit dem Massekontakt zu untersuchen.

Hinweis Das beiliegende Gerat enthalt eine traditionelle Sicherung. Dadurch kann ein eventueller
Kurzschluss zwischen -i-5V und GND zuverlassig erkannt werden, da sich die Sicherung nicht automatisch zuruckstellt. Bei einem Kurz.schluss muss das Gerat zur Reparatur an National Instruments
eingesandt werden.
