A refined plan
The main purpose of the new research centre in Oran, Algeria's second largest city, is to
support research into the processing of oil
and natural gas. The aim is to increase the
proportion of refined oil and natural gas products in comparison with the raw materials
produced in Algeria. The owner of the research centre is "Sonatrach Aval", a stateowned oil and natural gas company which is
the largest business of its kind in Africa.
The technologically sophisticated centre houses extensive laboratory facilities and pilot
plants for all areas of petrochemical research. It also includes offices, areas for general communications and lounges, and an
auditorium seating 300 people as well as a
cafeteria and an extensive computer centre.
In addition to the application of technical
know-how, communication was the key success factor in this project: KREBS+KIEFER
managed and coordinated the technical and
personal cooperation between the Algerian
owner Sonatrach, the Egyptian general
contractor Orascom, the French project managers IFP and the German planning team.
