(special issue of RTS)

Objectives
Timetable
There is an increasing interest in considering pedestrians in
urban public spaces, as the topic has been forgotten in the
past when the attention has been given first to cars, then to
public transport and — in some cases — to cyclists.
The attention to pedestrian movement in towns is also
driven by the rediscovery of the town “by slow motion”.
Many municipalities want to integrate pedestrians in the
public space design at any scale and type of urban environment. Therefore it is useful to gather in the same RTS issue
different theoretical reflections coming from field tests,
researches that can be proposed from different disciplines
as well as from multidisciplinary approaches.

Le piéton et l’espace public

Objectifs
La place du piéton dans l’espace public redevient une préoccupation importante, après avoir été trop longtemps négligée, du fait de l’attention trop longtemps portée à la

circulation automobile, puis au transport public et dans
certains cas au vélo.
Cette attention au mouvement du piéton dans la ville ne
porte pas seulement sur un mode de déplacement, mais
constitue surtout la condition nécessaire de la redécouverte
de la ville lente parcourue au rythme de la marche à pied.
Nombreuses sont les municipalités qui veulent réintégrer
le piéton dans la conception de leurs espaces publics sans
limitation d’échelles ou de nature de tissus urbains. Il est
donc utile, au-delà des expériences de terrain, de rassembler
en un même numéro de RTS les différentes réflexions théoriques qui surgissent de ces pratiques, réflexions pouvant
être propres à différentes disciplines se trouvant ainsi
mobilisées, mais aussi pouvant résulter de confrontations
pluridisciplinaires.
